hi
please can someone help - yesterday my billie was run over, i heard it when i was in the garden thank god, we rushed him to the vets
now this is where i am shocked and confused.
a) on assesment i was told he would definately lose a leg and or possibly his tail - but they will call me
b) got a phone call at 2pm saying he wont lose a leg, but still might lose a tail... come and pick him up tomorrow ( ie today) and give him cage rest for 4- 6 weeks.
c) called vets this mroning to see what time i could pick him and was told.. its still touch and go possibly monday now, he had ot have another 2 pain killer injections.
now i am not faulting the vets they have been superb,,, i am a little confused as to why the story keeps changing and "touch and go " to me means he might make it, he might not.
i am in tears constantly at work... roll on 3pm when i am allowed to visit him for 10 minutes.

sorry, it must be hard for you and I can't really help. I suppose they may still be assessing his injuries as there may be other damage apart from broken bones but only your vet can tell you.
Is Billie a good patient?
-
might the 'touch and go' refer only to the possibility of losing a leg or his tail?
I think you should ring the vets right away and ask how he is, and make sure you understand the answer
-
Sorry to hear that Billie has been in an accident, I'd call the vets again to see if they can tell you exactly what's happening now. Presumably they will have done xrays etc?
-
thanks for such a quick response, i called but i was told i need to see the vet at 3 as the nurse can only give certain info.
she said he will probably make it, but their may be more damage done... the xrays only concluded a broken pelvis.
poor little mite, i will take his favourite blanket this arvo.. sigh

Hi Jane,
Sorry to hear about Billie's accident ..... can't offer any advice just a great big  for you until it's time to go to the vet. Once you have more details on Billie's injuries from the vet please post back as there are lots of people who will be able to offer you advice.
Take care and fingers crossed Billie makes a spedy recovery.
BTW ... good idea to take his favourite blanket in it will help him to feel a bit better if he can smell "home" smells
-
Do hope that Billie is ok :wish:
-
How is Billie?
-
Hope it was positive news about Billie

Hope it was positive news about Billie
Seconded! :Luv:
-
Please don't panic.
I might have told the story here already but here I go again. My cat fell from the 4th floor and had a broken pelvis.
I was advised to keep her in a box for 3 months (!). I consulted another vet who X-rayd and said I should leave it be. Two days later, she was running again!!
All depends on the fracture.
I send lots of vibes and hope Billie will be as lucky as Tiffany was.
Keep up the faith!

Any news on Billy, Hope you are both ok

hi all
billie has peed on his own today... he is comng home at 6pm. ;D
cannot wait but a little worried i cant cope with him. He has been on pain killers and iv fluids til today and is very very sore.
he is still paralyised and we wont know the nerve damage untila few weeks time... :-:
He cant Poo yet and i wll have to clean it up ( i dont mind ) but dont want ot hurt him..
he will be on cage rest for 6-8 weeks...
oooooooooo soooooooooo excitied to see him again....
-
;D great news, give him a gentle hug from me Jane
-
So pleased he can come home tonight, I'm sure he'll be much more relaxed with you around
Wishing him a very speedy recovery, please give him a healing headrub from me and Max :Luv2:
-
Great that he can come home cos thats where he will relax the most. A gentle stroke from me
-
I'd be apprehensive too - but if he has nerve damage I would imagine the chances of hurting him are reduced
and if you do hurt him that could be good news, as it would show the nerve damage was improving

MY BOY HOME
-
IT WONT FIT
-
Only just spotted this thread, pleased to hear that Billie is now home.
A small observation- from the picture of cage with bedding and litter tray it seems that Billie will have to step up a few inches to get into tray, better for him if you can add extra bedding to raise it thus decreasing height of litter tray making it easier for him.
Good Luck
-
I've only just seen this too. I'm so pleased you have him home, where he can relax and get better with your TLC. Lots of good vibes coming from us all for you and Billie
-
Hope all is going well now that you have Billie home? :Luv:

Hi morning :Luv:
billie went to vets this morning, had another jab of painkiller, some metacam.. and gave me some squirty stuff to keep his stools going.
he has put weight on the leg... which i cannot beleive my eyes... poor mite, he collapsed afterwards but at least it shows slow healing..
he is in a lot of pain but the cage rest will hopefully help..
thanks all xx

He does look comfortable though so that's the main thing bless him! :Luv2:

good for Billie, at least trying to put weight on must mean that the pain relief is helping. The pics are very cute too, he looks lovely.
-
I've only just seen this and sorry to hear that Billy was in an RTA, we went through this last year with my Mums cat Casper and he lost a back leg as a result. The first few weeks were quite traumatic with the cage and watching him trying to get up, but cats really are amazing when it comes to recovering from such major ordeals and he is exactly how he always used to be now, minus the leg of course. It sounds like Billy is doing really well and he's totally gorgeous!
-
Im really happy for you and Billie that hes making progress, judging by the pictures hes happy and relaxed so his pain relief must be working, hopfully wont be to long before hes made a full recovery
-
:Luv: Morning.
Billie came out the cage last night and sat on the sofa with me for a few hours. I picked him up very carefully .. i think he was over the moon to get out for a while. Even tho he did just sleep.
He is hurting himself in the cage, he stands up and reaches his front paws on the top of the cage then collapses in pain. He keeps doing this to get out and hurting himself. I assume this is just part of the healing process, but its so gut wrenchingly hard to watch him like that... sob sob
thank you for your kind words.. hope Casper is ok now.
I recon he hasnt learnt his lesson at all, he just keeps staring at the window ( his old escape route) and crying.
I moved him into the kitchen this morning to try and assist.
-
Aww bless his, yes he probably did enjoy getting out of the cage for a little while for some cuddles and a lie down on the sofa :Luv2:
I guess its the same with animals as with humans, even though something hurts, you push yourself a little bit to see if it still hurts as much (or maybe that's just me lol), but I guess its all part of the healing and learning process
-
:-: here we are content ....
big big difference to last week
-
Aww Billie looks loads happier, I am so glad all is going well
-
Lovely pic :Luv:
-
Aw he does look happy! :Luv:
-
Been very busy this week and only just had a chance to catch up on Billie .... so pleased he is back home and he certainly looks very happy to be out of the cage with his meowmy ;)
He is definitely in the best place to get better ... TLC is an amazing thing when combined with a happy kitty who wants to be with is "humans".
Get well soon Billie xxxxx :Luv2:
-
Billie looks great but dont let him over do it
-
I'm so glad Billie is recovering well.
My cat, Capone, was also in a RTA with smashed pelvis. He needed to have his tail amputated and he's missing quite a few teeth in his mouth. His backlegs were weak & wobbly, and he sometimes fell to the side when he tried running around. It only took a few months of light exercise (with Da Bird) and a regular attempts of jumping up/down the sofa! I would say he is fully recovered now though.
I hope Billie is doing well still.
-
sorry to hear about Capone.. :( how sad. Glad he has recovered well. How long was his cage rest for ?
-
awww that last piccie!!! so sweet.
Sending more posiitive vibes!

I don't know actually - think a few weeks. It was when he was at the fosterers house, before I adopted him.
