Well, as soon as she comes out of hiding that is!! She came from the streets and is very nervous, you can just about stroke her, but not much else, so she has come here for some one on one - she hasn't had a good week though, spayed on Wed, vacc'd yesterday and now being moved - she is so patient though, bless her, she didn't bother with the journey at all, and only made one small miaow when she got here. Hopefully she wont be bothered by being away from her kittens. She is a pure black female, quite tiny, so 18mo max. LEts hope this socialising case isn't as long as the last one!!
-
Aw bless her....I think with the hectic week she's had and the way she is reacting now it wont take long for her to relax and enjoy! :Luv2:
:pic: :print: :waiting: :heeee heeee:
-
Hope she settles in well Desley - she sounds very sweet :Luv2:
-
I am sure she will, we will just have to see how she goes with the socialising - I can stroke her, which is good, I haven't tried picking her up yet, and just on here to give her long enough to eat her tea before I go in and sit with her for a bit. She does have two catnip cigars and a catnip ball in there, so that might help a bit.
-
Ellie sounds lovely and am sure your magic touch will work wonders ;D
-
Ellie sounds lovely, hope she settles in really well
-
I popped in about 8 once my tea was ready and sat in with her while I ate it - she had come out of her den, and ate most of her tea and didn't move away, she just looked at me, she allowed her pic to be taken, but wasn't too keen on being stroked. Just before I left, I did stroke her, she slightly moved, but no aggression and I did get a slight purr before she went on the other side of the bed, so I just gave her two treats and left her. Once she has settled a bit, I might take Sam in with me, as she clearly has the potential and watching another cat have lots of fuss might help her. She is back in her little den this morning (it nearly got taken to the rescue, but i didn't have time to pull it apart!!), and I can stroke her a little in there. Picking her up is going to be an entirely different matter, but we will worry about that at a later date. For now, I am happy with her progress - I did get pics, but the camera lead is being awkward!!
-
That sounds really good so far, I also think fussing Sam whilst she's there is a good idea it reminds me as I always do that with mine if the ferals are in the garden and I'm sure it really helps. Look forward to photos :)
-
I'm sure with lots of time and patience little Ellie will come round nicely Desley
-
Thanks guys, I am sure things will go fine with her, and hopefully wont be long till i am saying she can be rehomed.
-
She has had fusses today, and a couple of quick kisses on her back (and one on her head, but she wasn't keen on that) - not hte happiest about being stroked and she will only accept so much, but am still pleased with her, and she has had treats for being good, so that should help a lot. She has been more snuffly today though, bless her, and a bit more reluctant to eat, so she has been spoilt and had food taken to her.
-
Hope she is OK Desley. She is very beautiful :Luv:
-
Aw! What a beautiful black babe Ellie is....Thanks for posting the pics Des! :Luv2:
-
:Luv: she is lovely Desley I'm sure she'll do well in your care, hope she's feeling better soon.
-
Her eyes are a lot better today (although I scared her when I tried to clean one of them), but I think we overdid the treats last night, she is a bit loose today, bless her.
-
I haven't updated this thread for a while, we have had a good couple of days, where rather than just sitting tolerating fuss, she has been really enjoying it, purring, kneading, dribbling - even nibbled my finger last night!! She has also learnt about pushing against my hand for some more, or if she wants a different part touching. She is reluctant at the beginning every day, but less and less. I did try and stop one of her dens last night, as it is hte most enclosed, she did go in the more open one this morning and we had a much better fuss session, but madam figured out how I had blocked it and soon sorted that, so will do a more permanent method when she is out of it, as she is more responsive in the bigger den. I did take Sam in this morning, so she was watching him on my knee enjoying fusses, and actually chirruped and tried to come out, but then he hissed and growled, which I didn't expect as he is normally good in the house. She clearly will be fine being rehomed with other cats.
-
Awww she's gorgeous Desley, and sounds like she's making wonderful progress in your care :Luv2:
-
Really pleased to hear that Ellie is doing so well :)
-
She is doing well, fingers crossed she comes on in leaps and bounds and can look for a new home soon.
-
She looks so tiny in the photo but beautiful and im glad to hear she is responding to love and im sure she will soon be coming for fusses
-
She is very tiny, I will try and get some more of her when she is relaxed tomorrow, will block off the small den again, she has more space in the larger one and she really relaxed this morning. She is very responsive though, and even knows her name, even though she didn't come with it.
-
This is good to hear....Glad she is such a loving babe and I hope it wont be too long till she is in her forever home! :Luv2:
-
We have had another good morning - I blocked off the small den, so she has spent part of her time in the large den and part of her time on the windowsill - we have just had some good fusses on the windowsill, and she even let me clean her eye. As soon as you leave though, she is back to how she was, you can't walk out, go back in and immediately touch her - she spat at me for that. She even got a kiss on the head, but was reluctant wiht that. I hope that in the next couple of weeks, she can be put up for rehoming.
-
awww :Luv: I'm sure you'll gradually get there, and it is an advantage that she is ok with other cats too.
-
Yeah, i think we will, I am realy positive.
-
:crossed:
-
I missed this girl - what a lovely looking young lady she is. :)
-
She is a lovely little thing. I hope she gets her forever home soon.
-
We are still building up her confidence, she is coming round quicker each time I go in though and even debated going to her food while I was still in the room this morning. She does love to be stroked, although is a bit wary when you go near her tail. She had a bit of a play the other day, but nothing since. I took Arthur in with me last night, and she is really interested in other cats - sadly he did bat her round the head, even though i was told he is good with other cats.
-
:( Poor Ellie, Byron bats Pep round the head when he accidentally walks into her! Glad that she is getting more confident :)
-
It may just be her nerves that he is responding too, Im sure when they have met a few more times things will settle! :Luv2:
-
I took him in with her last night so I could hoover his room (Sam was out, and i don't like shutting the door on him - even if I am downstairs, he sits on the neighbours windowsill so I cant see he wants to come in!!), she didn't seem to bother going near him, and he settled on the chair. She is taking less time each time I go in to accept fusses, but was in the smaller den last night, which makes it a bit harder for me to get to her.
-
Sounds like she's making wonderful progress Desley, and so pleased that she's allowing regular fusses now :Luv2:
-
Come out, come out little Ellie, the little den may be cosy but Aunty Des needs to give you more cuddles! :Luv2:
-
What a pretty lady. Hope she gains a bit of confidence soon!
-
We have made some real progress with Ellie, I had a couple of attempts to pick her up yesterday - I got spat at, but she came back for a fuss straight away, and I had some chicken with me, so she got treats for it too. I then sat round the corner of her den and tried to coax her out, she was very wary. This morning, she came out to eat her breakfast while I was at the side of her, and even let me touch her back, so hopefully that is the start of her coming out more for fusses.
-
It sounds like she is still being bit wary but also starting to realse she's going to be ok with you too, great news ;D
-
Wonderful :Luv2:
-
The good thing about this progress is you know this is early days, imagine the cuddlebum she is gonna end up! :Luv2:
Keep up the good work! ;)
-
Yep, we have had some more stroking while she was eating this morning. She absolutely adores being fussed, we just have to work on her being out in the open now.
-
Being out in the open will come as her confidence grows....Keep up your fantastic work Des with Ellie, I feel she has so much to offer! :Luv2:
-
Thanks - we have had an even better morning, rather than me putting her bowl near her for her to come out, she came to it in her normal place and ate the whole lot while I was there, i got a couple of tiny fusses, and she was showing an interest in the room rather than darting back to her safe place. I will start feeding her last as the others were fussing for their breakfast!!
-
I would normally say "small steps" but she herself is making giant leaps! :wow:
-
I wonder if she has taken over the house yet? :shify: :evillaugh:
-
Well, we were doing really well until Wed afternoon, she actually came out and put her paws on my leg, and was getting a bit more confident on eating in the open. Then we caught a stray we had been trying to catch for a few weeks and the person taking her couldn't get her till last night, so she went in a cage in the kitchen, and screamed everytime you opened the door, which unsettled Ellie and she disappeared under the bookcase - haven't worked out how she got there yet, and I thought I had lost her!! Hopefully she will come round again soon.
-
Poor Ellie. My cats were the same when they could hear newbie crying in the safe room. It made them more nervous than seeing him!
-
Aw bless her, Im sure once she know's the stray is out of the house she will start her jaunts again! :Luv2:
-
aww, I'm sure she'll come round again soon
-
Well, the stray went on Thurs, she does still keep going under the bookcase, but we are doing well with her, I Can sometimes get her to come out and eat her tea by calling her name and tapping her bowl, and she is still having fusses - I gave her two kisses before, but she spits at you by the second kiss. She stayed out in the open while I was on the chair (next to where she was sat) for the longest time ever, so am really pleased with her.
-
Aw! She is doing really well though, Im sure that knock back by the stray being there will fade from her memory soon! :Luv2:
-
She is, and we have had another good morning - she is allowing fuss out in the open more, mind you, she does get treats for being fussed!!
-
;D great news!
-
Think I just may come live at your Des...Getting treats for being fussed! :Luv2: Amazing what treats can do! ;)
Talking of treats I gave Blackie (my ex feral) some dairylea on a bread stick which I held....He loved it and did'nt mind me holding it at all! :)
-
Desley I had to laugh at the bit where you said she spat when you kissed her! reminds me of Schui, initially we could stroke him so long then he'd just lash out - but we still love them all the same :)
:Luv: Blackie
-
We have had a really good week, she was starting to be more responsive and come out everytime you went in (although part of that is food orientated, bless her!!). I tried to pick her up last night and got scratched, and she seemed a bit more reluctant so I thought I had set her back, but the complete opposite this morning!! She came out for her food, allowed me to stroke her while she was eating, and then we had a 15-20 min play session - never seen her play so much, I suspected she had started, as things weren't in the same places, but she had been ignoring me trying to play with her - till this morning. She stayed out in the open for ages, and acted like a confident cat, just a tad jumpy at sudden movements. She was actively pushing against my legs for fuss, so hopefully she can be rehomed this year. I even got her to stand on my legs for 2 treats (she is a very food orientated cat!!)
-
This year as in before Xmas? :wow:
I think your doing wonder's with her, she's coming on leaps and bounds now with the aid of your patience and of course the treats! ;) :Luv2:
-
:wow: that's great news!
-
I think she could go up for rehoming in the next month - we do shut for Christmas in December though, so she might still be here, but will be very surprised if she isn't on the rehoming list. It is amazing how much she adores her fusses and will push for them. She has even showed an interest in leaving her room today, I might give her a go during the week - she will come to me when I call her name, but I can't pick her up.
-
Sound's promising! ;D
Yes I'd give her a go through the week, you have nothing to lose! ;)
My Oscar is a weird one, he will follow me about, let my rub his tum for ages and pick him up for an amazing 5 seconds!
Some cats just dont like to be picked up but adore being fussed, maybe she is gonna be just like that?
-
yeah, it is.
The only problem I will have is that I might not be able to get her back to her room if I can't pick her up!!
I am not bothered by not liking picking up, most cats are like that - Molly hates being picked up and I have had her for nearly 4 years. As long as she enjoys fussing, that is the main thing.
-
The only problem I will have is that I might not be able to get her back to her room if I can't pick her up!!
Im sure with the aid of treats you will be able to coax her back in there! ;)
Good Luck! ;)
-
Fingers crossed for this little girl and hope she goes back in by herself, ;)
She sounds delightful now she is gaining a bit of confidence and its wonderful to watch them learning how to play,i had this with little Mika, she didnt know how to play at first now shes a little monkey and into everything :evillaugh:
-
wasn't quite brave enough to do it tonight, although she is getting really good at coming out for a fuss and playing. It really is wonderful to see nervous cats playing
-
Yep, it is. Sage is being sporadically brave with the newbie then remembering she's nervous.....but when she forgets it's wonderful to see her and Darwin tussling over the three way tunnel we have on the floor!
Ellie sounds lovely. :)
-
Hoping her progress is continuing to be steady! :Luv2:
-
YEp, another good night with her, she was sleeping in a new place completely out in the open and allowed me to fuss her. She had a good play while lying near my legs too. I am definitely going to suggest putting her on the rehoming page when I am there this weekend.
-
Wonderful news. A credit to you and how you care for the cats, Desley. :) And go Ellie!
-
Really pleased she is doing well :)
-
Woo! That's excellent news....It must be a pleasure to have a foster in that is easily helped and moved on! ;D
-
Things are getting better with Ellie, she let me pick her up twice on Fri (although didn't like it yesterday and caught me with her claws), and was soo playful last night - unfortunately I didn't have the camera for hte best playing, but did get a couple of shots. She is still wary of certain things, and is still in her room, but things are looking really good - she has found her voice as well and does tell me when she is hungry. She is very responsive though, and you dont even need to call her name, she will come when you just put your fingers towards her, as she loves to be fussed.
-
How wonderful! :Luv2:
Its good that you were able to pick her up twice, okay the claws may have came out the second time but Im sure that was just a little bout of worry on her behalf! :Luv2:
When she is getting fussed does she ever sit on you? That would be a good start for her being used to getting picked up! ;)
-
I know - haven't been able to pick her up since though!! Got some great pics of her, but not going to have time to resize this week - anyone fancy resizing them for me?
She hasn't sat on me yet, she will stand on her back legs for a fuss when I am sat on the chair though, and she does look at my knee, but not quite brave enough yet. I can kiss her tail though, and the other day I was allowed to kiss her back, but her head is a different matter, although from time to time she will sniff my head.
-
I can resize them if you like
-
Cheers Jane, will take the camera to work tomorrow and send them in my lunch break - do you mind doing Arthurs too? Not as many of him though.
-
No problem :)
-
I take it Des must of been too busy to send the pics...Will let you off today just cos its yer birfday! ;D :Luv2:
-
Yes, I was - I had to go and buy cakes for the ladies at work!!
-
:-: Is that some sick ritual down where you live Des, you have the Birthday, you buy the cakes?
-
Ellie photos :Luv:
-
Yay! Bless, she does look tiny but massively beautiful! :Luv2:
-
We had a funny night, I took some carrot sticks in with me, and she showed an interest, so I gave her one to prove she couldnt eat it, so sat and crunched it!! She had a few carrot sticks, but seemed to eat those quicker than the piece of cheese I saved her!! What I was impressed by was that she ate them out in the open, the chicken I gave her the night before, she took into her den. She was in a very playful mood, so not interested in being touched.
-
Oh yummy, carrot sticks over cheese!  Its good she is gaining much confidence now to eat in the open, leaps and bounds my dear...Brill work! :wow:
-
I know, the silly girl!! I put Arthur in with her last night so he wouldnt have me up during the night, and she is a bit reluctant to come out, but food soon won, so have left him in there for today, there was no aggression from either of them when they got close. I will give her some one on one time though, not sure where he will go!! She was allowing fusses again last night and we had a really good play session and she even checked out the door twice!!
-
I'm really pleased she's doing so well and that she wasn't too bad in with Arthur :)
-
Its the "trust" in you she has now that is amazing, even with what should be a big set back re Arthur has only ruffled her slightly.... :Luv2:
-
Awww, just looked at the photos. Ellie is stunning! :Luv:
-
I am amazed at her trust levels, BM, it doesn't matter what you do, she will come straight back for a fuss. Still skittish when I attempt to pick her up though, but not too bothered about that - I was deliberately picking Arthur up and putting him on my knee this morning, to show her it is nice. She is relaxing more round him now, I do keep finding her out of her den, although she sometimes scarpers back when I open the door. I got engrossed fussing them this morning, so Zi screamed at the door for her food, and Ellie went running to the door to see what the fuss was, so she does like other cats, just think Arthur is a bit in her face. Still not brave enough to let her out of the room though, might do next week, as I am away this weekend, so both are going to have to be kept in the cat room, so not fair to start it now.
-
Agree to keep her in until you can be there for a good stretch to watch the early days etc! Im glad she seems not bothered by other cats, another good pointer for her! ;) :Luv2:
-
Well, Ellie has surprised me this weekend, I warned my neighbours they probably wouldnt see her, and she did keep coming out for them, although wouldnt let her touch them, and when I got back she came straight out and it only took minutes before I could stroke her, so she will be put up for rehoming this week, I am very pleased with her confidence. I did open the cat room door for her last night, very nervous, and as soon as I moved she ran straight back in, so she got a treat, and I will have to sit very still when she goes near the door tonight.
-
That's great news, well done :)
-
Fab news! Im sure this pretty girl wont be waiting long! :Luv2:
-
I hope not, will hopefully get time to get her on CC this weekend. She is a lot better round ARthur now, she does keep trying to headbut him, so defo needs to go with other cats.
-
How lovely! Another good point for her being cat friendly....Bless! :Luv2:
-
WEll, she has been here for 4 months now, she loves her fusses, but still quite wary, and she wont leave the cat room, however much I leave the door open!! The odd time she does, she stands on the landing and if I make the slightest move, she is back in. No offer of a home for her yet though.
-
I think Ellie is lovely. :) To be honest, Sage our nervy girl has a room that when she's indoors she spends most of her time in. I think it's where she feels safest, so although it's meant to be my partners chillout room it's mostly referred to as "Sages room." ;)
-
Could she go as indoor? That may open up more opportunities?
-
Bless her! she still sounds quite timid, hope that a loving home is offered soon.
-
I think indoor might already be on her write up, but would hve to check.
I have left the door to her room open overnight hte past two nights, and she has been brave enough to leave the room - can't get her back in it this morning though!! I knew she had been in the front room yesterday with the amount of toys scattered!! I also finally managed to clip her claws yesterday, she was just at the right angle for me to pin her and do them, she hated it bless her, but doesn't hold it against me for too long, I really am amazed at her trust levels.
-
Well, it took me till Thurs to get her back in the room, and then she tried to scarper when I took her food in. She let me fuss her when I went to give her her tea, but then laid looking sad in her den and wasn't interested in eating, so I left the door open, expecting her to go downstairs - wrong, she went into my room and got into the bed base, much to Molly's disgust - we had occasional growling until 2am when she was desperate enoguh to shoot past her!! She has been downstairs since, although I have been trying to coax her to eat upstairs, but she didn't have any breakfast yesterday so meals have been downstairs since - so this morning she came up looking for it!! She did come into my room a few times overnight, but Molly growls when she is in the room. I have finally been able to fuss her downstairs though, first time since Tues, so we are getting somewhere.
-
She is sooooo beautiful :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Glad you managed to finally fuss her Desley, fingers crossed xx
-
Ellie has a new den - one of my settees is under the stairs, so there is a dark space between the sofa and the stairs, and Sam knocked a cushion down there, so she is curled up against the cushion. Will take the camera downstairs later to get a pic - she is now in an ideal place, as if I sit on the sofa and put my hand down, she is all over it for a fuss (only prob is I dont like sitting on that half of the sofa!!), and she is getting braver at coming out for fusses and play. Doesn't like me much at the moment though cos I Strongholded her yesterday and she is on ab's cos her eyes were really bad last weekend. She also had a bad experience the other day, I Was trying to give her and Sam some ham, I thought he was distracted, but instead was following my hand and ended up landing on top of her. She shows no signs of wanting to go outside, even though I am opening the door about 10 times a day for Sam. Just need that patient home now
-
Had a little breakthrough with Ellie last night, managed to get her on the sofa, and she even relaxed, slept on my hand and had fusses - I think Sam is the thing drawing her though, she does crave feline company. She only stayed on for 10 mins, but it is the longest I have got her to stay on the sofa, and only the third time she has been on the sofa, so hopefully she will continue to enjoy it. She is still very skittish when I am walking though - but Molly is still like that after just 4 years of owning her, so not overly worried.
-
She sounds to be doing well and like she'd be best homed where there is another cat.
-
Yeah, she definitely needs to be with another cat, although she is a cat flu carrier. This past couple of days she has been a lot keener on him. I got up at 4 to get a drink, and just saw a shadow on the sofa (I dont put lights on at that time), and put my hand out - Ellie was sat next to Sam on the sofa, but scarpered when I put my hand out.
-
:) awww bless her! does Sam like her?
-
Not sure if Sam likes her, but he tolerates her - he is better with females than males, although did bat her round the head the first time I took him into the cat room. She has been brave two mornings following me for her breakfast rather than running away from me, and judging by the front room floor, she had a good night playing!! Nothing is where it was when I went to bed.
-
Have had a fantastic weekend with Ellie, she keeps jumping on the sofa, and last night, wanted to sit with Sam so much she jumped on the sofa and practically laid on top of him!! I was surprised he allowed it, but even when he moved, she just snuggled back into him. I will leave the big light on tonight and take my camera downstairs and see if she will do it again, and if I can get a decent pic. She comes out quite quickly when I am downstairs, although doesn't like me being too close, and will sit in the doorway while I am cooking or sorting out the cats food. I am off work this afternoon, and she came out, and immediately ran up to Sam and nuzzled him - spring is definitely in the air in this house!! Have told the rescue she has to go to a home with another cat. She still shows no interest in going out, which surprises me, as I thought she would show an interest when I am letting Sam out, but she doesn't - he just doesn't understand why he can't sit in the doorway with the door open like he is used to!!
-
Great news, Desley. Hope you get a picture. ;D
-
That's great news :) Ellie sounds to be progressing all the time, oh Sam bless him!
-
HAve had another good afternoon with Ellie and Sam - she jumped on the sofa with him and they seemed to be getting on, till i tried to move my leg to get a better look. A bit later, he was sat on my chest, and she actually jumped on my knee (I was laid on the sofa) and curled next to him, while letting me stroke her. Then she tried to lick him and he didn't like that - he jumped down, she looked at me, and then scarpered!! I have found them on the windowsill curled up together too, and she tried to pinch his tea yesterday, but she is still so wary of me walking round. I just hope someone shows an interest in her soon, but they will have to have a cat friendly cat for her.
-
Awww, Ellie sounds so lovely. :Luv: If I had more money I'd sooooo be bothering you about her.
-
she does sound lovely :Luv:
-
She is, and we had another good time last night, she came on the sofa with us again, and laid against my leg while i was fussing her - she was even a bit jumpy when Sam stretched though, bless her. When he stood up to move, she stretched up to have a nose kiss - he wasn't that impressed!!! She is getting a bit braver when I feed her, I am trying to get her to eat in the kitchen, and to not be as bothered by me moving about, and she will eat while I am standing preparing Molly's chicken, but wont stay there when I leave the kitchen.
-
Things are just getting better with Ellie, she will come on the sofa with me even when Sam isn't around, but hates me moving to even get the remote. We have had a good morning (even if it meant I had to sit there for 2 hours longer than I Wanted, cos she was happy sitting with me), and I even got 20 mins with her sat on my knee - admittedly probably cos Sam was also on my knee, but hopefully she will do that on her own. I am very impressed with how patient Sam is being with her, although he did scruff her the other day when she was cleaning him - didn't bother her, she then went on to sleep above him and curl round him!! STill trying for pics, I keep forgetting to put the camera near me.
-
She's doing so well and she does seem to like Sam lots :)
-
She does really like him - he will tolerate her sitting with him, but not keen when she tries to play with him!! Still not got any great pics though unfortunately. Just need to work on her not running away so much when I am doing things that aren't that close to her - managed to get her to stay on teh settee a few times, but she runs if I walk downstairs and she is on the windowsill, no idea why.
-
It really sounds like she'd do great with another friendly cat she can play with, hope you do manage to get some photos :)
-
Yeah, she would. WE had another really good day - I had her on my knee for an hour, she started there cos of Sam, and for the first time ever stayed after he had moved. She then joined me later, but was a bit more wary after he moved - he did lick her when she first sat in front of him, but after 10 mins or so appeared to be biting her neck and holding her with his paws - the daft part is it doesnt' bother her, she still goes back for more!! The only downside is that when she comes upstairs, she wont move away when Molly is growling and hissing at her.
-
:Luv: Ellie. What a sweetie!
