Title: Objects cats don't like?
Post by: Skiddaw on February 14, 2010, 16:25:35 PM
Just interested really... The Munchkin hates bin bags and runs a mile whenever the bin is emptied. He also doesn't like tin foil (so I have to wait until he's out of hearing range before I use it) and one particular cushion being moved (we have to move it very, very slowly or he hides under the table). Unsuprisingly he hates the vax but I've never had a cat that didn't (except dear departed Uncle M who used to like playing with the tube!) Do any of your babies have objects they don't like and if so, have you managed to 'cure' them of it?

Blip hates the ironing board as well as the cat eating vacuum cleaner.  She views the mop device as a mini vacuum cleaner.  Apart from that, she's OK with anything she's accustomed to.

That's strange about The Munchkin's cushion phobia

Lukey is terrified of the fridge/freezer, this is due to the freezer monster attack over two years ago (aka me, who stupidly decided to start scraping the ice from the freezer while he was eating near it).

Even though I have moved since the terrible incident and so the freezer is obviously in a different position/room he's still really scared of it. If I don't have feliway plugged it's a struggle to even get him to set foot in the kitchen to eat his tea as he's so scared  :(

Riley is scared of nothing  :naughty:

Pepper runs a mile if I hoover the carpet near him but when he's on the sofa and I'm hoovering the fleece on there he's not bothered by it.  Byron doesn't seem to dislike any objects really - only a Pepper cat  :naughty:

Foxy HATES my belt ...... it's made of up overlapping metal plates and for some strange reason she is absolutely terrified of it.  If it's on the floor she fluffs up like a loo brush and eyes suspiciously from a safe distance   I think she is convinced it's a snake and therefore should be given a very wide berth.

LOL! Glad it isn't just The Munchkin who has strange phobias. His thing with the cushion (The Cushion Of Doom as we call it) reminds me of my Auntie Dottie's clock. It was one of those old fashioned carriage clocks and because it was rather loud when it struck the hour someone had removed the striker at some point, so it made a strange whirring noise instead. I was TERRIFIED of that clock when I was a small child- didn't even like walking past it and apparently used to hide when it sounded. I can still remember how frightened it made me but have no idea why!

Little Toots (aka Gwynnie  ;) ) is scared of boxes - if I'm carrying them, but will happily sit and play in boxes when they are on the floor

George hates the tin foil being torn on the serrated edges of the box, but will play with a rolled up piece of tin foil!

Most arent keen on the hoover, but I can actually 'hoover' Ben with the upholstery brush and he loves it LOL!

I forgot aboutthe hairdryer ... both Foxy and Zephyr hate the hairdryer with a passion and as soon as I switch it on in the morning they both leave the bedroom in disgust.  Rossi on the other hand makes a beeline for me the minute she hears the dryer go on and jumps up onto the bed and has to have a quick "blow dry" EVERY morning.  They are all such funny little creatures aren't they.

3 out of 4 of ours hate the hoover monster and the hairdryer but bombproof Jasper couldn't care less... I think the noisy things are understandable though. They're also not keen on the broom!

Mr toughy is scared of the vacuum - he won't walk directly past it. So if he wants to get past he figures out 'safe route' and runs past. He also hates deodrant cans. It started off that he didn't like the hissing, now all you have to do is pick one up and he runs away  :(

Ollie and Tyler both hate the cat eating hoover. they both run a mile. Ollie dislikes the shower and the hairdryer and he is absolutely terrified of my 2 Guinnea Pigs. You would think they were killer Guinnea pigs the way he acts  :scared:

Ooh yeah, forgot about the deodorant- Oscar legs it if he even sees a can! He's such a wimp but it's quite endeering!  :Luv2:

Dave is scared of EVEVRYTHING! :evillaugh: The vacuum, noises in the communal hall for the flats, hairdryer, deodorant and just this evening he leapt back with fright from an innocuous looking dish, his dish :evillaugh: He gets into his high strung moods too where you just have to make a sudden noise, even a quiet one and he leaps about 40 foot in the air! Big jessie is my Dave :Luv2:

Chilli on the other hand is fearless. She used to have a vacuum phobia, to the point where she would take really convoluted routes to get round it but she seems to have gotten over that and is pretty much not bothered unless it comes right up to her. Dave lets her investigate any strange noises first before deciding whether to invesitgate himself :evillaugh:

Pooty is still terrified of the hoover, and is another one who hates deoderant, as soon as it sqirts he legs it  :Luv2:

No one bothered by hair dryer  :-:

All 3 of mine hate the evil hoover monster.

Tachi also appears to be scared of my hair straighteners.

When I looked after my friend's cat Sweeny he was scared of deodorant cans, but he would also do a strange thing with his mouth when you'd spray one or take the top off one, like a weird licking opening and closing of his mouth, then if you held one out near him he'd run a mile

Noah too hates the vacuum cleaner: he didn't much like the Tesco Value one but the Dyson was afeared long before it was ever switched on. Never used to like me picking up the jumbo litter tray, especially if it went above his head and same if I lift the laptop off my lap for him to cuddle - both understandable tho! But the big fear is BUBBLES not only does he run a mile when I blow them but each time he has appeared terrified of me for a while afterwards. :( Needless to say I no long try to persuade Noah playing with bubbles is fun.

Oh yes that cat eating  monster that is the hoover, they both hate it. Jess will bolt and hide, Milo will follow you around but at a safe distance.

Jess doesn't like the toilet flushing either.

Both boys hated the whistling kettle to start with but have got used to it now.

Oh and the smoke alarm they aren't keen on either, or the lawn mower.

cat eating vacuum cleaner.

I think it depends with different cats in the household, some of mine are scared of the hoover, some are not  :-: Macey jumps 10ft in the air if the hairdryer is put on while she's on the bed  Ted is scared of Jaimee- whereas Lyla is not and even goes to her for a stroke  :Luv2:

Most of mine hate the Postman,  Rosie Growler (hence her name) Growls at him every day,  it is a standing joke now.   They also dont like the smoke alarm,  they dont like the noise my phone makes when I get a text message and they really dont like it when I spray polish or air freshener.  Some are scared of the Hoover and some arent,   Ripley use to ride on the front of it when he was smaller,  he is too  big now and falls off.

The Hoover... sure fire way to make a three-legged cat disappear in a way only previously seen by the Cheshire Cat. Doesn't even have to be turned on to make her disappear.

My Mother - to the extent that if she hears the words "mum's coming around" she hides until she finds out if it's my mother, or the gullible one who only comes to visit to see the cat! Her and my mum have a mutual hate-hate relationship and can't stand each other - she turns from the most loving attention-seeking maniac, into a hissing ball of wrath! (She also attempts to hide under the duvet from my mother - hasn't quite figured out the suspicious cat-shaped lump on an otherwise flat bed, and swooshing black tail hanging out gives her away every single time).

She's not that fussed on the laundry basket either - but that's because she refuses to vacate the bedroom in the morning (and our doors swing shut so she has to be downstairs during the day or can't access the litter tray), and so I have to carry her in splendour downstairs myself... and on days I'm loading the washer, I tend to plonk her on top of the washing in the laundry basket and carry her downstairs that way... she really thinks this is beyond her dignity and status.

Neither of them like each other - my mum thinks the cat's a complete psycho neurotic, the cat no doubt thinks "cruel heartless human doesn't appreciate I'm adorable - what's wrong here" (everyone else who comes to the house thinks she's adorable and threatens to catnap her).

Hostilities between the two had diminished to the level that the boss deigned to sit on the human last visit - but that's rare - usually she skedaddles!

Jerry is completely fearless , Giz doesn't really like the hoover and neither does Beavis.
Fredcat is scared of feet  - if you step too close he runs.

Stevie is scared of absolutely everything at the moment - except all the other cats who he now chases daily! :evillaugh:

My lot aren't bothered by that much. But they all hate deodrant sprays and air fresheners. When I am sweeping the floors I usually have Jess practising his hunting skills - jumping all over the broom. Kitty is terrified of the hoover, and will go and hide under the bed!. Lastly, if any cat carrier appears in the house you wont see Tilly for dust!. Cats, gotta love them!
