Title: I am officially a crazy cat lady
Post by: Susanne (urbantigers) on February 25, 2010, 11:22:00 AM
I have just chosen my new carpet based on the fact that worlds best cat litter won't show up too badly on it  :shify:   I was humming and haahing between the green colour that I had down before or going for a more neutral beige.  I decided on the latter because litter tracking will show up less on the one I've chosen

Not crazy at all, perfectly logical to my mind  ;D

But then I'm a crazy cat lady too  ;)

Ooo I never thought of that for when choosing carpets. That stuff does track pretty badly especially on mauve and blue (different areas - and I didn't choose them!) carpets.

You may well laugh Rob but I would never mix wool carpet with cats again . We wasted a fortune on cream wool carpets that were trashed by cats. Even our new wool rug in the dining room is taking a battering. When it was forst put down at xmas, Willow peed on it. Clapton followed suit and also started pooing on it. I put another tray out that he has started using but only this morning he threw up in 2 different places. It is a really thick pile so no sure our shapooer will even work on it. It will have to be hard floors or polypropylene going forward  :evillaugh:

I'm glad you are a crazy cat lady. Picking the carpet to match cat litter is way better than what I heard down the cat shelter the other day. A woman came in one week to hand in her cat to get it rehomed. A few weeks later she came back trying to adopt a cat, saying this one will go with my new décor better than the old one. Needless to say they sent her away with a flea in her ear and put her on the "Never re-home anything to this lady" list.

Noah especially likes to eat raw meat on my lovely cream and pale gold rug AND it's with ground in cat litter.  :tired: I put it away this week when raw feeding Noah, so he's relocated to the hall carpet (which is to be replaced with laminate anyway). Clearly Noah does not like to eat anywhere his little paws get cold.

Well this conversation's interesting to me 'cos we'll be getting a new carpet shortly and I've been meaning to ask which is the best colour to get, which will keep cleanest with kitties about I'd like to to know it's between beiges or darker shades of brown mmm... that is the question  :um:

I say go for a random speckled pattern. That won't show up fluff, litter or anything else hehehe

I think you're right there, we've always gone for patterned in lounge and halls for that reason though  but I prefer plain so I think something speckledy is sort of inbetween  ;)

There were two creamy/beige ones and I did like the lighter one but knew that would be a disaster with cats.  The darker one is speckledy pattern if you know what I mean, but none of the fibres are pale enough to be a huge problem.  But the worlds best will blend in a bit more than on the one I had previously.  It is also durable and stain resistant and all that gubbins.  Jaffa will inevitably be sick on it before long and Mosi will  bring up a furball.  I prefer plain carpets to patterned but some plain ones are plainer than others if that makes sense!

Yep definitely, our bedroom ones are like that they are plain but not plain  :)
