She was wobbly on her legs and the vet thinks she may have had a neurological episode? because she is holding her head at an angle. She has a very sore mouth too - I knew her teeth needed looking at, but its actually much worse than I thought, a very red gum under one tooth. I'd planned to take her in anyway because she has a lump on her neck (it was like a skin tag - which apparently she's always had according to her previous owners), but it bled once when I caught it with the comb - and then I noticed an actual lump had come up underneath it - but it seems thats the least of her worries at the mo.
She's 16 so they are doing kidney function bloods, vet isnt sure she will have time to do the dental today, so I've got to ring in a bit.

Well she's home, and because they operated quite late in the day (they were still working on her when I phoned at 4pm) she was not only wobbly from the neurological problem, but from the anaesthetic as well - I tried keeping her in the cat basket, but she was desperate to get out and I've been following her around most of the evening, to stop her from bumping into things, falling off things - she never goes upstairs, but for some reason kept insisting on trying to climb the stairs, so had to shut the door to the hall.
It doesnt sound too good, the vet is thinking vestibular syndrome - and she thinks that what she thought was an abcess around the tooth is more sinsister and linked to the lump on her neck, which she's removed. The very inflamed gum, the lump and the head tilt are all the same side. The prognosis isnt good for vestibular disease, and at the moment its hard to see how she can continue like she is because of the dangers of her hurting herself - she doesnt seem to have any awareness that she can't jump up onto things etc - bless her, she still managed to get herself to the litter tray, despite falling over on the way. :Luv:
That said, she's sleeping peacefully now, having clawed her way up onto the (leather  ) settee. But earlier she went to get off and I had to rush up and make sure she didnt fall. And she polished off a plate of food when she came home. Anyway, got to take her back on Thursday and will have another chat about things with the vet then.

I am so sorry Gillian and hope that the vet is wrong, is she having the lump tested?
Best to see how Zeta is when all the anesthetic is out of her system, poor girl and poor you
Sending lots of good wishes
-
Poor Zeta -hope she can be sorted out and get better .
   to you and Zeta and loads of healing vibes for her .
-
thinking of Zeta and you, Gillian
it does sound though as if she is feeling OK, as she is trying to do things and not just wanting to rest up
-
Thanks :thanks:
I am so sorry Gillian and hope that the vet is wrong, is she having the lump tested?
She asked me if I wanted it tested, and at first I thought yes, but when I thought about it, because even if its just a benign lump totoally unrelated - there are still these other symptoms of the head tilt and the wobbly walking, and if its the inflammatory type of lump which has caused these symptoms, then I don't think there is treatment. If the head tilt and wobbly walking are all down to simple middle ear infection, they should respond to the antibiotic jab the vet has given her. I guess we will know over the next couple of days.
-
lets ho[e its ears although in humans unless its an infectuion abs dont work and a vrrus has to burn itself out. so many blooming things it could be and most not able to be seen.
hoping for the best for zeta
-
poor Zeta, I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds and that she is a bit more steady on her feet today
-
Poor Zeta. I hope it's not as bad as you fear.
-
How are things today?
-
Hope Zeta's having a better day now the anaesthetic has worn off  xxx
-
Sending out healing vibes to darling Zeta, do hope that abs will help and also hope she is feeling a lot less giddy today!!! :Luv2:
-
She's about the same today, still wobbly and falling over (she sneezed earlier and fell straight over poor girl) - apart from that, she's eating well and is sleeping at the moment. She still insists on trying to get up onto the worktop so I have to watch her like a hawk. :scared: It must be horrible feeling like that - if its anything like labriynthitis, which I've had before, affects the balance, it makes you feel horribly dizzy and nauseous, its the worst feeling. The others are being very tolerant when she walks into them. :)
-
Yeah Ive had small episodes of vertigo in the past and its really scary and yuk!!!
Bless her....Just hope she manages to perk up soon bless! :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
i have had that too gillian and was like it for about 3 months..........she sounds like she isnt feeling too bad in herself.
lots of good wishes for her
-
Poor love, hope she's soon feeling better
-
Poor Zeta -hope she picks up soon - also had it and it makes you feel
Lots of healing vibes and    being sent .
-
Sending lots of good wishes for Zeta and  for you Gillian.
Boy had Vestibular Syndrom too and the vet said its like feeling sea sick :( I hope she respond to antibiotics if not the steroid injection might help , it did help Boy for a while .
Healing vibes for Zeta.
-
Thank you :thanks: Been back to the vets tonight and she says her mouth is looking less angry - but she believes that the lump in her mouth and the one on her neck were tumours - and that she has many tiny lumps all over her body - I must admit I had felt some really tiny lumps when I've been grooming her, but there are more I hadnt spotted that the vet pointed out. She said it is likely that the vestibular syndrome she has is due to the tumours and it will get worse, but she's giving further antibiotics anyway. I asked would she be feeling sick and dizzy, but she didnt seem to think so :Dont know: although I would have thought anything that affects the balance would make them feel dizzy, like you said Pav - like feeling sea sick.
-
Poor Zeta
-
:( :(
-
:( oh dear, hope you can keep her comfortable and the abs help
-
   Poor Zeta :(
Hope the abs help her.
-
Bless her, sending positive healing vibes to her!
-
Fingers crossed for her.
-
Not getting my hopes up, BUT....she seems a little better to me since she's been on the antibiotics. She's nowhere near as wobbly - maybe the vet is wrong and it isnt down the tumours - because surely if she's improving on the antibiotics then it could be just an infection?
Here she is today, managed to get up on the worktop, and Joe is looking after her ;)

Bless them, fingers crossed it is an infection.
-
what a gorgeous pair -glad Zeta is getting better -hope it continues
:Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
I hope she keeps on improving and what a kind boy Joe is
-
That's better news, more positive healing vibes being sent to her! :Luv2:
-
I think she has improved even more, she even managed to jump onto the 'landing stage' I've got between the floor and worktop - which she managed to fall off several times a few days ago when trying to jump on it. Darn it!!! - I've just looked at her neck where the lump was and I see she's scratched it and made it bleed.... :tired:
-
So glad she's continuing to improve but a shame she's made herself bleed. In 2008 Korky had a episode where he kept falling over to the right and the vet was quite pessimistic because she thought it was neurological but he recovered completely with ABs. I hope Zeta does the same
-
Zeta's had a check up this evening and the wound on her neck is still healing, stiches out next week sometime. Her mouth is looking much better and more to the point, she is only very slightly wobbly now and there is no head tilt. Continue with antibiotics for another week and go from there. Cautiously optimistic ;)
-
This sounds good and hoping that she will fully recover
-
Much more positive news....Still sending the healing vibes out to her! :Luv2:
-
Cautious optimism is good! Topping up the healing positive vibes again to stop any wobbling :Luv2:
-
That sounds positive Gillian ;D
