It's me again. Memphs hasn't had any more coughing incidents or produced any hairballs. Which is all good I guess.
When I woke up he was all over me being all affectionate. One thing I couldn't help but notice was a very strong, very pungent odour coming from him. I thought it was coming from his bottom, but nope it's coming from his front end. It's a very sickly sweet smell with a hint of something rotting. I'm thinking ear infection, but he's not displaying any signs of something being wrong. His ears look clean and normal. He's not been shaking his head either. Plus it suddenly started today. I've hardly seen him today so when I did this evening I gave him a good sniff and the smell is there but no where near as strong this morning.
Sooo is this a normal cat thing or do we think medical, therefore vet trip? He has the vets next month and he really hates them so I try to limit them unless absolutely necessary with him. He seems well enough in himself.

Could be a rotting tooth, they get really bad breath when they have bad teeth, it just sort of lingers all over them, vet trip probably needed.
-
Is it coming from his mouth? - bad tooth maybe?
-
Ooh snap Daisy LOL! :evillaugh:
-
His breath is rather ripe  give me a moment to find him, catch him and have a looksy - thank you for the quick replies.
-
Well that was really quick and easy :evillaugh: he says everyone who mentioned it was his teeth owes him a dreamies treat.
His teeth are fine. He's got a bit of plaque/tartar build up but nothing rotten. His gums look pink and healthy. His breath does pong but it's a different odour to the one I'm smelling.

Could he of eaten somthing he found?

No CC. He's strictly indoor and there's nothing around the house which he could have found/eaten.
-
not a smell of peardrops, I hope :shify:
-
What does that actually mean trigger, I know it means something but cant remember :evillaugh:
-
No not pear drops. Smellivision would really help here LOL. I just had a whiff of him and it's definitely no where near as strong as this morning. The best I can describe it as is - flowery. More the middle of a flower where the pollen is. But it's a very sickly smell - well to me anyway.
And there are no flowers in the house!

high sugar

Hes indoor, his bum is ok, his mouth is ok and ears clean. Could he have knocked something over and got that on him, strange that the smell is fading!
I went for an interview where a VN was sniffing a urine sample and decided not to run it :shify: id be mad if my cat was diagnosed by a nurse sniffing wee
-
Bad breath is usually teeth, it could be an area you can't see maybe? or could be many other disorders so best to just get the vet to check

Off topic: Tibetan doctors diagnose that way (useless fact of the day?).
On topic... I can't imagine the scent, Den: I can only suggest to smell what it's like in the morning

I can see every part of his mouth. He's really, really good with me, as such I got a great look. There is noooo way he will let a vet look in his mouth or ears without being sedated :( even then I think they play rock, paper scissors to see who's the unlucky one that has to do the sedation. I'm trying to think of things he could knock over but Im not having much luck. Oddly he smells the strongest behind his left ear.
But he doesn't smell nice
He's going to hate me ... So are his vets :scared:

Didn't doctors used to taste wee to test for Diabetes?

Well he's back to being gorgeous smelling today :scared: It is a complete mystery as to why he was smelly yesterday. Weird!!
-
:shify: very strange indeedy, so long as he's back to normal that's the main thing :)
