Title: treating ear mites
Post by: Kay and Penny on July 29, 2009, 22:04:32 PM
I think Tosker has ear mites, as I have seen him scratching his ears a lot

catching him is out of the question - does anyone know of a treatment which can be given via food?

I think the only things are topical, I've never heard of anything cats can take internally but I could be wrong.  I think you may have to trap him and take him to let the vet confirm it definitely is mites and then treat him or ask the vet and see what they suggest.  Good luck!

I daren't trap him as I would risk undoing all the progress he has made

I had a good look at him this morning through the binoculars and the ears look very clean, no gunge or raw patches outside, so I shall postpone worrying for now

Maybe just keep your eye on him in case he has some problem going on there like an infection down in his ear.

my 2 got ear mites and the vet will give you treatment for it. my vet gave me the drops that go on the base of their skull, just like flea treatment. it worked a treat!  :)
