Title: kitten with poorly eye
Post by: Karen-covcats on July 07, 2009, 23:29:03 PM
Having just got in from a PTA meeting i go to do the evening litter trays and feeding frenzie to find one of my foster kittens with a red eye completely bloodshot, couldnt see pupil just blood red. Quickly scooped her up and phoned Angie, then Jill and then the on call vet who said the same thing. To keep an eye on her and take her in first thing in the morning. Dont know how or what she has done but she was out her pen running around the kitchen with all her brothers and sister today and they all go mad! Worring to look at and i hope she doesnt loss her sight in that eye. She seems fine otherwise playing and eating etc. Well shes out with me for the night cant imagine im going to get much sleep worrying about her. So send her all your good vibes for tomorrow. Have got piccies but computer taking ages to down load resizing thing so i can post them

Karen poor little one, I bet you cannot wait for the vets to open!

Just keep feed her and let her get some rest, hopefully with some food in her tummy, she will rest and shut her eye.

I think Coventry Cat Group are keeping them busy at the moment.  I am trying to tell when Old Boy has had enough, but he ate his pilchards tonight, and seemed to enjoy them.  He has been managing his Orijen until the day before yesterday. :(

Well this morning her eye did look better blood only covering middle of the eye but she has got a small spot appeared in her left eye too now. Anyway got to vets for 830am vet not in till 9 :-: Not Ross but lovely lady vet was abit stumped by her. She took her off to a dark room to examine her eye properly and couldnt see any damage to the outside. She is unsure as she is a 8 week old  kitten, the vet has seen it in older cats with blood pressure of blood problems before but not in kittens. She said she may have had some kind of head trama running around with her brothers and sister so to keep a watch on her and keep her seperate and bring her back tomorrow. She is going to do some research tonight on kittens to see if she can find any answers and possibly do some blood tests and blood pressure test on her tomorrow. If of course she doesnt get worse in the other eye today otherwise its back down there. Ive got some pain medication if she needs it but to be honest she is not acting poorly at all eating fine and jumping all over the place :Luv:

By the way she has been named Tinkerbell by my daughter (5 kittens and 5 kids they name one each one less job for me to do!) But my hubby was calling her T yesterday saying she looked like the terminator >:(

Piccie this morning you cant really see it in bad eye because of light!

yep I've had that, my sister's MIL asked her GP and he said it's if your blood vessels are close to surface.  Hopefully just something like that.

Well little spot in left eye has dissappeared this morning but the right eye is still the same big splodge over pupil. Off the the vets at lunchtime to see what they decide to do.
She is still a lively little one though very cute :Luv:

Well lady vet had spoke to Ross this morning to get his opinion on what might be wrong with the eye. Its still the same may have thinned out abit or that just may be me hoping! Anyway we are hoping it was just a head trauma she had running around with her siblings and because she is acting completely normal i am going to monitor her and she is booked back in for Monday to see if it may get better over the weekend. They dont really want to do a blood test yet because she is so lively and small she would have to be sedated. But if it hasnt healed by monday blood tests are next. Other than a head trauma Ross mentioned different blood dieseses and even the dreaded FIP was mentioned  :scared:. After today and portia  :'(  i didnt need to hear that so im trying to put it out my mind as she as said before doesnt seem poorly at all. So she is still isolated away from her siblings and the other foster cats i have in. Hopefully it will clear up over the weekend

Well she seems better as over the weekend the blood splodge has moved down of her pupil and you can just see it at the bottom off the eye. I assume thats good, splodge does seem smaller as well. See what the vet says tomorrow evening :Luv:

Good news vet says that the blood is doing exactly what it should be doing draining away downwards. So looks like was most likely a bump she suffered and not something more serious.Just got to keep an eye on her to check it all clears slowly. She has been allowed to go back with her siblings so that will cheer her up :Luv:

Just need to find a lovely new home for her and the other 9 foster kittens and one mummy i have in at the moment

Thanks for all the well wishes.
