Ellooo Peeps
As ya know we have been selling the wonderful Da bird cat toy since 2006 on Purrs but maybe what ya didn't know is that the Da bird pole is made in two different ways.
One is the one we sell which is the pull apart 2 part rod where you push the two parts together to make the 36" rod. The other is the Full length 36" rod in one whole lengh.
We have always imported the two part rod so it only costs £2.12 to ship in a 22" long tube 1st class mail.
However i have the whole rod here (which was a sample i was given by my supplier) and i have to say to use it is better as sometimes the two part rod can part while in play. No probs cause all i do is put it back together which is fine.
I wanted to ask you all ... If i imported the whole rod aswell so we offered both in the shop do you think it will be sellable esp because of this....
I would have to get long tubes of 37" lengh to post out and the max lengh you can send by 1st class mail is 35.5" so the pole would have to be sent by royal mail standard parcels at a cost of £5.60 (postage plus cost of long tube)
If we did import it as well as the two part pole, we would be the only UK store that sells the Da bird as a whole pole. The whole pole is more popular in the USA than the two part pole!!
Question is would it be worth us getting in the Da bird as a whole pole when this would cost an extra £3.48 for each on postage comparred to the two part one we sell now? Would people spend an extra £3.48 shipping on the same toy but for a whole pole instead of a two part one?
:Dont know:
Whatcha fink?

I think that's quite a difference in postage price and not sure people would go for it.
A tip from the top (think it was Maddiesmum that 'invented' it) is to tear off a small piece of kitchen roll and wrap it round the end of the pole before you insert it. Works wonders even with a growling cat pulling with all his might on DaMouse :evillaugh:

Ive never actually had any probs with my 2 part rod! :evillaugh: :innocent:
-
I would buy the two part pole based on Postage costs, Sorry
-
Postage a bit pricey Tan :-[. Have to say I prefer wand that Da Mousey comes with altho wire does tend to break away from wand with our lot. They play a bit too rough I think ;).
Not much of a fan of the pole after string got caught around Freddie's tail and he ran off upstairs and pole got caught under OH's desk as Freddie tried to run under it. Pole did however come apart thankfully :-: so we do use it still but are very careful that it's always supervised play. I can't say that extended pole is for us though :(

I think the postage is far too high and my two part rod has never come apart
-
My two part rod never comes apart :-:
great stuff super glue ;) :evillaugh:
but I am thinking of getting another, because when Olivia takes da mousie for a walk,
she sometimes get's the long rod stuck when turning around in the lobby
note to self ;- get a short rod and 10 more mousies for Olivia

Not sure if some peeps would like a single rod, the only thing you could do would be buy a few and try it I guess. If it's more popular in America then maybe they got that one first? I wouldn't mind paying extra if that was all you sold but me (and Byron) are happy with the 2-part one. I think it's only come apart once :)
-
Mine is terrible for coming apart, but I am just going to sellotape it together, I wouldnt pay extra for it to be in one part.
-
Blue-tac holds ours together - so that if I want to take it apart and hide it its not too awkward.
If there had been no choice, Id have happily bought the "fixed" rod (Id have known no difference :evillaugh:) but I think the postage price difference will probably make most of us opt for the cheaper version :shy:

Never had my two part one come apart. I'd also only buy the two parter as it fits perfectly into the 'confiscated toy drawer', anything larger and I'd have trouble hiding it in a place where it couldn't be found and stolen!

Thanks :Luv:
It's about what i thought. ie the extra postage is too much just for the whole pole.
It's such a shame as it's i can fit it into a 36" tube but even that is just half inch over the top of the lengh limit for 1st class post.
Just a little 1.5 cm makes the postage go up from 2.12 to 5.60!! very silly rule from Royal Mail!! :innocent:
Thanks very much for your views

I agree, prefer the two part. Even though mine comes loose I've used rubber band and paper to keep it together. Lexy would find some way to destroy it if I had a long pole.
Also, would be a bit hesitant on postage, as others have said, its a bit high.
-
Not had any probs with our 2 part rod (not modified) and agree on the postage front too. Oh and storage of a full rod when not in play would be more difficult too.
-
I glued mine so had no probs with it comming apart.
I wouldnt spend the extra p+p when a few pennies of glue can do the same job

Am really glad I read this thread, used the kitchen roll trick and managed a good game with Sam where the rod didn't pulll apart every few minutes!!
