As per the title really! What do your cats do when they see a 'stranger cat' outside through a window? By stranger cat I don't mean one that's slightly odd but one that's not part of their household!
Riley and Lu are 2 1/2 now and have always been either indoor only or have only had access to their catproofed garden. There's not very many cats around here, especially given that the neighbouring gardens on all 3 sides are patrolled by dogs :evillaugh: so don't think they've ever seen another cat in the flesh on home territory. They saw other cats in the cattery and didn't seem in the least bit bothered by them, I asked on here at the time and people thought it wasn't indicative of how they might be with other cats in general though as it was a strange environment.
This morning there was a cat in my front garden (ripping my bin bags open as it's bin day :innocent:). I lifted Riley up to the windowsill so he could see it and there was no puffy tail, no growling/hissing - just a bit of a tail swoosh, almost as if he had seen a bird. He lost interest in the cat quite quickly too, as though he wasn't affected by the sight of it and is acting completely normal not on high alert or anything.
So... How does your cat react? Does it sound as though Riley might be cat friendly? I didn't show Lu as he is very sensitive and was worried about him feeling threatened :shy:

mine don't like it, they rush out the cat flap to the gate at the side of the house and try to get them through a 1cm gap at the bottom!
-
Some of mine aren't bothered but Elvis and Poppy defend their home

Well I was going to say the same as what yours have done Helen but Byron has just spat and growled at Pep through the window (thankfully he can't see or hear her) :-: It depends what mood she's in really she used to do that to the ferals but doesn't bother much now. Pepper obviously has no idea who is there being deaf and blind but I don't even think he has a sense of smell because he walks straight into Byron.

Mine go crazy jumping from window to window, even going upstairs to the window for a better look
Macey makes me laugh, when Harry comes home if she's at the window she goes batty and attacks him when he comes in :evillaugh:

Max would sit on the windowsill often, and we have quite a few cats around us (our neighbours had 3 who pretty much lived in our back garden), so he was used them! He'd meaow at them a lot, but never any hissspits or anything like that. He used to paw the back door when the Freda was outside, and she would do it on the glass the other side, it was very cute :Luv2:
I'm not sure if Poot has seen any other cats just yet as he's not really into looking out of the window as much yet!!!

Mine go nuts.....Stalking them from inside!

Depends on the cat. Some seem to be "acceptable" to mine and they'll tolerate the cat being in their garden. Others (like the opportunist that is necessitating me saving for a microchip cat flap :tired:) they can't stand the sight of and growl and generally make a lot of noise at.

Indoor only kitty- stalks, tail swishes and grumbles. I get the distinct impression we are going to have to stay a one kitty household!

As Meatloaf would say, you took the words right out of my mouth. Noni for instance thoroughly enjoys play chasing any cat that comes into our back garden (not sure they all enjoy it that much :innocent: ) but she comes running in, jumps up and growls thru window if it's Butu; the neighbours grey boy but he is a bit of an elderly bully :shify:

All of ours are indoor so they’ve only seen strange cats through the windows.
Penguin gets very excited and so does Gizmo. Like they want to play.
Neither of the girls care or seem to see anything.

Thanks everyone, seems like his reaction isn't unusual then. I was hoping that everyone would say their cats hiss and growl at strange cats and that meant he'd be cat friendly to any future brothers or sisters!
-
It doesn't mean he would or wouldn't, Helen. ;) That's the thing about cats isn't it? They're never predictable! :evillaugh:

sounds all too familiar :naughty:
if not the cats, it's my lab who wants to chase the evil things away :briggin:

Even cat friendly cats will get agitated at strangers, my lot accept other cats into their gang but will crouch down and glare at outsiders, theres a big difference to them, stranger outside bad, stranger being introduced not bad.
-
He was quite friendly though MM, no aggression whatsoever (then again we are talking about my big cuddly bear Riley :Luv:) - I was hoping it bodes well for any future family members?
-
I think what i meant to say is even a bad reaction through a window doesnt mean they wont accept a new friend :innocent:
Your boys seem lovely lads, not the kind to be mean to another ;D

Mine hate visitoring cats, especially any who come thro the flap.
There arent many cats around here now, if any but Misa and Sasa were acting like there was one last night, guarding the flap and Misa wouldnt go out until I went first.
Sasa would beat them up if she had too but would rather run into the house. When there was last a kittencat at the flap who came in there was hissing and growling and even a scream at which mine all ran and hid but all wanted to see, so Misa was hiding behind the study door the birmans were at the top of the stairs and Sasa behind the front room door.
I think I got the message that we have enough cats

Dylan meows at any visiting cats because he wants to go and see them. He used to have a friend at one time that used to sit outside under the windowsill and they would meow at each other  We currently have a black and white cat that visits and I can always tell it's there because Dylan tells me ;D Hobbes usually then goes to have a look because he follows Dylan everywhere - no hissing etc from either of them though.
