Title: DIY Cat Proofing - pics
Post by: Gillian Harvey on November 06, 2009, 20:16:42 PM
Thought you'd like to see how one of my customers has cat proofed her garden. She used copper piping as the support and deer netting for the mesh. The copper piping is fixed to the existing post and rail fencing (can't remember how she said she'd fixed that - I'll find out). I think it looks great - the first 3 pics show the detail and in the last pic you can see that its really unobtrusive when looked at from the house. Best of all, its been up since May and no breaches so far! although the cows in the adjoining field did their best to munch the deer netting apparently! They've got round that by fixing posts and wire on the cows side so the cows can't reach the deer netting, with farmers grudging agreement! The 4 cats have previously been free range and have adapted well.

that's really good

having acquired a cat who can shin up and down wooden posts in a flash, I would certainly recommend metal posts for cat proofing

Ooh looks great, I'm halfway through doing mine. The weather is making it a bit difficult though!

I may be missing something here  :shify: , but why couldn't they climb over the fence?  Does the overhang stop them?

Yes, that angled part stops them climbing over!  ;)

That copper piping is going to go all horribly green and goungy unless they are painted with gloss paint...nothing water based.......sigh

A nice racing car green would blend in well!  ;)

I have an awful taste in my mouth just thinking of that copper turning!

What a lovely idea, what a lovely huge garden... wish we could live like that one day in the future :)

I wish too, spoken as a flat dweller. The catproofing looks great. My only comment is it's not burmese proof! The little stunt-devils can get over the 45 degree angle netting so we had to roof ours, making part of the garden look like alcatraz.  Hope your customer checks that netting for holes from time to time  ;)

Looks fab Gillian  ;D nice to see a more established garden being successfully proofed  :wow:
Deer netting is tough stuff so should last well
