On another forum I visit a rescuer has found a blind that appears blind wanding in the middle of the road. She's a lovely lady but way out of her league and is panicking slightly. Doesn't know what to feed the kitten. She's putting her in a dog crate for the night but need urgent help and advise. Local CP has closed at 3pm she said.
Can anyone talk to this lady or offer a space? I don't think this kitten is completely blind from what she said but obvious sight problems needs investigating.
-
OMG poor little thing, i cant offer any advice but do hope this little one is okay and if no-one can help i can always make a space for this little one,im in M ansfield
-
I now hear kitten has severe trots. Not looking good, is it? :tired: This lady hasn't got a clue. :(
She's going to try CP again tomorrow so keep your fingers crossed they can deal. :wish:
-
Poor little mite, im keeping everything crossed for this little one, do hope its not going to be another sad ending :scared:
-
Do hope the CP can help.
-
Well.. :innocent:
A purrs member PMd me this morning and various arrangements have been made. The purrs member takes delivery this afternoon. I won't say who in case the person wishes to remain anonymous, but we would all be happy if we knew who it was. :shoosh:
-
how fantastic - any Purrs member stepping in to help this poor little scrap has to be good news, whoever he or she is ;D
-
My sentiments exactly, well done whoever you are ;D hope you can sort the little one out
-
Great news, well done and thank you to our secret saviour!
-
Excellent news ... Purrs to the rescue again :)
-
Hurrah! I want to know who the utter star is! ;)
-
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
I know something you lot don't know! I know who it is! :cheeky:
I am promised an update later... or possibly the mystery hero/heroes may step forward and confess? Depends if they want to I suppose. :Dont know:
-
Come on mysterious hero..... ;)
Julie, shame on you for gloating! :evillaugh:
-
Hi
The blind kitten is now at Paws Inn and I can confirm that :-
1. Kitten is infact at least a 15 years old female
2. We think she is in kidney failure and has possible thyroid problems
3. Looks like she has glaucoma
4. She has worn a collar previously but is not microchipped
I am sure Teresa will give you an update later on as she decided what is needed next.
She is happy in a pen for now and tucking into some food with a turkey treat.
Cx
-
Oh, god love her...! :Flowers:
I suspected that the lady that found her didn't know the first thing about cats, so I wasn't wrong there. :innocent:
Good luck my princess... Aunty T will look after you nicely now and you won't be hungry anymore. :ahh:
Thank you so much T.... I'm off for a little cry now. :-[
-
Poor little girl :( im so glad she is no longer roaming the streets looking for help, im sure she will recieve the very best at Paws Inn, thank god that lady found her even if she didnt know the difference between a kitten and oldie, i dread to think what would have happened to her if she hadnt :scared: her little face in the last picture tugs the heart strings :Luv2:
-
Oh how fabulous ... She will be safe and well looked after at Paws Inn. Well done T for helping this little lady. Even though the lady who rescued her obviusly didn't know much about cats she DID at least stop and help which is more than can be said for many others ... so, well done her as well.
-
Oh the poor love, lots and lots of vibes coming from us.
Well done Aunty T
-
For the record, the lady that found her and intially asked for help was an extremely nice and caring woman who helps animal rescues regularly... but cats aren't her speciality and I think she would admit that herself. ;) :)
-
So pleased this poor girl is now safe and sound .
Well done to all involved
-
it's like Truman all over again
poor kitty, but so lucky to find herself in your care, Teresa
-
That's one skinny cat....doesn't mean she's not lovely though. ;)
At least if she does have serious health problems she's in a place where people will know what to do.
Teresa, (and Claire) - you guys are wonderful!! :Luv:
-
Poor darling, reminds me of our tabby Martha (RIP) - we used to call her 'Boney M' when we first had her. :)
Pleased she is safe & sound and tucking into Sunday lunch, bless her.
-
it's like Truman all over again
I thought the same, hoping that this story has a happy ending too. Now she's with Teresa there's every chance it will
-
We have called this delightful little lady Grace, she is in a bad way just passed blood y diarhoea, will get her vet checked tomorrow and see what we can to to make her more comfortable, she is an absolute darling and I am delighted that she is old,far better to be old and blind than a blind baby if you know what I mean.
The lady who brought her was lovely and knowledgeable to her own species of rescue, having talked she thinks the car she saw may have actually dumped Grace. Thank God for good people like her.
Julie I hope your little cry was tears of joy
-
I'm sure our late Miss Gracie will watch over this little lady
Now safe with T and the Paws Inn Crew where she will be treasured for however long :Luv2:
-
Thank God for good people like her.
Well, thank goodness for you, Teresa and Claire.
I'm crying now too.
-
O, I'm so pleased with this happy ending, (for now at least)
If you mistake such an old lady for a kitten, you must be pretty ignorant :)
The poor cat, she must have been so scared!
-
Aw bless her, she is such a babe and I am so happy that she is in the bestest hands (and feet! ;)) with our Aunty T! :Luv:
Well Done to all concerned for helping this lovely lady out!
Positive vibes being sent for her vet visit tomorrow~~~~Best of Luck! :Luv:
-
awwww, bless the little love :(
well done Claire and Teresa for caring for her when she so needs it
-
Aw... Aunty T! :cuddle: :cuddle:
I know what you mean about rather be an old dear and blind than be a baby and blind. ;)
Whatever happens and whatever time Grace has left will be comfy ones, though. That's why I was crying... it could all have so so different but for a string of remarkable coincidences and it feels good to be have been a link in the chain that got Grace to safety.
Aw... I'm off again. Pass the Kleenex. :-[ :evillaugh:
-
Bless you guys, Grace is now in the very safest of hands, hope she has some good quality time at the Inn  :Luv2:
-
Oh Grace, you have the best possible Mummy now, she will look after you xxx
-
I hope Grace had a good night and the vet visit goes well today. Sending her lots of love.
-
Grace is simply adorable, been to vets this morning and Andy is going to ring later with results, testing for kidneys, diabetes and thyroid, she hasn't a single tooth in her mouth and Andy estimates 20 years old, catarracts on both eyes and blind. He has given me some kaolin to help will her tummy and prescribed thyroid meds in anticipation; will update when I have results.
Meanwhile Grace the gannet is happily tucking into a late breakfast as she was starved in anticipation of bloods being required.
-
poor Grace, 20!!! how can somebody not be missing her, unless her owner has died poor thing and she has become a burden to the family - glad she is safe with you teresa
-
I have to say she's a carbon copy of dear Teddy (RIP). I scooped him up from a bunch of ferals and he was in a similar state. He wasn't feral but the ferals took pity on him and let him hang out with them. :) Poor Teddy had such bad teeth you could smell him if he stood at your feet. We never did find who he belonged to... but can't say I tried very hard as they clearly hadn't taken him to a vet for years. :innocent: Estimates of Teddy's age went up and up and up with each vet visit. :evillaugh: We made him comfy despite liver failure and he went to live with Caroline. It was his love of food that stopped Teddy from giving up for so long... Caroline even found him inside her fridge sitting on the shelf gumming the hell out of a cooked beef joint. Teddy had 9 very happy final months with Caroline before he went to the bridge and we always remember him with a smile of pride that we could do that for him. :Luv:
Dear Grace sounds and even looks the same as Teddy. I do hope she has at least some quality time before she passes and I know Teresa will try her best to get that to happen.  :blow kiss:
-
Glad Gracey is doing alright, despite her advancing years.
-
Andy just phoned with results
Liver and Kidneys only slightly raised- good sign
Glucose so so unlikely to have diabetes probs
Thyroid sky high so will start her on medication straight away and hopefully this little flower will bloom again.
-
She looks so similar to Rosie, bless her. I am glad she is safe and responds well to the thyroid meds
-
she thinks the car she saw may have actually dumped Grace.
How can anyone abandon a blind, poorly old cat to fend for herself die in the road? Now that she's safe, I hope Grace responds quickly to her thyroid medication.
-
Oh dear, just read this thread here at work, and wish I had waited until I got home.
How horrible must someone be to abandon poor Grace?! :'(
Thank goodness you have her Teresa. Poor little girl
-
Pretty good results for a 20 year old cat - go Grace.
-
Oh Wow! So glad that nothing major has popped up in her tests! She is lovely T (yes Des a much thinner Rosie! :Luv:) and Im sure in your care she will bloom! ;) :Luv:
People will never cease to amaze me, I cant sleep of a night worrying about other peoples babes never mind my own, to abandon a 20yr old when she is needing help the most is so callous! Karma~~~~~~~10 fold! >:(
-
having talked she thinks the car she saw may have actually dumped Grace.
That is just beyond belief >:( why would someone do that? I just don't understand it :(
So glad you have her now T, and its good to hear that with the medication she will likely blossom :Luv2:
-
What such nice news that Grace is in with a chance second flowering! :blow kiss:
Go, Grace!!! :Flowers:
And not forgetting Aunty T! :best 2:
-
And not forgetting Aunty T! :best 2:
Ain't that the truth? :Luv:
-
Thinking of the lovely Grace today and hope she goes from strength to strength! :Luv:
-
Just popped in to see how Grace is doing today, hope she is still doing well
-
Just caught up with the beautiful Grace's story. She is truly beautiful, bless her.
I just want to reach out and touch her. To think of the poor soul, being dumped and lost, in her condition. I can't stop crying either.
Am glad she's found safe shelter, and thank goodness the lady who took her in cared enough to seek help, regardless of the age she thought this little waif was.
-
Just caught up with this too
What a sad story but so pleased that Gracie is now safe
 hugs from me
-
Quick update, Grace has settled well and her tummy problems are almost resolved now we have her feeding carefully controlled, she is still ravenous all the time but that is normal for a cat with thyroid issues as bad as hers, once the meds kick in she will feel less hungry.
Lady who found her has been really good knocking on doors and doing posters but so far no response.
-
I am so pleased she is doing well, she should start to feel much better soon, shame you can't find an owner poor little soul makes you wonder where has she came from :( do give her a big hug from me please Teresa
-

Janey I have a confession to make, despite having so many cats here I was envious of you having Pepper, I so love the golden oldies and somehow Pepper made me miss old Buster more than ever so in a way Grace is a blessing, I will pass on your hugs  and send some to Pepper.
-
Older cats are lovely...I have a lot of young uns here myself but like to have an oldie...Hence my Teddie whose 18! ;D
So glad she is getting on so well....Hope her meds calm her thyroid down soon! ;) :Luv:
-
Just tiptoing in to give a gentle early morning snuzzle to the gentle Grace.
-
Just tiptoing in to give a gentle early morning snuzzle to the gentle Grace.
The gentle Grace was tucking into her breakfast like a ravenous wolf at 5 this morning, will be so glad when meds start to kick in as although her tummy is better than it was her poops still leave much to be desired while shes eating so quickly.
-
Poor little lass.  So hope the meds will start to show signs of improvement really soon.
(And I assume as Grace was up at 5 tucking into her food, you were up too...? :cuddle: Well, hope you get five mins on Buster's Bench at some point :Luv: )
-

awwww  I too have a confession to make T when I saw Grace I wanted her aswell :shy: I don't know what it is with me and oldies I just want to help them all. Grace will be very special to you as you will be to her
Hope her thyroid is soon under control too, she sounds just like Pepper munching all day :)

What Sue said
-
I would love Grace too, but sadly not a option. I should just stop looking at threads iwth oldies, there have been quite a few I would have loved this year
Glad Grace is doing better.
-
Well, couldn't start the day off without popping by to give Grace a little ear rub from me and a enquiring "ppprrrrppp?" from Paddy. :cat rub:
-
Am watching Grace like a hawk as shes only eaten half a sachet for breakfast, maybe its the thyroid meds kicking in but it does seem a little soon.
Sue ear rubs and pprrrppp from Paddy given and appreciated and Grace sends him
-
Sending positive vibes that although quick it still hopefully is the med kicking in, I do think if the prob is a high one then the meds do start to act a little quicker! ;) :Luv:
Best wishes for darling Grace! :wish:
-
Have only just picked up on this thread. Gosh! It is indeed just like Truman over again. Just looking at her little face fair makes me tear up. God bless the woman who found her, she might not have known an oldie from a youngie but she knew Grace needed help and cared enough to find it for her and thats what matters. Grace is the perfect name for her I think, lovely. It beggers belief that anyone could abandon an old, helpless animal like this. I think about that often with Truman, too, wondering where he came from. One thing I do know is that it was their loss. Every night when Truman is sitting on my chest purring while I read my book in bed I think how lucky I am. Good for you, Teresa, taking her in.
-
Morning Grace. Paddy sends you a gentle purrrr this morning. Hope that gnawing hunger sensation is subsiding :care:
-
Grace is eating well but she is getting fussy, she prefers dry food now and will try to turn her nose up at the wet. Shes still a bag of bones and has a long way to go but at least shes comfortable.
-
:Luv: Each day as it comes....
-
Bless her - dry will help her put weight on though, so might not be a bad thing.
-
:wow: It's a good sign when they begin to get fussy. :naughty:
That's it Grace... you give Aunty T some stick. :evillaugh:
-
Bless her - dry will help her put weight on though, so might not be a bad thing.
Just what I was about to put - good job I reread the thread! :shy: Grace sounds lovely.
-
Must be the meds then! ;D
So glad she is okay..... ;) :Luv:
-
So glad to hear Grace is doing well
-
First proper solid poop from Grace today, another step forward.
-
Hey - proper poop dance! :cheer: :cheer:     :cheer: :cheer:
-
Im so glad to hear that Grace is doing well ;Dlong may it continue
-
 ooooh fabby-do that's good news, tablets must be working ;D
-
Morning Grace. Paddy says he's so pleased to hear you're "onna mend" and he wonders if you sing.......? He says him and Lexy likes a little croon, and he wonders if you do too? ;D
-
Glad she is doing well.
-
After making me think she was dead yesterday I have decided that Grace is far too comfy in her new plush bed  she sleeps like a baby with an inbuilt alarm that tells her its food time
uses her tray and then gently retires to her cosy bed, Singing Sue ? lazy madam prefers to listen to classical fm in order to save her strength  Another good poop this morning so medication definately kicking in, she is down to 2 pouches, 2 dishes dry and 2 huge bowls of water a day now, wish I knew where she was putting it because shes skeletal.
-
 bless her, I too have a little piggy eating for England :evillaugh:
-
They must be the new breed of hollow boned cats! :evillaugh:
So glad that Amazing Grace is doing wonderfully! :Luv:
-
Bless the little darling :Luv: she must be so happy to have a nice soft bed and a plentiful supply of yummy food plus oodles of TLC, long may she continue to enjoy :Luv:
-
Please Aunty T, when you get time to draw breath, please may we have another piccy of dear Grace in her comfy bed? :naughty: :pic: :summer flowers:
-
Please Aunty T, when you get time to draw breath, please may we have another piccy of dear Grace in her comfy bed? :naughty: :pic: :summer flowers:
Oooo - nice one Julie. I wanted to ask too, but I'm always demanding piccies from Aunty T and understandably she might get fed up with my importunate demands! :evillaugh:
-
Will try and find a minute later today
-
Good to hear the meds are kicking in  - do the vets have any idea now what was causing the yukky poos T?
-
Just been reading Lesley's thread about the two golden oldies she was looking for a home for, and I found myself thinking over and over again, thank God Grace found somewhere. It's not possible to help them all, but sending Grace an extra special snuzzle from me and Pad.
-
I found myself thinking over and over again, thank God Grace found somewhere.
Don't thank anything supernatural, thank Teresa.
I originally wrote something much harsher, but out of respect to Teresa I have restrained myself. It is indeed more than good that Grace is with Teresa
-
Teresa is God in my book. ;) :Luv:
-
Teresa is God in my book. ;) :Luv:
I can go with that.
-
Sorry Sue and Christine you are both wrong, I`m just an ordinary old bag who often happens to be in the right place at the right time.
I will admit that my faith is at a very low ebb at present, think its only the cats keeping my belief going at present.
-
I`m just an ordinary old bag who often happens to be in the right place at the right time.
Yep, I reckon so . Some of us try to back you up, from time to time  but we know who stands at the sharp end
-
I will admit that my faith is at a very low ebb at present, think its only the cats keeping my belief going at present.
As an atheist, one thing I can't help you with is that.
-
I am in the Big Bang Theory gang, My heart tells me there is a god but my brain just wont go there!
I do have a soft spot for a lovely parable though and I send it to you T! :Luv:
"Foot Steps" :Luv:
:shy:
-
I have that piece and hold it dear to my heart, so very true
-
OMG! I feel really embarrased now as I thought it was "Footprints" then googled to have a read and it said steps and prints.... Whatever the name T as long as I know that you know the meaning is all I wanna say! :Luv:
-
Ruth
Its titled Footprints in the sand
-
Ruth
Its titled Footprints in the sand
Thank you for that T.... So many titles on the net but as long as there's one meaning thats fine with me! ;) :Luv:
-
Ruth the general message is that God is always here for us and helps us through our lowest times whether we realise it or not; I hadnt thought about that piece for a while and believe me it has helped
-
Not especially religious myself either, but love the prayer of serenity.
Teresa, you are much more than "an old bag." What you do is exceptional and you should never underestimate how much of a difference you're making in this world. You are one of the rescue members on this site I have a massive respect for.
Glad Grace is improving. :)
-
Never read 'footprints' before, it is very comforting, I'll remember that thanks
-
Only just cught up on the latest news on Grace :Luv2: So pleased she is now doing proper poos and is obviously comfy in her new home. Teresa you are a a true superstar :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
I love this thread for the title alone - 'Blind Kitten in Trouble' indeed
'Old Girl Doing Very Nicely' would be much more appropriate :Luv:
-
I am glad her tum has settled, bless her.
-
Find attached a picture of the lovely Grace in her comfy bed!

A quick update on Grace who has not been doing so well the last few days:
Took her to see Andy vet this morning as she had refused all food for over 24hours and hasnt washed herself since she arrived, shes been drinking huge amounts of water though. Andy has told me to stop the thyroid meds (vidalta) for a few days (fortunately I stopped it yesterday) he has given her a steroid and vitamin injection in a bid to get her to eat even though it will not do her thyroid any good,if we can get her appetite back by Friday she will go onto Felimazole instead of vidalta,if no improvement by Friday we must let her go. He said he feels she was just too far gone when we got her and was at the stage where people with owned cats brought them in for PTS, however if we can get her eating we may buy her a few more weeks. Bought her a cooked chicken and she has eaten a little of that so we remain hopeful that this gorgeous lady will enjoy her bed for a while longer.
-
:( aww Teresa I'm so sorry to read this. I think the route you have taken is the best and she is very lucky to have found you because if anyone can help you can, lets just hope that the steroid helps too
-
I'm sorry to hear this but know you'll do whatever is right for Grace.
-
One thing's for sure, thanks to the care she's had from you, her end won't be filled with despair, as it might so easily have been. When I look at her picture, I think of Grizabella from Cats.
Memory, all alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
It was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
-
Oh Teresa, what sad news. I do hope Grace fights on, but I know if she feels it's time you'll let her go with dignity. Sue, she does have a Grizabella look about her. :Luv:
-
Grace and I have 2 things in common, we are both skin and bone and both fighters.
-
Fingers crossed she picks up
-
I hope she improves too Teresa  Come on Grace you can do it :Luv2:
-
Really hoping Grace picks up and has more time to be happy and loved
-
Fingers crossed for her.
-
Grace emptied her large water bowl yet again overnight and has drunk approx 100mls of water in 1 go this morning, she has refused all cat food so I shredded chicken and mixed with boiled water to warm, she took all the liquid but left the chicken and went back to sleep. I am so hoping the lack of Vidalta and the steroid kicks in soon, she is such a dear old girl and to see her like this is heartbreaking.
-
Sending Grace some early morning hugs and the hope that she'll feel more like eating something a little later.
-
hope Grace is a little better today
-
Come on Grace sweetie, eat some yummy food :Luv2:
-
I do hope that the steroid boosts the poor old girl's appetite very soon
-
Positive vibes for darling Grace T~~~~~~I do hope the change med wise can sort her out! :wish: :care: :grouphug:
-
  It's always upsetting to see them fade like that. :'( But I am still glad to know she's with you, Teresa, as her final days will be comfy ones surrounded by love. :Luv:
We are only loaned them for a short time, and then they have to go back to Heaven. :(
-
Sending a gentle ear rub for Grace today, and Pad adds a whiskery "PPPrrffPPtttt"
-
Lots of love to sweet little Grace this morning :blow kiss:
-
Poot also sends Grace one of his newly learned chirrupy meows for good measure  :Luv2:
-
Lets hope Grace has perked up :Luv2:
-
My hopes and thoughts are with Grace and yourself today T! :Luv:
-
Sending gentle ear rubs to Grace. :catlove2:
-
Grace is at peace now, sometimes no matter how hard we try its just not enough, she was gently PTS at 9.20 this morning.
Sue stealing your lovely quote because it seems so right for Grace.
Memory, all alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
It was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
-
I'm so sorry this lovely little one didn't make it.
At least she knew love at the end.
-
I am so sorry to hear this, lovely Grace at least she knew comfort at her end

:'( :'(
so sorry Teresa you did all you could for her and gave her the love and care she needed when she was all alone

RIP Darling Grace, play hard at the Bridge sweetheart x
You did her proud T, you showed her that life could be good and that she learned and felt from you!
-
I am so sorry, Teresa, but thanks to you Grace did not die alone and scared.
-
I`m not usually one for tears but Grace has broken me, I asked Andy what her thyroid levels were when we got her he said off the scale so over 90 ! She deserved so much better and I find myself wondering how long she lived a life of suffering before she was picked up; how many thousands of others are going through hell now, none of them deserve it.
-
I'm so sorry Teresa. Grace had you when she needed you the most and that should count for something.
I'm glad she had you to show her love before she went.
RIP, Grace.
-
RIP Grace :'(
You saved her from a fate worse than death T
-
Oh no :'(
I'm so sorry T
Bless you for trying, and for making her final days be filled with love, care, affection, and cuddles.
RIP Grace, play on the bridge darling girl and go find our other bridge babes to play with xxxx
-
 Grace went to the Bridge safe, warm, loved and with food in her tummy - none of that would have happened without you or the kind lady that found her
RIP Grace xx
-
I am beyond words. I'm so sorry, Teresa.
Sweet, gentle Grace. xxx
-
Didn't want to hear this news so put off checking until 2pm today and the tears came. I'm so very sorry Teresa. As others have said you showed her love and comfort in her final days and it really does count for so much    RIP Grace :'(
-
T you let Grace go with dignity and someone who loved her if only for a short time she will live on in your heart and here at Purrs somehow they all seem to be part of our cyber lives forever
-
RIP Grace :'(
-
:'(
Free from all the sorrow now, Grace. Restored to fulll health and playing on the Bridge :)
Teresa, thank you so much for all you did for her. She was a lucky puss in the end and passed on surrounded by love.
:blow kiss: :candle:
