She may be a dilute tortie as cc says but I cant see the pinkish ginger that she should have, If its there but just not in the picture she is definately a dilute.  ;D

I love dilute torties and she is very pretty  ;D

I would have said more silver shaded tabby than tortie? Her coat looks very like silver shaded chinchilla coats.

Looks to me from the pic that she is a black silver tortie ticked tabby and white (or a silver tortie tabby and white for short!)

She looks like a long-haired abyssinian to me (they have a breed name, but can't remember it right now).

Title: Re: One for the experts - what colour is she?
Post by: CC & The Pussycat Guys & Dolls on September 15, 2009, 17:45:02 PM
MM I cant see any tabby anywhere, but arnt all cats meant to have a bit of tabby in them anyways  :-:

Is she a ped or a mog? Could mean a whole load of differnce if your trying to find out which shade she is  :)

I must say again she is simply stunning, is she staying with you MM?
Title: Re: One for the experts - what colour is she?

There are two types of tabby. One is the common one with stripes or spots, the other is also referred to as agouti. It means that each hair has three colour bands on it. It is also referred to as ticked tabby. This is the colour on a wild rabbit or an abyssinian cat (which is a tabby). So the whole of her coat, except the cream areas seems to be tabby.

Yes you are right cc, every single cat has a tabby gene in it and its the only thing that every cat has in common, except the obvious like eyes. ears etc lol.

Even on solid coloured cats sometimes you can see a faint M mark just above the nose when the light shines in a certain way and can see it on Ducha who of course is a birman.

Actually BC, there are 4 different tabby markings, classic, mackeral, spotted and ticked. I suppose she does look a bit like a ticked tabby

Thanks Desley - wasn't giving a dissertation, just trying to explain that a tabby doesn't need to have stripes or spots to be a tabby.

Harryand Gigga are mackeral tabbies, you can see stripes on them. In a ticked tabby you can't see any stripes, spots or classic tabby patterns.

This is Pinball's grandma who is a silver tortie ticked tabby and white, you can especially see on her legs how she doesn't have any stripes or spots on her legs but the hair is evenly ticked all the way down the hair shaft like a wild rabbit

On a shorthaired cat the ticking shows up more clearly and they look like this. Again you can see no stripes, no spots etc

I have no idea if she is meant to be a certain breed or a cross as she was a stray, so shes a posh mog to me!
No shes not for keeps, shes a rescue looking for her forever home. Even if i wanted to it would be clash of the titans when torti meets torti  :evillaugh: Lola not likey
