Hello i just asked the amin if it was okay for me to post this up and i got green light :D
i am doing a masters degree in clinical animal behaviour at lincoln university and at the moment we got a project about people and their cats and i just wondered if there are anybody here on this forum that wants to help me out by completing a questionnaire :)
i dont want to say too much about the study now, as i dont want to ruin it :P hehe but once i got all my data and analysed it i will post it all up on this thread and im hoping we will find something interesting :) one out of many interesting projects im sure.
hope some of you are interested in helping me out :) and good luck with it, im sure some of you might find it a little challenging as im kinda forcing an answer out of you with strongly agree, agree, disagree and strongly dissagry... i know its tempting to say no comment :P but hopefully you will all find it okay. if you got any questions or comments please dont hesitate to ask :)
i didnt manage to attach the word document, so if you want to participate either pm me, leave a comment on the thread, or email me on:
tinaborgen@yahoo.co.uk
then i will send you the questionnaire in any way best suited to you pasted on email or as a word doc and you can complete it and return it on my email
sorry that it got a little complicated seeing as i could upload the word attachment, but hope that okay anyways ;)
again thank you so much :) really appreciate it

Hello Tina and :welcome: to Purrs
I have completed the questionnaire - I hope you have received it ok
-
Completed mine also and sent back too! ;)
-
have indeed all saved to my computer ready to be analysed once i get all the people i need :)
think be a little struggle as seems most people either have indoor only, or let cat out when pleases the owner (which is what i have done too in past :P ) but need more people in the unrestricted access group hmm, think that will be more of a struggle. got some today tho so thats great :)
thank you everybody :) cant wait to see what data i can pull :)
-
mine will be back tomorrow ;D
-
A lot of peeps on here have cat proofed gardens also.....Like me! ;) So for this mine have been put in the category of "indoor only"
-
I'd like to fill it in pls, :)
-
thank you to everybody so far :D
still lacking some people to start analyse need twice the amount got now :s eeeek hoping i dont have to use my classmates data as rather show that could find people myself and use own data :P looks so much better hehe.
anybody else out there yet to taken the questionnaire?
i especially need people with indoor only cats and cats with unrestricted access via a cat flap :D
help appreciated :)

I have got 5 indoor (large secure cat run they use when weather is nice) and 1 outdoor (a stray who adopted us) you can Email me the questionaire at sherak@tiscali.co.uk
Wasnt it Lincoln uni that was carrying out a study on cats that spray?
-
Sorry as I said the auction has been on until yesterday so we have been busy.....I have the questionnaire and fall into the latter category and will let you have it back asap.
-
quite possibly :D they have done lots of studies
http://www.lincoln.ac.uk/dbs/staff/2203.asp this is the cat woman at uni, her enrichment report is quite nice. got that on my computer if to any interest.
as for the spraying one its quite likely that my tutor daniel mills wrote that report :D
tina
-
thanks gill hope it all went well with the auction :D
and thus i thought i would update the thread and ask again :)
and then we shall see what we can get :)
thank you though take your time, seems we got an extension on the report as a lot of people have found it hard to get responses back, so time is no issue anymore :D woohooo hehe
-
.... need more people in the unrestricted access group
That'll be our lot then :-: Have emailed you.
-
yes auction went very well thanks, why dont you look around purrs if you are bored, loads of interesting topics and pictures.
-
What the hey. Want a Yank to answer it?
-
We have one indoor only cat if you still need participants in that CATegory :wow: (I know, I know :-[ )
Feel free to email it to flaming8ball@hotmail.co.uk
-
I have two youngsters that have only just been given a catflap to go through, so if that would be of use let me know and I'll send an email.
:)
-
sent form back and see you have lots of interst now the auction is over.
More volunteers needed though ;D
-
If you still need willing volunteers, just let me know.
-
She does Tiggerman, just send her your email addy cos its a word doc ;D
-
indeed, need a fair amount more, so if there are more out there with indoor only or cats via cat flap i need more in those groups :D
tina
ps. thank you to everybody so far :)
-
Completed mine this morning and returned :)
-
Got my email from Tina this morning but no attachments.
Can you send it again please.
-
hey everybody :) are there anybody else who have not completed the questionnaire who would be willing to help me?
just put all of the info on spreadsheet (took aaaages) not looking forward to the statistics but will look forward to what i find :)
i need 9 more people with indoor only cats with 3 cats or less
and 12 more with outdoor cat via a cat flap again with 3 cats or less
all healthy cats (well no diseases so have to stay in)
and once i get those last ones i can finally do the stats.
tricky getting all the info needed indeed.
hope i dont have to use my class mates data, so hope there are more of you out there :)
let me know by sending an email to tinaborgen@yahoo.co.uk
again thank you so much :)

I fit neither of those catergories :innocent:
-
what a shame, narrowing this down now as we are really looking for specific data and got a lot of data that we were to exclude but still very usefull so i will see if i can use all the data i got still but def need to fill the categories we wanted initially :D hope there are some people out there :)

hey
sorry about the time it took me to update been completely manic here with so much work finished last thing at midnight...
got my cat assignment done and already got it back as well and got 62% which is a good mark i think :P the stats failed me a little!!! hate stats. but hey i thought i upload the results for you to have a look at basically looking at the difference between owners with cat flaps and indoor only cats and if we can see some cognitive dissonance (conflicting beliefs/thoughts) about they way that they manage their cats
-
some more
-
and the conclusion in brief
-
Thanks for posting that, very interesting ;D
Now please can you do one about why fur gets onto every surface at the wrong moments
My shirt has just aquired a mass of fur and can only think its when I last picked Franta up to allow myself to sit in my puter chair :shify:
-

My shirt has just aquired a mass of fur and can only think its when I last picked Franta up to allow myself to sit in my puter chair :shify:
And have you also noticed that that cats have a sort of "chameleon" ability to shed light fur onto dark clothes, but also manage to shed dark hair onto light clothes? Even all-black Mr T can achieve this somehow ;) :evillaugh:
-
You are right cos my shirt is black and had Frantas light tummy fur on it.......sigh
-
I must be a strange one as I fall into those 2 groups- 5 I do not let roam the streets and they are kept in a secure garden with no chance of escape- Harry on the other hand knows how to escape and does quite often, although I dont seem to mind with him as I feel his natural cat behaviour would be compromised and he would be less happy kept in the garden 24/7
So I really feel its down to the cat in question and how you think it would affect them :)
Harry has not been out for a while now, too cold for him :evillaugh: , but he is learning to be a good boy in the house ;D Usually he beats everyone up if he cant get out :innocent:
-
I def shows that people with catproofed gardens and their cats live a happy, guilt-free life :)
I'm not being facetious Tina - I am trying to get my head around an Ethogram for my own study tomorrow - maybe you could give me some pointers ;)
-
I guess it depends on the cat really. 5 of mine dont hunt which makes them happy being confined to the garden, where as Harry is clearly not happy as he is a hunter, no taking that out of him, so he shows he's not happy by getting himself out :shy:
