Title: Volunteers needed for (legit!) academic study into their relationships with cats
Post by: Christine (Blip) on October 12, 2009, 11:08:21 AM
You are invited to participate in a research study being undertaken by Katrina, Catchat's volunteer behavioural advisor, about the relationships that UK pet carers have today with their companion animals (cats & dogs). The study is for academic purposes and it will use conventional personality questionnaires to measure pet & human personality dimensions as predictors for the formation of such relationships. This study will not require or reveal any personal information, it would be conducted over the phone and it should not take more than 20 minutes to complete.

If you wish to take part or you want to know more about the survey please contact Katrina by either email (at: behaviour@catchat.org or at: kzurbanu@yahoo.co.uk using as subject: pets & humans relationships survey) or you can call or text her on 07790157633 with your phone number & time and date that it is convenient to call you. Also please specify whether your pet is a cat or dog or both...

Thanks for your time and hopefully your participation.

**For those who would be interested in the findings of this survey the results will be available and will be posted on the Catchat site sometime early next summer (2010)**

Christine is this a new survey? I recall participating in another one Katrina did but can't be sure if it's the same one.

Katrina conducted interviews with some of us last year about our relationships with our pets, as a pilot study.  This one will be for the actual dissertation, so she is looking for many more people to take part.  As I understand it, participation in the pilot study does not preclude participation in this one.

Lovely, thanks for that. I think I'll sign up for it. If anything, this past few weeks with Lexy has been a test of endurance on both our parts :evillaugh:

I find it strange that Katrina did not post this as I told Mandy that I was sure Purrs peeps would like to take part and I she gave me Katrinas email. So I emailed Katrina on behalf of Purrs but she did not bother to reply  :shify: :shify:

All I have been told by Mandy is that Katrina doesn't have a Purrs account.  Why she doesn't sign up for one, I do not know.  But Katrina is CatChat's behavioural advisor.

I do apologise to Gill for not replying to her original email...I totally forgot...I tend to reply to all my emails but this time I totally forgot so again my apologies.

As for the survey I need as many participants as possible, the survey can only be done by phone (I can't email the questions) and the participants need to be over 18 years old, having the pet for at least one year and the pet can be either cat or dog.
For more information email me at behaviour@catchat.org or call or text on the number mentioned in the original post.
Again many thanks for the time and hopefully your participation.

Katrina

Hi Katrina

Does it only apply to current pets?  I have only had my Poot for 2 months, but my bridge baby Max was with me for 9 years until we had to let him go in July?

That's fine...the 'restriction' is mainly for people that didn't have pets before and their current one has being living with them for less than a year...

Thanks Katrina

I love that picture  ;D

Please can you tell us how long you will be interviewing people for, not each individual but how long before you start working on the written side.

Hi Gilll
Thanks for replying. I'm planning to do the interviews till mid November as I  need to interview as many as possible to have some valid results for survey, after that I'm hoping to do the analysis and start writing in December...a final draft needs to be send at the end of January for final comments and the final date to send the dissertation is around 20th of March...the results usually come out end of May beginning of June.

Thanks for the comment on photo...she is my youngest and most spoiled one...Sheng Chi in person
