Lovely older cat looking for new home - could be pts if nothing found.

In section: Cat Rescue & Re-homing ยป Little old lady cat needs new home Chesterfield area
-
I've seen this girl, but I didn't notice the PTS bit....will call my uncle tomorrow. (He tells me and my cousin he doesn't want a cat since she moved out with hers, but it's really obvious he misses their company. The cats, not my cousins! ;))
-
and ginger females are very special :Luv2:
-
She is lovely - I've already posted her on my Facebook and said if Mog wasn't such high maintenance I'd be trying to talk my partner round!
-
Aw bless, she is lovely...Good Luck with a home for her! :Luv:
Ethel... (http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb316/Ruth_davey100/p-156077unk.jpg)
-
gorgeous :Luv:
-
She is beautiful but doesnt get on with other cats
-
That's right Gill she needs to be an only cat apparently
-
Yep, hence me calling my cousin tonight....my uncle doesn't have any other pets. Annoyingly though, I emailed the original poster to see if she'd be OK as an indoor only cat and they haven't answered!
-
Ethel is currently living with us in Chesterfield, she is an indoor cat at the moment and wants to find somebody to love and to love her, she is very sweet.
Will try try to respond to any posts asap, thanks for an help anyone can offer.
-
I feel a match coming on :Luv2:
-
Doest like other cats trigger so you are safe :shify:
-
one ginger female is quite enough for me, Gill :evillaugh: - and I am having enough problems with a cat who doesn't like people :'(
-
Sorry if I sounded abrupt Karen - I'm really hoping my uncle will take her so wanted info as soon as possible to give to him.
-
No problem, very busy with work and shouldnt be using my work laptop for this but its very upsetting cos shes such a sweetie.
Have just left her asleep on the bed with my daughter, shes so gentle.........unless another cat is around!
Please if there are any more questions will try to get back to you asap but probly wont have chance till tonight now.
-
Just wondered if there is any good news from your uncle JS ?
-
Not so far - my cousin has assured me she's "working on him." (I think if I turned up with Ethel he'd cave anyway. ;)) I'll call him myself tomorrow and see what he says. :)
-
:shify: :shify: :shify: ;)

Just turn up with Ethel then :naughty: go on you know you want to :naughty:
-
I really do....will, most definitely call him later. Not sure what time he's working today.
-
Will try to check back on later, where do you and your uncle live?
Im sure he would love her, do you want another way to contact me?
-
Karen, sent you a PM. Don't worry, my cousin and I will be working on him. he's great with caring for cats, but I think he feels a bit embarrassed about liking balls of fluff so much! (He used to be a miner and I think it detracts from his manly side! ;))
-
Oooooooooooooooo does this mean that Ethel has got a home then?
-
Hopefully Gill. I'll explain the severity of the situation and even if it's only a long term fostering situation, at least Ethel and Karens other cats will be happier.
-
Wonderful ;D
-
Sorry guys. My uncle doesn't feel in the right position to be taking on a cat at the moment. :( Will keep asking around though - I think she's gorgeous!
-
it's best that he's not going to take her on and later regret it though
-
Has Ela not seen this one? :shify:
-
Not sure if the CP has been contacted and has no space in all honesty.
-
Nor I, I posted the link for all rescues in her area but don't know if she contacted them
-
I think a cat due for PTS would (or should) be considered top priority for any rescue although it is sickening that some people use this to blackmail rescues into taking cats when they are full with a waiting list. At the same time, rescues can't call their bluff and have to act.
-
and ginger females are very special
Why? Over the years we have as many ginger females as males.
Not sure if the CP has been contacted and has no space in all honesty.
As many of you know I am homing officer for Chesterfield CP and I have not been informed about this little ones plight. :( Quite right we have no space but I do not think that anyone who has nothing to do with Chesterfield CP should be advising people we have no space. I should have been asked. Also we would never see a little one PTS because of that fact.
How right you are Mark, sadly almost every day I receive those threats, but can tell if it genuine or not. If an any doubt whatsoever we cannot take the risk with a little ones life.
-
Ela, I didn't say you had no space - I said I didn't know if you'd been contacted and if you had, if the outcome was that the CP had no space. Can you help Ethel?
-
Ela, I didn't say you had no space - I said I didn't know if you'd been contacted and that was the outcome. Can you help Ethel?
As you posted Not sure if the CP has been contacted and has no space in all honesty
. I read that as you saying we had no spaces, I also know that others had read it as I did. Ethels carer (although not living in the area the Chesterfield and District deal with) has been in contact with me and advised me that Ethel cannot go into a cattery where she would see other cats. I have now placed a pic of Ethel and details on the gallery on our site and hopefully we will at some time find a home for her.
Corporal Smokey, could the details be placed on the Ashfield and Amber Valley site please?
-
If that's how it read, I apologise to any people I confused. I'll state now I am in no way associated with the CP so can only go on information I'm given whenever I contact them on behalf of people regarding placements.
Karen, I'll keep asking around for a home. I'm waiting for an email from someone looking for an indoor cat.
-
Hello! We're absolutely crammed with a kitteny nightmare at the mo but would be happy to put her on the website and Cat Chat as a direct rehome. Please could someone pm me with all the details and a contact number to add to the page for potential homes to call.
Thanks and thanks Ela for pointing this in my direction
-
I'll state now I am in no way associated with the CP so can only go on information I'm given whenever I contact them on behalf of people regarding placements.
The information you may be given is for that moment only and as you know I always advise for my details to be given to the person so they can contact me direct. A rescues circumstances can change almost hourly so what information a person may have been given could have changed totally later that day, so in view of this it is always wise to ask the person involved to contact a rescue themselves to confirm the current position. Also even if they cannot take a cat in immediately they are able to give sound advice based on the true facts at the time.
In this case after speaking to the carer I know that she does not want the cat to come into care anyway as it hates even to see other cats. Therefore as preciously advised I placed a pic of Ethel and her details on our CP site in the hope of direct homing her.
-
Ethel's details on the gallery of Chesterfield CP site, carer's name and number sent to you via PM
-
Hopefully between us we can find her a home soon :)
We have another ginger girl at Ashfield too, she's a beauty :Luv:
-
Bumping up Ethel. ;)
-
Ela, I didn't say you had no space - I said I didn't know if you'd been contacted and if you had, if the outcome was that the CP had no space.
Thats how i read it, its well known people say all rescues wont help them fullstop when they have only phoned the one and had no instant action!
Fingers crossed she gets a home soon, shes gorgeous
-
It bothers me that people assume i havent tried the standard route to try to find Ethel a new home, i would dearly love to keep her but as i have already said she doesnt accept my other 2 cats that are very loved and have had their little world disrupted by poor old Ethel.
If you met Ethel you would understand why, even if a rehoming centre had space and i have spoken to more than 1, it would be a very stressful solutuin for Ethel as she really doesnt like any other cats, if she can just see another cat she gets very angry, aggresive and is very unpredictable.
So to put her in a cattery type envronment would be an awful situation for her and given her age it just really wouldnt be fair, nor is the PTS option which it would brake my heart to actually do but unless a solution can be found i really dont know what else to do.
My other 2, Lillie and Mo are due to go into Woodhouse cattery when i go on holiday on 3rd August, but Ethel cant be taken there so even if somebody is able to offer a temporary fix for now and i can resume my search for a home for Ethel when i get back it would be a big help.
Opened myself up for criticism again there havent i as it seems some are very quick to tell me off for doing things in the wrong way bit if you really belive i am not trying to do my best for Ethel then thats that!
-

I don't think anyone is assuming anything Karen but no-one would like to see Ethel pts. It sounds like you have tried to help Ethel settle in with your 2 cats but she prefers to be an only cat as many cats do, hopefully someone will offer a home very soon. Was she an only cat before?
-
I'm sure no one is meaning to criticise you Karen
fact is a cat which cannot tolerate being anywhere near other cats is a real problem to rehome - I would imagine fosterers, rescue centres and most cat lovers are not going to be able to provide the isolation from others cats Ethel needs
an older person living alone would be the best bet, perhaps - do you have a local day centre which takes ads? a big photo of her might work - and the cpmpanionshop of a cat can be such a blessing - my mother rehomed a cat-hating older girl and it made such a difference to her
-
Did I word my post REALLY badly? Doh!
Karen, I'm asking everyone I can think of. :) I think Ethel looks great but already have four cats - if she has trouble with two heaven knows what she'd be like here! ;)
-
Did I word my post REALLY badly? Doh!
:evillaugh: no the opposite, I understood it as you said it
-
Phew. Sometimes I have a tendency to say things in such a manner that people look at me with that blank expression.....
I'm still asking around but people aren't won over by older cats as easily as kittens however stunning they are. (Well, most people that aren't Purrs members.... ;))
-
Karen how about contacting your local paper (not free ads ) and see if they will run a little piece about Ethel, you never know some-one could be out there who could help to home her subject to inspection, maybe a nursing home etc or an old person living alone
-
Have you an approx age for Ethel please?
-
Im taking Lillie and Mo up for thier jabs today so im hoping i can nip back up after with Ethel, will obviously let you all know what i find out.
-
Thank you
-
:wow:Have just got back from the vets, the opinion is that Ethel is around 10-12 years old.
-
But she is sooooooo gorgeous ;D
-
That was my guestimate! :)
-
She is :Luv: and she's not so old
-
Thank you for her approx age, I have now put that on my site. I must admit that I would not have guessed her correct age by looking at the pic and I know that very often even vets are way out when giving a 'guesstimate' and as Janeyk says she is not that old.
-
I told people she was roughly 11. :)
-
I thought she looked sort of that age, having an interest in older cats I'm usually quite good at guessing oldies' ages.
-
I'm bumping this up as the situation is getting more urgent. Can anyone help? Please PM Karen if you can - thank you.
-
I had a phone call from a lovely lady called Luci yesterday who can foster Ethel until we can find her something permanent, I am so relieved and would like to thank JackSpratt for all the help and support so far, I am starting another poster campaign today to see if we can find Ethel a new family but it really has taken the pressure off so a big thankyou once again.
Karen
xx
-
Luci is a real animal lover, I've known her since infant school!
She did say if the dogs didn't phase Ethel there might be a possibility of it being a permanent home.
-
Fab news! Good on you Luci! :Luv:
-
Fingers crossed things work out xx
-
Great news - hope things work out well for Ethel.
-
Ethel is now with Luci who says she seems to be settling in well. :)
-
;D that's great news
-
Brilliant :)
-
Great ;D
-
Ethel settling in....hopefully permanently but I'm not pushing it! ;)
-
Oh my she is beautiful ;D
-
I love that pale apricot colour in cats :Luv2:
-
Luci loves Ethel to bits but unfortunately the arrangement can only be temporary I'm told. If anyone can offer Ethel a permanent home please PM me. She very much likes her own space, so if anyone knows of someone with no other animals she'd be ecstatic!
-
So sad she doesnt like other cats :(
-
:wish:
-
Fingers crossed the perfect home comes up for Ethel and Well Done to your friend JS for taking her in on a temp basis! ;)
-
Ethel (now affectionately nicknamed Effie) is still looking for her forever home.
-
New photo....
-
Another new photo taken recently. This old girl is very much cared for where she is, but the situation isn't ideal as she's still a bit wary of the dogs.
-
Isn't she lovely :Luv2:
hope that her forever home comes soon
-
This is amazing.....someone else who was a year above me at school saw my Facebook tagline about Ethel, looked in the photos and after a family discussion offered her a permanent home. :)
-
:wow: that is just great, I do hope that everything goes well for dear Ethel she deserves it!
-
That's fantastic. She is such a stunning colour and deserves her own place.
-
Sp glad things look to be working out for Ethel, do hope she settles well in her new home and well done JS for your persistance
-
Fantastic news JS! Im so pleased for darling Ethel! :Luv:
Well Done to all concerned with helping this lady out! :Luv2:
-
Sadly, this home has fallen through. :( So Ethel is still looking.
-
Oh no!!! Im sure there must be some special person out there to take darling Ethel on.... This lovely lady deserves that much! :Luv:
-
oh dear :(
-
I know. It's crazy, I have no idea how people can't see what a sweetie she is!
-
Still looking. And the fosterer is actually concerned as she thinks there may be a health issue with Ethel.
-
Why what is matter with her JS :(
-
i just love ethel :Luv2:
-
Why what is matter with her JS :(
This is the info I received: we think Ethel needs to see a vet as she's been rather unsteady and losing her balance. Definitely cause for concern.
-

:( oh right, hope it's nothing serious
-
Positive vibes for darling Ethel~~~~I do hope its nothing major! :wish:
-
Oh dear....I hope she sees a vet very quickly
-
Me too Gill, hopefully discussions were had as to who pays for what at the begining
-
It's sorted. Ethel is off to the vets tomorrow.
-
That's good, lots of luck for her xx
-
Ethel's staying at the vets tonight. He's screening her tomorrow for AIDS and Leukemia.
Poor Ethel. :(
-
Thers some space there for educating about
AIDS FIV ;) fingers crossed shes clear, they dont tend to make cats wobble.
-
I did say if it was FIV then Ethel still had a chance of a decent home. Will see what happens tomorrow.
-
Poor girl, hope she's ok xx
-
:crossed: Will be thinking of her tomorrow and really hope she is gonna be okay! :wish:
-
All clear on her tests, Ethel has been flea'd and allowed back to Luci.
Still looking for a permanent home for this girl.
-
If I had room I would take beautiful Ethel, do hope thats she is OK.....how can nobody want her :(
-
Glad everything at the vets was ok with her..... Bless! :Luv2:
-
She really doesn't like other cats, Gill. I think she'd have been homed about five times over otherwise.
-
Yes I know JS and thats why I dont have room.
-
Glad Ethel is healthy :)
-
Yes I know JS and thats why I dont have room.
Ahh, I see. dreaming of a mansion with enough annexes for anti social cats, eh? Think we've all done that!
-
Yes am dreaming lol cos saw a 4 bed detached property and the details still havent come through
-
Hope you get them through soon. :)
-
Good to read she is negative ;D what do they believe is causing her to be unsteady?
-
Sorry - missed the question. I haven't been told, so presumably general old age unsteadiness. (Mog can be a bit wobbly on the pins, although she is nearly 20 so it's allowed. ;))
-
Ethel is back at the vets today after taking a tumble down the stairs. Luci is not happy about how Ethel is moving about and is very concerned.
-
OMG!!! Hope all will be okay.....that's scary! :scared:
-
oh dear poor ethel, i do hope she is ok
-
The vet has a suspicion it's brain damage. :(
-
oh dear :(
-
oh dear, poor Ethel :(
-
Ethel is back in for more checks tomorrow. She's apparently VERY vocal so I've advised Luci to ask for a geriatric blood panel and a blood pressure check.
She was a bit brighter today. :)
-
Bless her, hope shes ok
-
Bless her, hope shes ok
Me too! :wish:
-
She had an A/B jab which has perked her up a bit apparently. She also tail swishes a lot which has settled over the last couple of days.
-
Hope the abs help....the tail swishing may have had something to do with her balance! ;)
-
Hope that Ethel will be ok and the abs help xx
-
Lots of good wishes for Ethel
-
Ethel is massively improved, so much so that they're going to start asking around for a permanent home again. Obviously anyone who might offer her a home will be told about the issues she has had.
-
That's great news, really pleased for her now lets hope that new home comes along soon xx
-
Got a message regarding Ethel yesterday; she'd had a relapse and was vomiting. I've just had a very distressed call from Luci letting me know Ethel had started losing balance again and was incontinent. She'd had a major stroke and had been diagnosed with Horns disease.
They've had to let her go. Understandably, Luci couldn't say much more.
RIP Ethel, you were loved an awful lot by your foster "mummy and daddy."
-
Oh no :'( isn't life cruel sometimes, poor old girl. Thankfully she had a lovely foster mum and dad.
RIP sweetheart xx
-
So sad, RIP little one :(
-
oh what a shame - poor Ethel :'(
but she did find her loving home really, didn't she, even if it wasn't intended to be permanent, and I am so pleased about that
-
Poor Ethel :'(
-
I am so sad to read this! :(
Big HUGS to her foster mum and dad!
-
oh how terrible and she never ever got her forever home, so sad for such a beautifl cat :(
RIP Ethel , now everyone will love and want you
-
Poor Ethel :( so close to a new home but happy in the foster one, RIP Ethel, safe at last and free from pain :Luv:
-
oh how terrible and she never ever got her forever home,
True. But am not entirely convinced a "forever home" would've had the capacity to love her any more than Luci and Geoff did. Poor Luci sounded devastated when she called.
-
Yes I am sure that is true JS
-
:(
