FiFi has been in and out the litter tray from 8pm -so i know she has cystitis - had to ring up the vets as its only appointments now -you used to be able to just turn up.
Anyway we are going some time tomorrow morning -he rang me back and said if i ring about 9.30 am they will fit me in even though they are full.
Why does it always start after the vets have been shut an hour and at a week-end !?
Every time one of mine has had this (not for ages though now and FiFi ''s first time ) its always been way after the vets have closed or on a sat/sunday !
She does only eat dry cat food and i cannot get her to eat anything else even though i have tried every sort -she will only eat about 2 mouthfuls of chicken Sheba and thats it .
She hates you doing anything to her too - she tolerates the grooming and eye cleaning but scoots off after and then runs off for a few days after when you go to her, just in case you do anything else !
-
Always the way isnt it?! Hope she'll be ok at the vets tomorrow.
-
Luckily although a pest and uncomfortable cystitis in girls is not as serious as boys, hope she feels much better soon! ;)
-
hope she improves quick
-
Poor Fifi, hopefully the meds you get today will start working quickly
-
I know the feeling of it always being at night. Amber always starts with cystitis in the middle of the night.
Amber gets is repeatedly though so I had to change her from dry food to wet as I never saw her drink. Now she seems to prefer the wet and although I leave dry down at night it tends to just sit there. I had to take the dry away completely and she had to eat wet or go hungry. Possibly cruel but it worked

We have been this morning -don''t think either of us had much sleep !
My tablets are playing havoc with my tummy and kept me awake - Fifi was in and out the litter tray - anyway she has had an injection and 5 days of Nsamox tablets to take -also got her nails clipped . Here is hoping she picks up by tonight now.
-
Hope you're both feeling better soon
-
Hope you both on the mend
-
Hope the meds kick in quickly! :Luv2:

It's the same with Jaffa - he has had cystitis 3 times and twice it was during the evening after the vets had closed and once it was on a Sunday. Fortunately now I just ring the vet to confirm that it's ok to give him some of the metacam that he was given first time as that seems to work wonders for Jaffa. I am going to start giving Jaffa cystease to help - dont' know whether you've tried that with Fifi?

She has started the tablets today -there were lots of small wees in the litter trays last night -so am keeping an eye on her today - i suppose they should be kicking in by tomorrow !?
She is well enough in herself and been outside for a short while .
I haven''t tried her on the cystease as its the first time she has had it since i have had her (2 years in July). They look a bit big though !
I feel a lot better since i stopped one lot of the tablets -they were killing my stomach ! I had a decent nights sleep too which has helped -thanks.
-
Ambers on cystease and takes them with no problems. In fact I pick the box up and she trots into the room and jumps on the settee for me. If shes in a playful mood she has been known to take the capsules out of the end of the pill push and chew away on them but sadly she doesnt swallow them just makes then sticky so they have to be pill pushed down but theres no problem
I hope Fifi is feeling better soon. It took Amber about a week and I thought shed started again but it was the anti biotics upsetting her tum

Fifi doesn''t seem a lot better as yet :( she has had 1 tablet on Sat. evening and the 2 today - its been almost 48 hours since she had the injection ( well, at 11am tomorrow0 and i thought she would be a good bit better by now-she is still only doing tiny wees and sitting in the tray for ages .
I will ring the vet tomorrow and see what he thinks -maybe these tablets are not strong enough or just not working on her !?
-
Maybe they will take a while to kick in like abs do, hope they start working soon
-
Susanne - Metacam only has a shelf life of 6 months once opened, so you might want to check your bottle.
Fingers crossed Fifi is feeling better today

I'm sure the date on the bottle is 2013 but that is obv unopened. Maybe I read it wrong. I am assuming that the worst is that it is no longer effective but won't actually do any harm if past exp date but that's why I rang the vet to make sure it would be ok to give. It certainly worked.
bunglycat - has your vet mentioned metacam? I know some people aren't keen on metacam and maybe it's not suitable for Fifi, but when Jaffa has had it for cystitis it has led to an improvement in a couple of hours. Because it's an anti inflammatory and painkiller, it seems to calm down the bladder and stop it sending signals that it needs to be emptied all the time. Jaffa gradually relaxes and settles down once he's had a dose of metacam. The first time he was given it, I was advised to give it once a day (or maybe it was twice, I can't remember now) for a few days and he was also given some anti biotics as a precaution.
-
Thanks-i am going to ask him about metacam tonight as she isn''t a lot better and sitting in the tray for ages with still only as much as a pea afterwards!
Just got back from the dentists and in 1/2hour off to hospital and then the vets tonight !
-
Your busy Mrs!
I really feel for her cos I think we all know how uncomfortable it is!
-
Fifi has been back tonight and had 2 more injections -one is a new drug and i can''t remember what its called !
To be honest she is no better at all -in fact since getting back she has seemed worse -but we have not been back 2 hours yet - i suppose it will need time to work !?
I am getting paranoid now as he did say he hopes there is nothing else going on and maybe if no better she will have to have x-rays !
I am pretty worried as i thought she would have picked up now -not been worse :scared:
-
Hopefully, once they kick in she will be lots better
-
I'm sure she will pick up once the meds have really kicked in
-
Hope Fifi is feeling better by now. to you both
-
Well, its 2am and still no change - really starting to worry now :'(- i ust don''t seem to get a break -if its not me its one of the cats and i am still grieving and missing Bungly like mad :'( :'(- thought i was going to have a break from vets and vet bills for a while - i don''t seem to get £20 together before its costing me twice that and more .
-
Hope that things are settling down now for Fifi, they may take a little while
-
hope she is a little better Gill - can you not use a psda vet for a while until you get yourself together, I know you take the care of your cats very seriously but if it helps just for a little while it is what they are there for
-
Poor Fifi, how are things?
-
Fifi is still the same :( she is miserable too and has hardly eaten anything either )-off to the vets again in just under an hour for 6.20 appointment .
-
Poor Fifi, hope the vet can prescribe something to sort out the problem
-
I don''t know what to think now -she has had steroid injection, antibiotic injection and a new injection from a new drug for urine problems + nsamox tablets and there is no change at all !
-
:( Did the vet say that they may take a while to work? sometimes meds are like that then suddenly kick in.
-
:crossed: that the vet can get to the bottom of this and she's feeling better soon
-
Hope you got some joy from the vets?

Hi
Hope you don't mind me asking but is Fifi pooing ok?
The reason I ask is that my long-haired girlie last year had recurring cystitis and the Anti-inflammatory and AB as well as Cystaid never eased it as you would expect with those drugs.
What we discovered is that at its worst she had blocked anal glands and constipation caused by dehydration from hairballs - the cystitis she had was a stress reaction to that. Once the glands/constipation/furball were cleared the cystitis stopped almost immediately. Although kept her on cystaid for a period after that.
Now we have do preventative hairball control with Katalax as well as some dietary changes which seems (touch wood) to have stopped it.

To be honest -no she isn''t -but she also hasn''t eaten much at all for a couple of days - but will ask the vet about that when i ring tomorrow.
FiFi has had to be kept at the vets overnight for blood tests and x-rays - he did mention a bladder tumour too :'( :'(
I feel this is some kind of living nightmare - its so soon after losing Bungly and now this to worry me sick .
Haven''t been in long so just off to try and eat something !
-
Here's hoping the morning brings better news
-
poor fifi, hope it is something as simple as furballs
-
Poor Fifi I hope the test results are good news

Hi
Do hope that all goes well for Fifi today.
Good idea to mention to the vet the not eating much or pooing - my girlie did that as well because it was so uncomfortable. Only mentioned what happened to my girlie because the vets were trying to treat cystitis but the real problem with her was the constipation so a mini enema helped with that.
Sending postive vibes for you both today.
-
Update is its not good news - FiFi is baffling them at the moment - she has had bloods, x-ray and scan - done the tiniest wee (in 24 hours!) and it was full of blood -but apparantly cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Its looking at the moment like -a ruptured or tear in the bladder or a tumour on the bladder .
She is being kept in again tonight ( the vet ask me what her fav food is and has gone to Morrisons to fetch her some )- she is having a operation tomorrow to see whats going on - the prognosis isn''t very good at the moment .
I don''t know where i am to be honest , my heads all over the place - i have no idea how this has happened .
I was ask if she had been hit by a car -i know for a fact its not possible in anyway as she only sits at the bottom of the garden and she cannot get out at all -to be honest she hasn''t been out hardly at all over the last few weeks as she has looked outside and decided it was too cold .
I feel i am in a nightmare ! :'( :'(
-
So sorry to hear this Bungly, I'll be keeping everything crossed that the operation doesn't show anything serious
-
oh gill i am so sorry and hope that fifi will be ok , good luvk to her fot the op tomorrow

Fingers and fluffy paws crossed for beautiful Fifi :Luv:
-
anyone heard from Gill?
-
All the best from me, poor Fifi
-
Very quickly - i am just off to fetch her -still no good news -she hasn''t had an op today - still thinking its bladder rupture or cancer .
She couldn''t be cathertised (sp) as she was too small -but has been flushed with fluids .
Will try and ask again what they said -but i have to monitor her for the week-end , ring on Sunday and see if they are going to operate on Monday now .
She hasn''t eaten a thing since being there either -its not looking good at all :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Keeping fingers crossed for Fifi and am sure she will be pleased to be home with you
-
aww poor love, been thinking about her today and will keep hoping for good news
-
FiFi is home , she is very pleased to be back , has eaten a little , but really couldn''t wait to get in her heated bed !!! She sat in it and started purring straight away :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
Whilst i was talking to Sheryl on the phone -someone did a big wee in the litter tray :shify:- now i know for definate it was not Winston as he was with me , Smartie was still asleep in his heated bed - that leaves Sophie and FiFi - Fifi was in the kitchen , not sure where Soph was -but Soph doesn';'t usually cover it - so , i am thinking it was FiFi - which is good news .
Not really sure whats going on -the trouble is -neither does the vet
-
if she was hanging on for the comfort of her usual litter tray, that would answer a couple of questions, anyway
let's hope so
-
Maybe she was just a bit under the weather and something stressed her and she is actually fine. I do hope so but this does sound promising
-
Really hoping that is was Fifi who used the tray! She sounds a lot happier in herself though Gill which much be a godsend to you!
-
Glad to hear she is comfortable and keeping fingers crossed for her xx
-
Fingers crossed it was Fifi who did the wee ;D I'm glad she's home and seeming happier
-
Hoping everything is okay with Fifi Gill!
-
Hope Fifi is doing better now xx
-
How is Fifi today?
-
Well, its a mystery  she appears to be fine -eating, drinking and weeing okay and doing lots of sleeping as usual .
She is taking her tablets reasonably ok too - can''t think she needs an op if she carries on like this .
She is just the same as she was before this started
Last night Smartie was playing just before i went to bed , i was sweeping the kitchen floor as it had litter on it and he grabbed the brush a couple of times - 2 mins later when i went to give him his fortekor -his nose was bleeding - only a tiny bit - i think he has a little polyp right on the edge of the top/inside of his nose -i assume one of the brush bristles must have caught it -so i bathed it and stayed up an extra hour and kept checking it and its fine now .
Are these cats trying to turn me completely grey or paranoid - i feel like a wreck at the moment -watching and checking them evey 2 mins for something or the other !!!
-
I so understand the last sentence
It does not sound like any op is needed and whilst she is fine i would be tempted to not upset the applecart.
Cats are such a worry, dont I know......sigh.....but thats because we love them so much
-
Poor Fifi, glad she seems better now shes home.
These cats are a worry aren't they.
-
Well on the wee wee front that has happened to me twice and the docs are baffled as to what caused it!
Glad she seem much better now..... Grey is the new brown btw! :evillaugh:
-
Are these cats trying to turn me completely grey or paranoid
Both, probably! ;)
Its great that Fifi seems back to normal, perhaps it was just a severe bout of cystitis. If she won't eat wet food at all maybe try encouraging her to drink more with a tasty chicken stock - I use the carcass lfeftover when I have a roast and simmer in water for a few hours (or could use a slow cooker and leave it in all day). I keep some frozen in ice cube trays ready to use.
-
Glad to hear that Fifi is back to her usual self :)
-
Well, no change still -FiFi seems to be perfectly fine
I have rung the vet to see if he needs to see her and he said no -finish antibiotics and keep an eye on her .
Only thing he thinks now is she could have had a blockage in the bladder and now its been flushed she is okay !?
No idea how she could have got this -if thats what it was
Anyway - just the rest of the bill to pay now and hope thats it for a long while now !!!!
-
how odd, glad she is is ok though!
-
Glad shes picked up
-
Great news ;D
Maybe it was caused by an infection which has now cleared up so she's not exhibiting any problems.
-
Glad she is better. If she is prone to bacterial cystitis, you might want to think about buying some d-mannose - it is a type of sugar. It is proven to stop bacteria sticking to the wall of the urinary tract and multiplying. It is the the same sugar that is in cranberry without the stuff cats don't need (like the acid)
