Hi all, my cats have recently had flea's and I have frontlined them, but Macey has been pulling the hair out of her arm's and paws, I can see the skin through her fur. She hasn't totally pulled the fur out but I'm wondering why she's doing this cos she has never done it before, I sometimes catch her doing it and she's really biting down. She has been frontlined in the past and never done this and my others don't do it. Ive got an appointment at the vet's. Could this be a mind over matter thing and she thinks something is biting her thats why she's doing it?

Oh just noticed I'm now a distinguished cat.

is she overgrooming - I think they sometimes do that if they are a bit anxious
-
I don't know, its only her arms, why would she be anxious?
-
not sure cc, it's just something I have read, I'm sure Amanda or Lynn or someone in rescue might have come across it before
-
She's a happy cat and she's only been doing it since the flea's, I think she is demented about having them on her so she's biting herself.

As you say its probably best to go to the vets but it sounds a lot like flea allergy dermatitis in the early stages. You`ve done the right thing by using Frontline but if she is allergic to the flea saliva like many cats are then only one flea will start this sort of thing. Do you Frontline them every 4-5 weeks? The vet might give her a steroid injection to settle this down, if it is this of course!

Well Amanda, I have only fronlined them last month, this months isn't due yet. I haven't been frontlining them from last year cos they didn't have fleas, they caught the fleas from a visitor thats been coming round. Ive been fronlining them all since they were kittens and this hasn't happened before.

Have you booked an appointment at the vets for the little one?
