Yesterday I noticed quite by chance, on a few of the pink pad areas of the hind paw of Oliver some tiny white rough spots, just like sort of callus you get on the sole of the foot sometimes, like after walking around with an ill fitted shoe.
I don“t think he is experiencing any discomfort, he was totally nonchalant while I was examining (he became fidgety after a while but that was just the sign of the end of his patience...), but I thought it a bit strange, he is a 100% housecat and it is not like he roams around on a rough terrain, is it common, or even possible for a cat like him to get a callus on a paw? If not, is it some kind of a skin disorder which needs to be treated?

I don't know the answer, Dolcetta, but I will say that Blip is an indoor / outdoor cat and some of the terrain in her territory is quite rough, yet I have never seen any sort of callus on her pads. You haven't used a new cleaning product anywhere have you?

Hmmm... as you mentioned it, I think my partner used something new to clean the bathroom a couple of weeks ago. It may be worth investigating on this issue, as his skin is superhuman and he can handle acid based liquids and remain unaffected  so he is not afraid of using something really strong. I just hope it is not anything serious... :-:

Hi Hun,
I would keep a close eye on Oliver's paws .... a couple of years ago we had a member whose little kitty (Google) had paw problems ... the pads first changed colour from black to pink, then they started to go flaky and crack. After several vet visits google was dianosed with Plasma Cell Pododermatitis. He was treated for the condition and it all cleared up fine. But if Ollies paws start to look sore or change colour it might be worth checking with the vet.
Just edited all the spelling and grammer mistakes! LOL

Thanks Sam I will definitely keep a close eye on them. My partner, who I am sure loves him ALMOST as much as I do is completely unconcerned believing them to be the same thing as the callus on human foot, but I am not quite as convinced, so I will keep an eagle eye for any changes, and if I see any I will do anything to convince my partner for a vet visit!

Okay, I managed to take a close up pic of the paw in question...
