Hi everyone, my cat is overweight ad its time I did something about it :) I have tried all the other things, cut back on his food, but nothing is working. So I think this will be the next step. I did ask about it at the vets and they recommened it. I am not going to buy it from the vet though, as its more expensive. Just wondered if anyone else has tried it and got good results. For now I am only going to purchase the dry food and see how I get on. Am I ok to still feed my little one a bit of normal wet food too? Will I still get results? I dont want to go in and buy both because its very expensive and my cat can be fussy, and dont want it going to waste! But if i cut wet food out completly not sure he will be very happy! 8)

you will get a lot of different opinions on this one so get ready!!!!! but all I will say is that I have had good results with Star on the royal canin light dry

I tried R/D with Kylie and sorry to be graphic but it is high fibre. All it resulted in in poos that looked like a dog had done them and stank to high heaven :evillaugh: - no weight loss though. I tried RC but she wouldn't eat it. I personally think a grain-free food is better for weight loss such as Orijen.

I wouldnt feed only dry, and especially not if you want your cat to loose weight. Dry is carb heavy, even the so called weight loss brands. I'd feed her a high meat content wet food with no grains, cereals or veggies, such as Hi Life, Bozita, Forthglade, Nature's Harvest. Applaws wet is also pretty good (although does contain some rice and is not complete). If you want to feed some dry, go for one that has no/low carbs such as Applaws dry or Orijen dry.

my ollie was on the rd for a while with no positive effect.
we switched her to bozita wet which she MUCH prefers and instituted a required 20 minute "da bird" session every night. and she is just like a totally new cat! she has lost almost a kilo!
because the bozita is less calorie dense she feels like she has a "full tummy" which means she is not begging for treats and the low carbs and increased excersize reduces the ammount of excess energy converting to fat.

Thanks for those replies. I dont really know much about helping a cat lose weight. I think ill give the other suggestions a try. Are brands such as applaws, orijen, bozita etc best bought online? Are they availiable at pet shops etc? I have never seen them before!
My other cat is very small. If anything she could do with gaining a little bit of weight. So are these suggestions best only fed to my overweight cat? Thanks :)

Your best weapon for weight loss is the da bird toy, its available from the purrs shop ;D
Online is the best place to find offers on good quality wetfood, you will find some petshops with bozita and applaws in tho

I have to say being a first time cat owner the whole food thing is a minefiled! Especially having 2 cats with different needs. Jack is in need of loosing a bit of weight, and Poppy is not.
Poppy is so fussy have tried her on a lot of foods but she usually just eats the jelly. I tried her on hi life just now and she ate it all :wow:
Are the high life pouches 60% real meat a complete food? If these were fed with a small amount of complete dry food such as applaws is this a good combination? Will this also help with Jacks weight problem? I cant risk Poppy loosing any weight though as she is very small already. Just trying to find a good combo really! Its confusing!

Yes they are complete. :) and yes, that sounds like a good combo. It certainly should help Jack lose some weight, along with more exercise. Good to hear that Poppy liked the Hi Life - you could maybe give her extra rations?

I have to say its very confusing. From looking on the internet, some people say its complete others say its complimentary. I bought 2 pouches on their own yesterday and it says complete food on the pouch! What about the hilife essentials? What other high meat content wet foods are out there that are complete?
Also I was just wondering, as people have said about helping Jack lose weight by a dry food such as applaws, orijen etc because it contains no cereals or grains. Is this type of food better generally anyway, for normal cats too. Or is it just handy in helping cats who are overweight?

I just checked. Essentials is complete but the on that says 60% meat on the box is complementary - very confusing. I hate that they sell complementary cat food as it could be really dangerous >:(
Scrub that. The website says they are all complete but it doesn't show the pork one (the one they sell in Sainsbury's) and I am sure that is complementary - it was the last time I bought it a couple of years ago :Crazy:

Some hi life pouches are complete and some arent, i can never remember the difference so check the pouches you have, i do know the small petit pate tins are complete.
Its better food for all cats, fat or thin ;D

Thank you!! I just wanted to double check I wouldnt want to be feeding them food that isnt good for them. I am feeling hopeful that some better food will help Jack lose a bit of weight. I have just ordered some bozita wet and applaws dry food to try as well. You may of seen my other recent post, about Jack and his poorly eye, so he hasnt been outside for a week, so is not getting as much excercise, so think he may of gained a little more this week. I also ordered the 'da bird', its look fab. My cats love a good play so it looks perfect. :Luv:
