Title: Feeling bad
Post by: purrdy1 on November 21, 2009, 21:35:52 PM
I have taken on two kittens who appear to be under the weather......one has  manky eyes (i have gently bathed them and they seem to be clearing up a bit now) and the other has dihorrea, and was sick this morning. I took these two on because the state i found them in. I should have walked away but now at least they stand half a chance. I am willing to see that they get the best care and try and nurse tehm back to health as best i can.
Vets visit arrnged first thing on Monday to get them checked over.
I should have left them...but i simply cuoldnt. :'(

I dont want to worry you Hun but from the photos they look really young and if one has got the runs they really need to see the vet asap because little ones can go downhill really quickly and become dehydrated etc - I hope they both make a speedy recovery xxx

Please get them to the vet ASAP. Don't wait until Monday. The litter my boy came from were all poorly with similar problems and I can vouch first hand just how quickly they can and do go downhill. They really do need to see a vet sooner rather than later. I don't mean to scare you.

They also need to be isolated if not already.

Purrdy don't feel bad about this - you've rescued 2 little darlings and I'm sure Twiglet and Fern will be ok.

Purrdy, I'm sure you're doing the best you can. I hope the vet visit goes well for Twiglet and Fern - it's terrifying when a cat of any age gets poorly, but I think it's that bit scarier when they're really young or really old.

Forgot to say.....extremely cute new arrivals you have there! :)

Dont feel bad but I have just posted what the others have said on your other thread, young kittens losing at both ends can go down in hours.

You have saved them from something worse happening to them cos you love cats and have some knowledge, so dont feel bad but please watch out for both over night until they see a vet tomorow. They need to be kept warm and hydrated and you need to find out how old and what sort of food they should be eating.

Lots of luck over night with them

thank you for your supportive replies, im feeling so sensitive right now, its like everything that could have gone wrng this year HAS! :'( :'( :'(

Both of the little ones have been quite spritely this evening and Fern especially so!, her stools seems to be less like dihorrea but twiglet has not eaten since this morning and doesnt seem at all interested in food or water!!! :'( :'(

I have cheked to see if they are dehydrated and i think that twiggy is :(

I have tried a pippette to get some fluid into her but she is simply not interested and prefers to curl up with the hottie bottle in her bed...(dont worry its well insulated!) They both look so content in there!..its hard to belive that they are poorly....

Trust me to fall for a couple of sick little waifs.....that is me all over....

im not religious but im saying a little prayer to get them through the night to thier gaurdian angels!!

Im sorry to hear the little ones are,nt feeling well :(
If Twiglet is dehydrated then she really needs some fluid as little ones can go downhill very quickly.
You need to contact a vet today if possible
Sending lots of positive vibes for these 2 little ones

Fingers crossed they got through the night, and the vet can see them today. Dehydrated kittens need a lot of encouragement to drink, as it does stop them eating.

 OMG kittens full of life today...took to vet and she said too young for vaccinations checked them over and said bring back in a couple of weeks!! both of them eating and drinking she said it was probably the trauma of move and change in diet that has upset them but has asked for stool sample to test.

Both of them are like different kittens today!!! :evillaugh: I cannot beleive it!

thanks for all your happy vibes!

Glad to hear they are much better. How old did the vet say they were, I am assuming less than 8 weeks if they need another 2 weeks before vacc?

So glad these two are so much brighter :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:.

Whatever you do Purdy, don't try searching Teresa's posts on the subject of stools as you'll find far too many refernces to said subject and may come across a bit of a surprise  :evillaugh:

So pleased to hear they've perked up and are eating and producing more solid stools

They can be such a worry, but you've done a wonderful thing for these babes, and I'm sure once they're more settled they will amaze you at the speed they grow big and strong  :Luv:

:innocent: yes back in two weeks unless they appear to be poorly in which case take them back....I have antibiotic eye stuff for twiggy and have to bathe her eyes individually and not le them have any form of cat milk......(ummmm silly me!) :(

all in all they are much brighter and right now mummy has prepared their bed, nice hot water bottle and fleecy blankets....BLISSS!!! ;D

Hope little one is gonna be okay, like said before they can go downhill so fast, especially if burning energy through play! I'd give the vets a ring again explaining what is happening and that you have just had them seen, maybe little one needs something.....In the meantime I would try a bit of natural yoghurt and try and keep the fluids up! Best of luck and do let us know how you get on!  ;)

;D both eating well again but both absolutely HEAVING in fleas! :-[ ughghghghghghhg...she told me that they had been frontlined and wormed......there is no way!. >:(...Ive kept them pretty much in kitchen and i noticed that they have been scratching away i couldnt see any fleas but then tonight on my lap in front of fire they are both itch and scratch..and i find a dirty great flea!...and so i frontline them both and now i have fleas dropping off in their droves! :( :( I HATE FLEAS!!! ive washed and dried their blankets so they have clean bedding and in the mean time i hope the font line works....(siad it was okay on packet to use on kittens) ive washed all the floors again and washed my girls bedding also....paranoid or waht! i have had an infestation in teh past and its not any fun!!! :scared:

so tomorrow another trip out to get more frontline and carpet spray! (we have mainly wood or ceramic floors so its not too bad....)

Fern keeps crying for me!....then runs up my leg....i fear that they both miss mum terribly and i wonder if they were too young to leave the nest....poor little mites!
Title: Re: Feeling bad
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on November 24, 2009, 20:52:29 PM
Sounds like you are doing everything right .....................just dont overdose them with frontline  :shify: :shify:

Probalby they had a couple of fleas but loads of eggs which have now hatched cos they are in nice warm clean place.

Keep up the good work with them
Title: Re: Feeling bad
Post by: purrdy1 on November 24, 2009, 20:57:15 PM
yes didnt think about that.... :-:

no i gave them a small dose of the frontline...not a whole one!!....

they are sleeping in their freshly made and washed fleecy balnkets with hot water bottle.......and hopefully they can start to be proper kittens soon and not the poor litte waifs they have appeared to be this last few days....what with eye drops, trips to vets funny food and drinks! :)

they love all teh toys we have for them...mainly boxes, tubes that we already had but they love the newscratching post we got them....they are so comical! :naughty:

Not wanting to add to your burden but suggest you ring vets about worming treatment unless already done.  Important to get special kitten stuff from vets esp if they have a flea problem.  I have no kitten fleas/worming experience coz our most recent two came from Covcats all sorted but know diarrhoea in cats can be a sign of worms and diarrhoea in kittens is a dangerous thing.

They are both most certainly drop dead gorgeous and love the play area your son devised for them on other thread.  Really fab  :)
