My little man has been diagnoised with nose cancer :(
Evidently its an old sunburn type (his nose is white ) and the vet doesnt know how long hes had it,
I took Eddie in last Xmas and he already had this little scab on his nose and up until a little while ago never bothered him but now hes scratched it and made it very sore ,this morning he had his breakfast and then was washing himself and must have caught it, he yowled extensively for a few minutes and blood was coming everywhere, hes actually took a small piece out of his nose, the vet says there is nothing they can do apart from put cream on it to keep it soft and stop it from itching,
Hes now fast asleep in his bed after having a plate of turkey and some cream.
If anyone has any advice on this subject please let me know and PLEASE PLEASE send those vibes for my little man

SCC is slow developing, its this they typically get on their ears/nose. Ears are alot easier to deal with as you can remove them and thats normally the end of the problem.
Its not unheard of for surgery to be done on the nose but its slow, difficult healing and not something id decide on lightly having met an old chap who had it done.
Mister magoo had SCC on his ears and now has a very small black dot on his nose which i know at some point is going to develop :(
At the moment his black dot is the stage before a pre cancerous scab so my vet has me monitoring it, when it changes to a scab you can use cryotherapy but not sure how this is for the animal, il be researching in to that.
Steroids or metacam can be helpful in slowing it down and would probably be the best course of action for you
If you edit your title it should catch more attention, theres a couple of people who come to mind with cats who have had SCC on the nose
A good place to read is fab cats http://www.fabcats.org (http://www.fabcats.org)
If your vet is open to trying steroids or metacam it could buy a reasonable amount of comfortable time for him
-
Thanks MM,I I will look into this,o have been reading up on it and vets can depending on the case give
Nonopioid analgesics
steroids -Dexamethasone or Prednisone
Weak opioid drugs ie codiene
Strong " " ie morphine
Could one of the mods modify the title for me please

My best friend's cat, Jenny, had SCC on her nose and she had a considerable period of good quality time after diagnosis  Teresa also has experience of this, but of course, she's in hospital herself at present. As you say, there are various options to combat and relieve Eddie's symptoms and I hope he'll be happy and lively for a good long while yet

I am sorry to hear this, Pebbles had pre-cancerous scabs on her nose, and she had a monthly steroid jab for 3 months, and it practically went away, it stayed away for 3 months, and I was going to get them started again, but she developed other problems (she had always been a sickly cat). I did discuss surgery with my vet, but she had just read an article that said there are lots of issues with removing part of their nose.
-
Desley what was the steroid she had ,as we are going to try them for Eddie and it might be nice to ask the vet about the one you had
-
Not sure now, it was just a monthly jab.
-
So sorry to hear this Sandra, sending lots of healing vibes to Eddie

Hows Eddie doing? Still poodling along i hope
-
Hes not doing bad thanks for asking MM,
His nose is a bit of a mess but the vet said its on his nose not in it so thats good news and we now have him on steroids which seem to be helping, hes eating well and is happy still purrring for England, we have cut his claws short to stop him scratching it and im putting aloe vera cream on to keep it soft, mind you thats a job in itself, wrapped in a towel under my arm, same hand lightly scruffing him so i can use other hand to apply, not easy i can tell you but has to be done ;)
I have to hide the towel and cream behind my back as he scarpers if he sees it :evillaugh:
-
Bless him, more healing vibes to the gorgeous gent Eddie! :Luv2:
-
Fingers crossed the steroids will help shrink it
-
Its with a very sad heart i have to say its almost time to loose my little man,hes still eating but the nose is getting worse ,
hes got another growth coming on the opposite side now
The vet says it wont be long before he wont be able to eat because of the swelling.
The steroids seem to help for a while but suddenly dont seem to be doing anything,
Its breaking my heart to see him like this :'(
Please send lots of vibes for him
-
lots and lots of  for you and Eddie
may Eddie remain pain free and your remaining time together give you some happy memories for what has to be
