Title: Feeling guilty about the cats because of the twins
Post by: MrsR on August 25, 2009, 21:08:57 PM
The cats have really had to take a back seat for the last 3 months because of the twins.   Please don't grill me and put me in the sticks about this but with the twin girls I haven't had enough hours ion the day to deal with them let alone anything else.   Only now am I starting to get more time and thats going on my cats but I am so wracked with guilt and finding it tough, especially as Bunty is, well, some of you have seen my post regarding her on Health & Behaviour.  :'(

 On of my friends has twins and a two year old boy (who was one when the twins arrived), and two cats.  She felt terrible when the twins arrived as the cats had to take a back seat, but now they have all settled into a routine she is able to spend more time with the cats in the evening and they have all settled down together.

Her two year old sits cuddling the cats and keeps telling her they are his best friends :Luv: One of them is a bit "scratchy" but her son has alreaday learned when to leave him alone, and the twins are learning too.

Thanks hun.

Misha and Bunty will sit in with me and the twins, Poppy doesn't and still steers clear and Elvis sits on the outside looking in which is better than she was.

Am sure in time they will all come round and learn that the girls aren't so scary after all! Just caught up with what is happening with Bunty - pleased that she is keeping you and the twins company, you can top up her cuddles and know you're doing your best for her.  Suppose on the plus side although it probably doesn't feel like it, you're probably spending more time with them than if you were working...

Ahhh hun don't beat yourelf up .... cats are NOT daft ... all animals recongnise babies of any species and they also know that Mummy's have to spend time with babies.

Your furrie purries might be taking a back seat but they know they are still loved .... you haven't stopped feeding them, or put them out in the cold you've just diverted a bit of your time away from them .... I'm sure they understand.

It takes time for everything to adapt into a routine. It'll all be fine, don't worry Nikki.

I'm afraid all mine take a back seat with everything else going on here. Days go by and I realise I haven't actually fussed them.

Total guilt trip but they are all fed, watered, safe and to be honest the ones left are not really lap cats or at least have adapted to not being lap cats now.

I even feel guilty when i am working!
