I posted in the Alzheimers thread saying puss was going with the fairies.
I actually now think he is just simply dying on us. I've never had a cat just die of old age and at 16 he's not really that old. His confusion is so much worse now and he is losing weight fairly rapidly.
I've just been watching him lying half in one of the beds.
I don't think he's in pain, just simply dying.
I stopped the felimazole quite quickly as he was only borderline anyway and he was just withdrawing more into himself. So, I suppose the last hope is when it leaves his system he may pick up a bit but neither myself or OH can see that happening.
So once again we are down to that old addage, vet or no vet.......if only they could talk. :(
-
If only they could talk, indeed.

Sorry Angie
If he isn't suffering and just gradually fades, I couldn't think of a better way to go - I wouldn't mind going that way - although I plan to be a cantankerous old git before that

I am sorry to hear this Angie, hopefully it is just the Felimazole that is making him worse. Did the vet check his blood pressure?
-
Well he is at the vet now. They will blood test again, try blood pressure, Have him on drip today to flush out any toxins and we have booked a pick up at 18:10.
He was behind the back of a chair this morning. Oh and he has very little vision at the moment.
They said his livers were also slightly elevated last time so it might be that. He hasn't eaten since yesterday morning and then only a little.
not really that hopeful but he has to be given the chance.
-
 hope things turn out ok for poor old puss xx

 hope things turn out ok for poor old puss xx
Me too! x
-
vets phoned.
liver readings ok, blood pressure slightly high, potassium levels very low and sugars quite high.
They asked about if he had eaten today and we said we didn't think so but of course biscuit down all time but he's not likely to have eaten the state he is in.
more drips and bloods later. one for a different blood test.
and his eyes are bad...... (I've been saying that for years!).
-
Sending you    - I hope they can offer some help
-
5pm vet phoned and his sugars had crashed and he was distressed.
Vet thought it was likely to be something fairly major like a pancreatic tumour which would account for wildly swinging blood sugars and low potassium.
We went in at 6 to say our goodbyes.
Strangely, haven't cried, not yet upset - he was so out of it anyway I feel we lost him days ago.
RIP my lad, I can see you're spraying for England already at the bridge - we may all need umbrellas for a long time to come.
-
Angie, I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you.
