Title: Looking for a high meat content food that is chunks in gravy
Post by: Mark on September 21, 2009, 08:24:02 AM
Renal food with Willow & Clapton is hit or miss. For the last week or so, Willow has refused it full stop. I know the next best thing is food with binders added and the most important thing is the quality (bioavailabilty) of the protein in it. She loves Gourmet gold & Gourmet Perles but they have vegetable (soya) protein in them and cereal. The only type of foods I have seen that are 100% meat are supermeat/pate type ones but she won't eat them. I really need to find one that is chunks in gravy without vegetable protein - any ideas?

She won't eat the type of food that has strings of chicken or fish in a clear jelly either  :tired:

I am tempted to try a raw food diet but it seems quite complicated to keep up?

Schmusy Vollwert Flakes or Miamor Ragout Royale might fit the bill: PM me your address again and I'll pop a couple of sachets in the post for you to try.

I have the Schmusy in game and the Miamor in turkey or duck variants.

Thanks C

I did try a couple of the Schmusy pouches you donated to the branch (swapped them with some other pouches  :evillaugh: ) but they didn't get eaten - not sure if they were game flavour?. Usually, game is Willow's favourite flavour. The pet shop in Canterbury used to split boxes and sell single pouches and the lady in there saved the game ones for Willow  :) - They stopped doing it though. She also likes the Sheba foil in Game flavour but it doesn't come in singles so I have to buy a 4 pack to get one she likes

Not if you use the frozen meat packs that are balanced already for you, including meat, organs and bone - like these (they do a taster pack for £10 which is refundable off your next order). http://www.food4-cats.co.uk/

Would she eat Hi LIfe pouches (the Real Meat ones?) they are chicken and various other meats - sort of chunks and gravy ish  :)

No  :evillaugh:

She like little chunks she can pick up with a claw  :tired:  :evillaugh:

I am tempted to try the taster pack but feeling nauseous just thinking about it

I have seen that - it looks like "Pal"  :evillaugh: - I'm sure it is tender but it is like school dinner meat I think? - I think it is cooked in Argentina  :shify:

I tried one of the pouches Christine sent me and she sniffed it and walked off. She went and started helping herself to kit-e-kat in gravy from Clapton's plate  - He is going mad for it and I wish I had never tried it as he is refusing to eat Royal Canin wet in favour of it  - Why will they eat the rubbish ones but not the decent ones?

Yes but I feel guiltier giving them s**t food than feeding it to myself  :evillaugh:

Theres not much in it with regard to quality if you look at the ingredients - both have meat and animal derivs, cereals, veg protein extracts (soya), the only difference is kitekat has various sugars, so I wouldnt worry too much about them eating kitekat.  ;)

No, not the ones I sent to Mark, Gillian  :)

I have left it out in case she changes her mind.
She has licked the kit-e-kat plate clean and the posh one is untouched  :tired:

For a tiny cat, she is very good at eating every scrap if she likes something - unlike the others - I must scoop 1kg of wet food down the toilet each day  :tired:

I meant between kitekat and royal canin  :) Mark said Clapton was eating kitekat rather than royal canin.

I thought RC was better (but not best) quality than the store brands - it should be @ 3 x the price  - I paid £4.99 a box on offer. It does have the added omega 3 & 6 and egg (I think) which are good for CRF kitties?

Anyway, she is tucking into a pouch of Schmusy  game (and renalzin  :evillaugh:) flavour as I type  ;D

I will see what the ingredients are and whether I can get just the game flavour

Thanks C  :)

Kitekat: With Poultry - Meat and Animal Derivatives (including min. 4% Poultry), Cereals, Vegetable Protein Extracts, Minerals, Various Sugars. Which is not much different from Royal Canin pouches: meat and animal derivatives, fish and fish derivatives, cereals, vegetable protein extracts, derivatives of vegetable origin, minerals.

But if its Royal Canin renal - ingredients look a lot better admittedly: Chicken meat, chicken liver, pork liver, maize flour,
sunflower oil, powdered egg white, fish oil, pork meat, cellulose fibre,
minerals, etc  :)

They have RC renal and regular - oddly the regular is more expensive.

Ah, I misunderstood.  So many foods named in Mark's post!  ;)

Yes, you can buy each flavour separately from Zooplus.
