Title: Why are people so thoughtless. - RIP Lucy
Post by: Mark on August 14, 2009, 11:13:53 AM
Sharon got a call yesterday from a man who we had previously homed a cat to his 92 year old aunt. He had promised to give the cat flea treatments etc. Apparently,  he needed help as his mother had gone into hospital and unlikely to come back out. The poor cat is all alone and he is just going in to feed - it also has a flea allergy and needed treatment last week  :tired: - When asked how long she had been in hospital........Since January!  >:(

Obviously This poor baby is going to have to be a top priority.

Originally the cat had been saved from PTS so it was a good thing that this lady offered her a home. She is 15.

I fear its another case of someone thinking he was actually doing a good job going and feeding the cat - so many people still have the outdated idea that cats are self sufficient and can care entirely for themselves.  I suppose at least this cat was safe from the road, in a familiar environment.

Poor, lonely little cat  :(

We've just been away for a few days, but made sure friends of ours (and the cats!) came in to care for them regularly.  It was great, when we came back, to have our friends pop in to return the keys and to see both Chloe and Mr T come running to be fussed by them.  They have a lovely nearly 3 year old, who is being taught to be good with the cats.  The cats clearly adore him which I think is fantastic.  One little lad who is going to grow up knowing how to look after his pets, when he is old enough to have them.  He was sitting quietly on the floor, arm round Mr T, telling him "secrets"  :Luv:

That said, for the first couple of days after we were home, both cats hardly left our sides - in case we "disappeared" again.

I wish the cat in question a good life with a new, caring home  :)

Thanks but she was originally one of ours so Sharon said we will take her back. I think the Cinnamon trust get overwhelmed with people wanting them to take cats as well  :(

This puss cat called Lucy will hopefully come intoour care next week.. But the nephew of the lady has tried to help but i do remember that we did want to make sure the cat was looked after if the lady went away or died and he agreed. But something has now changed and he cannot.. Lucy has an ongoing flea allergy problem and they ahve treated it but i think the stress of her being on her own all the time with only a brief time for compnay has made it worse then normal. when Lucy was first adopted the older lady said it went away completely.. So lets hope that its not that bad and another lovely person comes along to give her a retirmeent home.. We put her around 12 to 15 i would say now..

Sharon told me the other day that Lucy was getting worse and wasn't responding to any treatments and was also suffering more as she was scratching her sores open. She was referred to CP HQ vet but nothing helped. Sadly she had to be PTS

It is very sad  :'(

I suppose the risk of infection is really high if she was on steroids for the allergy?

I am doing a homecheck this week for a very elderly man so although I don't think people should be denied the company of a cat, I will really have to cross-examine him re contingency plans etc (as well as him being able to do day-to-day care properly)
