Where can i get a wire carrier ? (yu know the type where they can see out)
Issey really hates the carrier now so want to make her trips to the vet as stress free as poss
PAH dont do them and i dnt know where else to look ?
Cant spend too much money on it either

Would the vets not be able to loan you one? I know my vets have them but dont know if they loan, will have a look about :)

Michelle can your local CP branch lend you one - ours use them
Option 2 a smallish dog crate gives them more space and is still easey to lift in and out of the car - we have one for Oscar he gets claustraphobic in small boxes!

Oh I like their end opening restraining - we have an old rusty crush cage but it only opens at the top which I've always though was not that useful....
Maybe they will have some at Glee this month!

I love the wire cages and they are so easy to use and also keep clean :)
I gave up with plastic ones and "borrow" the CP one to take mine to the vet :evillaugh:
"Mine" is red - I fold up a thick towel to soak p any possible leakage and then have a piece of red vetbed gold on the towel. It looks great with black cats :evillaugh:
I'm sure Sharon said she orders them trough the vet and they are about £16

I got Swampy's from them and it is much less stressful than an enclosed one. They were a very nice co to deal with, I ordered on the phone and said I was in an hurry and it arrived fast. You can choose the colour too.

I have about 3 or 4 of that type. The hole spaces are bigger than the ones that were recommended earlier on in the thread. Also the handle has been known to come apart, not good with a cat inside it. It is not as well hinged as the other models either. I ordered mine thinking they were the same from the website I used, unfortunately they are not quite.
I like the idea of the ones that can nest inside one another, great for us who rescue from home. My original carrier was used for over 20 years and was the type I prefer, I gave it to someone who was having a rescue cat from us, so as far as I know it is still in use. The plastic had started to crack in places, and I moved it on to ensure good infection control and ease of cleaning.

we have one of those but not one we'd use for rescue's. We use it to transfer our 2 boys together to the vets cos if 1 goes the other has to go!! and we never use the handle but the sides to carry it! they are very big boys! lol
not one I'd recommend for rescue's for sure or if you want one that's practical as it is very large. When not in use ours makes a great storage box! lol

I have one similiar to the dome cat in ccs link but think it maybe a bit bigger and I so need a new one or two!
Its the one the birmans came in Angie and the reason its great is cos the whole end opens and thats the one I use to trap Sasa but also its the only thing I have that is big enough to allow Misa to sit up......I just hate cats being confined in a cage for a couple of hours and they cant sit up or lay down properly......Misa is a very big boy ;D

Another thumbs up for metalcote here, sturdy baskets and very helpful customer service staff.
Im not so keen on the ebay type, definately not as sturdy and a strong cat can actually bend their pokey stick!!

Our original wire basket is 30yrs old, you wont get that service out of a plastic one so definately worth investing in. :wow:

Yep, my original one is about 30 yrs old too - they are brill! I have two now - I inherited mum's when the last of her cats died, her basket must be about 20 yrs old.

I have two wire carriers, ironically when I took all 4 cats to the vets last month, i used two plastic and two wire, and the noisy cats were the ones in teh wire baskets, the two in plastic didn't make a fuss (although Sam rarely does, i think I could put him in anything). I am going to try Kizzy in the plastic one tomorrow and see if she is any quieter.

I have just seen to many clip failures to trust plastic ones - With the bar inserted, the wire ones are virtually impossible for a cat to escape + they are more hygienic. Its easy enough to cover a wire one if you want the cat to feel more secure. I wish there were a box-shaped padded cotton cover available for them, as towels never quite seem to cover them and blankets/fleeces are too big. Would be nice if they had a little slit at the top for the handles as well. Oh and they need to be breathable and made from something that can take a hot wash ;) (any offers? :evillaugh: )

I was looking for one for Bonnie a few months ago and forgot all about it as I had only seen the large ones in my local PAH and it was expensive aswell as being massive.
Bonnie's not frightened of the vet I think it's just my driving that makes her meow all the way there and back :rofl: :rofl:
That's a reasonably priced website cc - I might get one for Bonnie for Christmas. :Luv2:

Michelle, i left mine at my vets when i took Phoebe on her last visit, i just couldnt bring back an empty carrier to empty house :(
If you can arrange to pick it up i can call them on Monday, i am sure they still have it. The surgury is in Mill Lane NW6. X

The ones in the first link are the ones we use but we order them via CP both for use by the branch and also we have ordered them ourselves for our own cats as they are great . They are in the Money Makers catalogue that we use to order goods for sale so if you have a local CP branch they may be able to order one for you, I think they may be more pricey than in the link but no postage of course. They do blue and white in the catalogue.
