Title: Non Itchy Bald Patch On Cat

My old cat Leo ;) is perplexing the vets. I have brought him into a vet surgeryand had a different vet out to the house to look at him and neither prescribed a treatment that cured him. So I'm asking you all in case you have experienced this.

The bald patch is along the side of his spine about three inches long, it is whitish and it does not itch or trouble him in any way. He seems totally unaware of it. It went away at the beginning of summer and has reappeared again. I can't remember what they prescribed but I tried Advocate last week but to no avail.

Just wondered if anyone has had the same problem with their mog?

Post by: Millys Mum on August 31, 2009, 19:42:31 PM: Not all ringworm will show up so you need to sample to cover yourself, however you would think if he had the dreaded ringworm it would have popped up elsewhere on him, yourself or other pets by now

I think the vet did when he went into the surgery last time.

The other pussies are unafected even though they often sleep near him in his shed (he's an out door and they are indoor aristocats).

As I understand ring worm generally runs its own course in a matter of 6-8 weeks and the symptoms resolve on its own with or without treatment. Ring worm generally appears as spots around the head, ears, tail and feet. This is on the back for months and not spreading.

I will get a clean toothbrush and scrape the lesion and drop it into the vet to be sent off for analysis on one of my rare visits to the distant town tomorrow.

I would treat his outdoor area for fleas, if he is sensitive that will help stop him getting any visitors, the advocate will kill them but they still need to hitch a lift first

Post by: sarasara on September 01, 2009, 09:45:27 AM: Nope, the Advocate was used a couple of weeks ago in case it was fleas but has made no difference. The condition developed last year over a long period.
Today I am bringing a sample to the vets to go off to the lab. I gave the leison a good scraping with a clean tootbrush this morning which he enjoyed immensly ;) and purred away.
It could be fungal in that where I live it now rains most days of the year and we only had four dry days this summer, and he is an outdoors cat who sleeps in a straw bed in a shed.
I think if it was ringworm it would possibly have spread to me and the other cats a long time ago and would have spread to different areas of his body. As two vets have failed to diagnose and none of the Purrs so far posting have experienced it on their Mogs it maybe something unusual but we shall see.
Glad of suggestions and will certainly keep you informed of the outcome.

Post by: sarasara on September 02, 2009, 12:51:45 PM: Well the vet says 'fungal' condition and recommends as he is an outdoor cat and it is chilly outdoors in this part of the world washing the affected area every three days with a prescribed shampoo. So it's not ringworm anyway. She said that she personally would just ignore it if the cat has had it for two years and it has not spread to other parts of the body or to the other pussies and me. But I'll try the shampoo.
