In the past I’ve looked at the wonderful tributes on this thread and wondered what I would say, when the time came, about Korky. But I was always lost for words. Its nearly four weeks since he went to the bridge and still I’m lost for words, but I’ll try.
With some cats its love at first sight; they have that special something that captivates you in a heartbeat and wont let go. With Korky it was different. He wasn’t especially handsome or especially clever, especially funny or especially naughty. He wasn’t especially demonstrative or especially aloof. He didn’t leave you gasping with admiration at his achievements or crying with frustration at his disdain. He was just a regular cat ….or maybe he wasn’t.
When I think of him I’m reminded of the mamas and papas song:
‘Once I believed that when love came to me
It would come with rockets, bells and poetry,
But with me and you
It just started quietly and grew…….’
It started quietly when he was 9 weeks old and it grew and grew and grew and grew, always quietly, until he left this earth at the age of 17 years and 4 months. And it will endure forever.
Did I say he was just a regular cat? Oh no, he was Korky - my gentle giant, my beautiful, big, soppy boy who took everything in his stride and never complained.
Did I say he didn’t excel at anything? How wrong that is. He excelled at unconditional love and what more could anyone ask?
I miss him. His daddy misses him. Home is not home without Korky and there’ll never be another Korky. Sweet dreams darling, free from pain. Play hard at the bridge till we meet again.

One year on and there's still a Korky-shaped hole in our home and our hearts. Its not as raw around the edges but I guess it will always be there. We miss you and will love you forever. :Luv2:

You're right Carol, that hole will always be there but the sides become smoother over time

Yes always a hole but the edges get fuzzier

You probably wont remember this but the day on the passed we came out of the vets to a rainbow, even though it wasn't raining where we were.
