i took molly to that obesity clinic this evening the vet was in shock over how round she was
molly needs to lose 1kg so now shes going on a diet .
-
Good luck with her - they have warned you not to reduce her food too much, havent they? AT least you are dealing with it while she is only 1kg overweight, and not alllowing it to get worse.
-
yes, Desley is right, you can't put cats on these 'size zero' human diets - has the vet given you a food and exercise regime for Molly?
-
they said try given her smaller portions and making her exercise more by playing with her with toys that move and make her chase them lol she dont chase nothing or no one thou lol
im not going to cut out loads of her food or nothing like that
the vet said she was very over weight
but i dont think shes that bad .

Sounds like good solid advice - few more tips, most cats cant resist lazer pens (although none of my oldies have liked them!!). Every cat I have had has had their own favourite toy, something they will always play with, it is just a case of finding it, and some of them haven't been true cat toys. Another one I like is making them 'work' for their food - some people say to hide their dry food to make them hunt, but none of mine have gone for that idea, so what I do instead is only give them wet for brekkie and tea, nothing left down all the time, and then at supper time, I either throw their dry food (counted or weighed out) a piece at a time, or, depending on the other cats in the house, scatter their full amount over one room, and make them have to wander round the room - I have just done that with Lucy, and I gave her three 'treats' (really Hills hairball food!!) thrown individually to make her wander more. With Tom, I used to leave his dry food upstairs, go up to get it, so he would run up behind me, then throw his allowance over the banister (open plan front room), so he would run back down stairs to go and find them!! Does she go outside? Admittedly 1kg doesn't sound too bad, but it does depend on each cat - Ginger was only 1kg overweight, my neighbour couldn't see anything wrong with him, yet I could.

I use to have a lazer pen that i use to play with them with
but molly was never intrested in it
my oh said she looks fat coz shes quite a short cat if she was longer maybe she wouldnt
she weighs 5 and a half kgs
i expected her to be 6
and oh thought she would b 7 lol
-
Ah, well if she is a short cat, then she will look worse, and it will be more important to keep on top of her weight, as it does have health issues. Good luck!!
-
yea thanks

Well, your vet knows best but she looks great from here!
-
awwww :thankyou:

Desley, continuing the food-hunting thing, have you seen those plastic balls that you can put dried food inside? The cat is supposed to chase the ball until the munchie falls out. Mine have never fallen for it. They'd rather chase eachother!
I've always loved the 'fishing rod' style of toy. I can sit on the sofa and flick it from side to side while the cats go bonkers chasing it. I don't have to move. I hate ping pong balls, cos I get as much exercise as the cats and am forever fishing them from under furniture.

Here here. Beautiful cat.

:thankyou:

Oooh, what a pretty young lady :Luv: Are you going to enter her in the cat show?
-
when is the cat show
i got 5 pretty young ladies to enter
and 2 handsome young devils lol

She doesn't look too bad on that pic, but it could be deceiving cos she is lying down and it is quite small - if a vet has said it going off the look and feel of her, then I would go with his opinion over ours.
Hippy - yep, got one of those too, but struggling to find treats that wont fall out too easily, the cats didn't like what it actually came with!! I prefer the fishing rod toys, I think I got nearly as much exercise as Lucy tonight retrieving balls and toys cos she sat looking at them!!
