Something has been really bothering Me....
Before I got Dooey I actually rang a rescue as they were advertising kittens and cats....
Was having a nice chat with the lady (they had kittens ready) and then she asked if I had had cats before so I said i had cats now....
She asked how many so I told the truth (9)...SHE WASN'T IMPRESSED
I told her they were all vac'ed, neutered, microchipped, wormed, flead......I told her how i had just nursed Issey for 6mths etc
but her whole attitude had changed.......
I said I was up for a homecheck and would love her to meet my lot....but by now she couldnt wait to get me off the phone !!!!!
So should i have lied ?
I could have hidden half of them on a home check !!

How strange. I suppose its probably rescues having to re-home because of over crowding but as you say you told her all about your cats and situation so I cant see a problem.

No Michelle, why should you have lied just to amuse someone when you are proud of each and everyone of your babes :)
I think some of these rescue folk live in the perfect world of having 2 cats, as some people only see 2 kids as acceptable :shy: But if your heart can streach to more of a limit, let it be

Individual rescues have different opinions on the amount of cats that can live together peaceably. (As do people!) No, you shouldn't have lied; I'm sure there are other rescues in your area that would've been prepared to check out your cats to make sure there was no disharmony.
I think at the end of the day they'll always be concern about a cats mental wellbeing when in a large group due to it not being the norm for a feline. ;)
-
Just gutted that she pre - judged me !
-
Well more fool her Michelle, the more cats you have the more love you give to them
To be honest these days I think there are very few people with only 1-2 cats.
Not saying people with only a few cats dont love them to bits ect :)

I get the same reaction from most peeps Michelle, they either think your amazing or mad!
Dust yerself off and forget about it... Their loss and all that! ;)
I know Teresa would of given you a kitten from Paws Inn, and she is one of the best cat orientated rescue's with the cats best interests at heart! ;)

Look at it this way Michelle, if it wasn't for her ill-informed attitude then you wouldn't have Dooey :Luv2: My local CP were quite dismissive of me when I wanted to adopt indoor cats, but I'm grateful to them as I wouldn't have found my beautiful boys if it wasn't for them!

Same here, couldn't agree with Tiggy's Mum - Helen more if I tried :Luv2:

Michelle we would have given her heart failure!!!!! :evillaugh:
we may be taking on a daiebtic boy just have to wait and see if my idea's for homing him work! Robin was fine with it - shame there may be another 2 ferals coming in 3 weeks - they are 7 months old and have been in a pen since June and are still a bit freaky - quite the norm for the Clan!!!!
-
Its sad she wouldnt visit you, bet some of them there have large fur families :shify:
Bluecross have a one cat per bedroom rule so i would fail miserably, you can have 4 bedrooms and 2 cats that really arent happy so seems silly to me
-
Maybe she thought you were a hoarder with cats crawling out of every cupboard  It's a pity that some people pre-judge without bothering even to attempt a home check.
-
Working out the room numbers we have just enough space for the cats if you include the 5 bathrooms but not sure we humans would still fit in - we sleep with 12 on the bed most nights and have another 10 on various parts of the bedroom furniture!
We are not hoarders either we just seem to end up with feral colonies and lifes rejects who have no where else to go and being big hearted they end up here where they will be loved even from a distance - as Ace, Blue and Sammy prefer but can we keep the catmilk topped up!

As we have 6, am trying to work out if we would have 3 or 4 too many as OH uses 1 of our 3 bedrooms as an office :shify:

I can understand her initial concern. but her unwillingness to reconsider is the main problem. As others have said, you could be a cat-hoarder. But surely once she knew they were all maintained with proper care a home-check would have resolved anyoutstanding concerns she might have had. She could even, reasonably, have asked to see their papers to confirm your assertions, but to deny you outright just shows a very limited mind, and someone who has set ideas that no amount of reason will change. Some people are like that. Nothing you can do about it. It is her you should feel sorry for Michelle. You haven't done owt wrong.

I've had the same reaction from one local cat rescue, who wouldnt even consider me to adopt based on the numbers I already had, let alone come and do a homecheck. And yet, another rescue came out and did a homecheck, was obviously happy with what they saw and I adopted Crystal from them some years ago.

I'm really lucky Adel Cats Protection have an open mind about indoor cats and let me adopt the gorgeous Noah. :Luv2: I e-mailed the RSPCA as well and their response was quite rude, basically disapproving of indoor cats, despite me expressing my willingness to adopt an adult with a health condition (I was thinking deaf or FIV). If I'd been a complete novice in a rented flat wanting a pair of fluffy kittens it would have been a different matter.
Everyone who posts on Purrs seems to be committed to their furbabies welfare, however large or small the household!!

Some folks think we should be comitted!
We always think its the 3 dogs who tip the conversation scales - we have 42 cats, 4 kittens and 3 dogs - by the time we get to the 3 dogs their faces ae quite funny!!!!!
We are lucky than we can afford what we have and also have some as permanant fosters - Cissy, Smudger and ragamuffin are here forever due to the other members of their colony being poisoned and they get us 20 bags of cat litter a year from their CP we get lovely purrs and know we have saved them from a terrible death - the PM's on the others in the colony advised a banned chemical was used!

I don't agree with there being any fixed limits, its a totally individual thing. It depends on whether someone has the finances and time to care for the cats in their care, the nature of the individual cats, whether they are indoor or outdoor cat and so on. Provided those criteria are met, the more the merrier. It is crazy in these times when cats and kittens are being pts that a potentially good home is turned down without even a homecheck.
