Title: cat security brackets
Post by: mogman5 on January 08, 2010, 16:46:02 PM
Hi
Has anybody had any problems with aluminion brackets, several of mine snapped with the weight of the snow on the netting, there seems to be a week point on the bend of the brackets.
I found a new company called felisafe (www.felisafe.co.uk) who were able to replace the brackets with much stronger steel ones within a few days and were able to design them so I didn't have to undo the cord which goes through all the existing bracket's.
I found them very helpful and was able to get my cats back out in the garden the same week and would recommend anyone considering a system to keep there cats safe in there own garden to check  out there website.

Have you contacted Roz about this cos am sure she would like to know if there is a problem.

Our snow is very light in weight and would not snap anything but the ice would cos thats much heavier.

I haven't contacted Roz because we have had the system for a couple of years now as far as I am aware you can only buy a full kit from her.
The brackets obviously have a fault as on contacting steve at felisafe he said he has had a few similar enquiries and had to replace the aluminion brackets with his steel ones.
We live in a rural area and have had a lot of snow which as you say does eventually turn to ice, also to replace the Roz's brackets the cord runs through all the brackets and I didn't want to have to take the whole system down.
The replacement brackets from Felisafe allowed me to fit them without doing this and I really don't want to take the chance of our cat's getting out if this happens again.

I wonder if Roz does do stronger ones?

Securacat which is Roz's business is the designer of this system  ;D

I don't think there's a fault as such, aluminium is lightweight but will never be as strong as steel - Roz made it very clear to me, when I was erecting my cat proofing, the importance of clearing snow from the netting and brackets as the aluminium can be weakened by it.  At the first sign of snow settling I go out with a big brush and am happy to do that to continue keeping my boys safe.

Edit to add: I'm intrigued, how did below work?
