Title: TV show looking for pets with medical conditions to treat
Post by: petshow1 on September 24, 2009, 16:19:06 PM

Hi Cat lovers

We are making a new pet programme and looking for medical cases for our expert vets to tackle on the show. I wondered if there were any cat owners out there who may be experiening an unusual medical problem which they would like to find a cure for?
It would be great to cover a cat case on the programme, please let us know: pets@tigeraspect.co.uk

Thank you

Hello, petshow1

Do you have a working title for this new programme yet?

I appeared on TV several times with cats and each time it was with written permission of my vet, the TV company actually approached the vets for recommendations, might be a better route for you to go and a more realistic one.

afraid I can't say on the title front.
Thanks for the advice, we are exploring many avenues for finding contributors.

afraid I can't say on the title front.

That's a shame as it means we can't assess the editorial stance of the show.  It could be that your attitude to the cat owners is going to be less than sympathetic, even cynical, couldn't it?

Oh dear, petshow1 has logged off without responding to my last post.

I note that the production company concerned, Tiger Aspect, currently has a poll /quiz on its website about pet plastic surgery and a 'hot fact' that 'dogs have the most plastic surgery of all domestic animals' which some may feel is indicative of the lines of research being taken for this programme and therefore the likely editorial stance and content.

You are looking for owners of pets with an unusual medical condition that existing vet has not been able to identify so that your expert vet can diagnose on the telly?  Is it a serious programme or, as I'm afraid we will all suspect if you don't give more info, just a chance to poke fun?

I assume that the owner's existing vet would have to refer the pet to the vet taking part in your show?

I for one do not doubt that you are indeed researching for a forthcoming programme, petshow1.

What we would like to know is the editorial stance your producers will be taking.  Perhaps you would care to advise on the nature of the illnesses or conditions that you seek to feature and how you will be presenting the cat owners concerned.

Afraid I'm here purely to find cats, if you have a case then please come forth and send us an email, a member of the pet team will then be in touch if we are keen to hear more...

would your experts not be in a position to use patients they are already have?  anyone here as an animal lover is likely to already be having illness treated by a vet

Afraid I'm here purely to find cats,

I am sure our members will draw their own conclusions from your reticence, petshow1, as in my experience researchers do know the details of the programmes on which they are working.

I am minded to lock this thread unless any of our other members have any objection?

I have to say it all sounds rather dodgy to me. Any competently edited TV programme would do as has already been suggested, and approach vets. More specifically, vets working at university facilities who might have more interesting cases referred to them. Approaching star-struck owners seems like a gimmick to me and I for one would be treating the whole thing with extreme caution. The more so, given the 'flavour' of their earlier efforts ... >:(

Block away please, I'm going elsewhere

I think the reticence to provide any further information speaks for itself to be honest..........

If petshow1 is unable or unwilling to provide any further details, perhaps someone more senior on the show would like to provide the requested details?

Otherwise I fear they are wasting their time on a forum such as Purrs, where genuine cat lovers would have sought medical advice already if their cats were ill, and who would also exercise extreme caution with any programme which was not 100% geared towards the wellbeing of the animal.......

I think its time to lock the thread too because it obvious an unscrupeless attempt to get victims!

So am locking it as petshow has gone elsewhere for his victims but if and one wants it reopened for a good reason them please pm me or a moddy bod who will reopen it,
