Hi, I havent posted here in a long time.
My beautiful Eva (the Diva) is currently at the Royal Dick Vet School in Edinburgh, she has the conditions in the title.
She is 5 and a half years old, so just a baby really. She has always been a grumbly puss, not the easiest to handle, by no means a lap cat and for years she has pooped on the floor rather than a litter box, she has also had a weight issue and on ocasion had a runny bottom.
Now all of these things were always put down by vets and behaviorists as behavior issues. Over the last few weeks she has and still is very seriously ill. I am in no way blaming any one for what has happened but just wanted to make people aware that if they should ever come across a cat with similar "behaviour issues" to seriously pursue underlying and often difficult to diagnose issues such as pancreatitis and IBS. These are the possible reasons my girl is so seriously ill now, they havent as yet been diagnosed as we are trying very hard to get her liver and gallbladder functioning again first but they are the most likely causes.
As i mentioned earlier, Eva never liked being handled, probably because she was uncomfortable and possibly in pain. Eva had occasions of a runny tum, always put down to her being stressy. Eva mostly pooped on the floor rather than in a litter box, probably associating the litter box with the pain and discomfort of pooping, Eva had a weight issue and has never been particularly active so the weight issue has been a constant battle, probably not active due to the pain and discomfort making her a prime candidate for HL.
She is in a critical condition but has made some improvements and I am hopeful that she will recover but it is going to be a long haul and is already very costly in terms of stress, worry and finances. As long as she keeps fighting, so will I. Please NEVER take anything for granted and simply accept that these things are "behaviour related".

 Elaine - lets hope the treatment helps her.
I understand what you mean. For years, Willow's peeing was put down to behaviour. She had regular urine tests etc. It wasn't until Easter when she had Cystitis and then crashed that full bloods were done and she was diagnosed with CRF. As soon as she started treatment, the peeing more or less stopped. Sadly it was too little, too late as she crashed again over xmas and had to be PTS after being on a drip twice :( - I will always ask questions and push for answers.
-
I am very sorry to hear that Mark, have been through the heart ache of CRF myself xxx

Elaine thinking of you all at this time, and have everything crossed here for Eva
Sorry can't be much help but Dad still in Woodend - if you need a babysitter fro Rayne or Bernie we have the time and space for that
-
Sorry Elaine, I hope Eva pulls through  My friend's cat had cholangio, must be about 2 yrs ago now, she was very poorly for a time, but she did recover and has been well ever since.
-
So sorry to hear Eva is poorly Elaine :( I'll be keeping everything crossed that she soon recovers from this

The specialist has just rang. Eva ate very very well yesterday but hasnt eaten so well today. They are not overly concerned but will moniter her eating over night. She is still yellow but doesnt glow in the dark any more, her skin is stained so she will be yellow for quite a while. The bloods show a small improvement to her liver and a suggestion that the bile is flowing a bit better. More bloods tomorrow. She has wet herself once or twice and wont allow them to clean her up, so she is a little smelly. She cannt clean herself as they have put a buster collar on to stop her from constantly pulling her tubes out.
If all goes well tonight and tomorrow, I may be able to go pick her up at the end of the week. She will still have the gastric tube in place so I can medicate her as she is on 10 different meds at the minute which will have to be administered twice daily.
Fingers crossed for continued improvement.

Elaine each passing day brings improvement hopefully for you both!
I hope she can be home soon then Auntie Liz can come for a visit and bring a food parcel from th Clan so Eva can have lots of nice things once her Mummy lets her have visitors
-
Hardly slept a wink last night. I am terrified. Terrified that I cannt get any one to come on the long drive down for her, terrified that I wont be able to cope with all the meds, terrified that she pulls her gastric tube out at home, terrified that she crashes when I get her home.

 I know the feeling Elaine. You will be fine and just get on with it at the time - she needs you and you will cope
-
Now Elaine you can do this for you and Eva and whilst terrifying you managed Winstons conditions well and can do it again for your little girl
Re the tube issue perhaps PM Lottie she is good with feeding tubes and all tube things both human and cat so may be able to give you some tips
Hope you have a passenger for the trip
-
I'm sure you'll be strong for her and will cope Elaine, hope the bloods show improvement today and she'll probably be more settled when she's home

Eva is being pts this afternoon :'(
-
Oh dear Elaine :'( I'm so sorry and sad to hear this :grouphug:

She didnt eat yesterday and was more jaundiced today. They did another ultrasound and have found a mass at the end of her gallbladder and shadows. She has been through enough and it's time for me to put all selfishness aside and let her go. I'm gonna miss her like hell, she was a very big part of this family.
-
You and Eva will be in my thoughts xx
