We currently have an upright vax with a fold down handle that suited us when we lived in a 1 bed flat as space was at a premium. Now that we have Samson we really need something that is effective at picking up cat hair and, of course, litter. The vax is managing OK but it's not great so we really need to get something a little better. Especially as we live in a rented property and we need to keep the carpet in good nick.
There seem to be lots of different 'pet' vacuums out there with varying attachments. We saw one in Focus yesterday, I think that was a Vax too, which also has a rollerball on the stair attachment which I imagine would be better at picking up rather than just sucking but only if it works!
Anyone know of any effective hair and litter grabbers?

I can tell you to avoid the Morphy Richards pet one. Talk about useless :tired:
Personally I'm switching to the Miele pet one soon and am soooooooo hoping it picks up the hair :scared:

Well reading all the reviews I haven't seen one less than 5 stars, which is pretty impressive. I think the thing with the pet one is it's much more powerful and it has some extra attachments which are perfect for furniture and stairs. Miele also seem to have a much better reputation than Dyson. At the moment I'm dealing with tons of black hair on light coloured carpet :doh:

That's part of our problem. Samsons white hair show up on the brown carpet and his tabby hairs show up on the bedding and the cream sofas!

We have the Electrolux Pet Lover and it copes pretty well, I am obessed with cleaning, Steve thinks I have an OCD about it but you know what it is like when you have cats, it would be my worse nightmare if anyone ever came to our house and could 'smell' cats. One thing I would say is whatever you do get a bagless hoover because you will be forever buying new hoover bags as they get full up so quickly.

Just think of the market in carpets for cat-lovers ....... My first choice would be dust, fluff and crumb coloured, with a hint of cat-litter!! And it would be brilliant if you had toddlers, too :naughty:

We have the Vax Mach 3 one for pet hair and it is really good, it's a bagless one and does the job well, even on the furniture.

I have a Dyson DC14 upright for downstairs and a Bissell Pet hair eraser upright for upstairs, both are excellent at picking up cat hairs and would definitely recommend both models. The Dyson came with a 5 year guarantee too ;D

I have 5 ragdolls and I have the dyson DC20 animal.
I think its fab. Picks up their fur completely.
Others on here prefer the Mielle range, but I am very happy with the DC 20.

However should we ever get a Miele pet then I will start hoovering more :wow:

The turbo-brush is excellent as is the hard-floor attachment.
the compact version (slightly lower wattage than the others) is on offer in Debenhams for £100 ATM.
I only found out that apart from a compact & standard version, all the others only vary (apart from colour) depending on the attachments they come with except for the very top model which has a motorised turbo brush as opposed to the turbo spinning caused by the air - so as we have a lot of hard floors, I chose the HEPA version which has the pet attachment as well as the hard floor attachment.
In other words, you could choose your favourite colour and if it doesn't come with the attachments you wanted, you can add them, such as the HEPA filter. My filter is about to need changing so not sure if I will buy a new one or just use the standard filter that comes with each pack of bags or spend money ona new HEPA. The bags filter so well that unless you have a genuine allergy, the "free" ones are probably good enough.
Tip for anyone that uses the hard floor attachment - when the fluff build up around the edges, rather than pick it off, I use the turbo attachment to get it the fluff off the other attachment.
Anyone who is put off by spending out for bags, don;t worry as the dust gets compacted unlike a dyson which needs emptying all the time so one bag lasts ages and weighs about 2kg when full.

Sorry but I totally disagree with that one. When you empty a dyson, the fluff is like candy floss but my miele compacts the dust (about 2kg when full) so a bag lasts 6 - 8 weeks and we have a 4 storey house with 4 cats. I also love that the dirt is totally contained in the bag (an 11 stage filtration untearable one) it even has a plastic flap so when you take it out, the dirt doesn't come out - so no wiping anything out and washing filters etc :)
We got our almost a year ago and I put the last bag in yesterday (it came with one filter and there were 6 bags in the pack as they had an offer on, there are normally 5) so I don't consider £10 a year excessive for the convenience and hygiene :)

I'm with Mark on this, the sebo bags squash everything down and you hardly ever change then, when I had a dyson (a while back so it might have changed) I still had to buy filters for it

Lets go back in time.....I cant personally remember this but Im sure some of you will! :innocent: What would you of done in the days of dustpan and brush! Must of been a :censored: mare!!! So I is now wondering was it technology that brought our cats in from the cold! :-:

I remember when I was about 5, my mum had a mangle and also used "reckitt blue" on the whites :evillaugh: (around 1967)
She was chuffed when she got her Servis twin tub around 1973 :evillaugh: - we were jealous of my aunt's automatic (hoover I think) that used to have plastic things you slotted in for various programmes :evillaugh:

I saw the £100 one in Debenhams, but think I need the more powerful one. Molly's hair can almost fill up an entire bag in the Morphy Richards so the vacuum needs to have plenty of ooomph. The Morphy is relatively powerful but lacks the necessary suction so the hair still ends up on the carpet, unless you get down on your hands and knees for 3 hours and do it bit by bit :Crazy:
What's the motorised turbo brush like? The Morphy has a turbo brush but I can't work out what it's supposed to do other than getting clogged and not turning. Most of puppy dawgs hair is a couple of inches long, apart from her bottom which is 13 inches at the longest part and it just all gets stuck .. but I'm sure it's because there is NO suction.

Crikey, those upright Miele's aren't half pricey! Are they really worth it? Not keen on having a cylinder, really wanted another upright.

I didn't even know Miele did an upright. The turbo is so much better than the Dyson one which used to stop spinning all the time and I was forever unblocking it. Miele are Dyson priced but so much better. They are designed to last 20 years.
