A friend of mine has a cat and one day she woke up found the cat got swollen up in one night - almost changed completely to another cat. But apart from the looking the cat was still eating and drinking as normal. She was rather worried and posted the cat's photo on a local forum to seek advice and help.
At the end of the day she found out the reason - the cat climbed up to her table with tale brushed onto her aromatic burner. There was just several drops of diluted essential oils in it and the cat didn't go for it. But it inevitably ate some while cleaning the tale......So the essential oil sort of poisoned the cat .....
The cat got over it the next day as she didn't have many and the oil was diluted. But that gave her a big heart attack...
As I know aromatic products are quite common and popular here, I think it might worth mentioning to all cat owners....
Just look at the pic to see the effect :P

OMG! That is such a difference in size, glad nothing serious came from it! :Luv:

I have heard those plug-ins aren't good for cats :shify:
I have to say if it was one of my cats I would have been straight to the vet rather than posting on a forum :scared:

She's not in UK. There is not any reliable local vet in her place. That's why she did it that way :shy:

It wasnt a plug in Mark.
I cant believe the picture cos it looks like two different cats, I hope the cat is alright now
I know we moan about vets here but think we also forget that abroad the vet situation is often worse than here and because of distance it isnt alway easy to get to one.
I think 50 miles round trip is bad and transporting a very sick cat is terrifying as I found with Franta but thats what some are faced with.

True. To my knowledge about the vets situation in her country, the last thing I would do is to take my cat to the vet!!
They do nothing but grabing money from your pocket. And I know most of them are using unauthorized "tricat" vaccinations on cats. They simply don't care.

OK - no problem - I would "have kittens" if one of mine blew up like that overnight. I'm glad the cat is OK. It looks like some kind of Analytic shock which can be fatal :scared:

I would too Mark, I would be terrified
-
That's very scarey, do hope poor kitty is ok now! :(

The cat recovered herself - it was the smell on her tail told the owner the story :shy:
-
that's good to hear :)
-
How are plug ins bad for cats, Mark? I've never heard that.
-
Probably for the same reasons - a lot of them contain essential oils which contain phenols. I think there may be other issues such as the smell being too strong for cats.
