Been prescribed some for Jack after his dental. They're a bit giant and he isn't the most co-operative pill taker at the best of times; any tips?
-
In the cat milk, Byron is having some right now for her teeth and it's the only way I get her to take it.
that's providing they are the capsules you can open?
-
It is yes. :) Thanks Janey, he LOVES cat milk.
-
:) you should be ok then, Byron only has 2 teeth but they aren't good so has to have antirobe on and off. She always has milk on a morning but to give her the other I usually give her just a small amount later and she will even take it mixed in a spoonful.
Did Jack need much doing to his teeth?
-
Ummmm, yes. :shy: Jack now has three canines and a few molars.....he's still eating biscuits though!
-
bless him, he'll feel better for his dental
-
:) He sussed the milk out. Next idea..... ;) (Thankfully I have some spare in date antirobe of the same dosage.)
-
other than mixed in strong tasting foods I've no idea :( I have to say though Byron didn't touch her milk yesterday and I thought oh no here we go but she drank it all this morning which was odd and that has happened occasionally (I've even wondered whether some taste/smell stronger depending on the temperature of the milk - so maybe you could try again if all else fails, trouble is you end up wasting a couple I've been there :tired:
-
The milk in the bowl is currently in the fridge so no other cats get it. Will try again later. :)
-
I would think cooler will taste less, good luck!
-
The only way I got Ollie to take it was in some milk- the less milk the better, then you can be sure they drink it all. I really couldnt see anyone being able to get them down a cats throat with the size of them
I would try again later Jack, its a hot day maybe he's not in the mood for milk yet :)
-
After literally HOURS of the antirobe/milk being in the fridge Jack still wouldn't drink it. In exasperation, I took another pill out of the packet and said "You're going to have to take this now" and pushed it between his lips - he looked slightly shocked and then just swallowed it!
Hmmm, cats. Never cease to amaze me!
-
If he eats meat or fish they go in that nicely. One of the easiest to hide ;D
If you pill him then get him to eat something after or syringe some water, antirobe is an irritating drug and if it hangs around before reaching the stomach it can cause problems.
Its amazing how quickly they get back to normal after a big dental :wow:
-
He's refusing to eat bland food, as I was advised. Keeps looking at me like I'm demented when I try and give him white fish and eats the biscuits instead. :tired:
-
Stinky fish such as tuna/pilchards/sardines?
When did he have his op, the bland food is for 24hrs so its easy on the stomach after a GA, his normal grub can go back on the menu :cook:
-
glad it's gone down, mine would never have been happy with white fish either, chicken maybe - well at least he'll be able to eat as normal tomorrow :)
-
Vet told me once that if you put tablets in the fridge they lose a lot of their taste because smell is less when things are cold, and most of cats taste is associated with smell. With my old boy Sooty (RIP) I used to break open the capsules and mix the contents with some delicious but stinky primula cheese spread with shrimp. He would just lick it straight off my fingers :wow:
-
most things do that's why they tell you to eat alot of things at room temperature
-
He got wise to tablets in Primula a while ago; he actively bolts out the cat flap if he's offered a finger with Primula on! He had the op yesterday afternoon, but even then it was difficult to get him to leave the normal cat food alone and eat bland stuff.
I suppose he's safe to go back to the usual food with the other three now.
-
He's a little tinker :naughty: I''ve usually given them just normal so long as it's not too rich - like gourmet or pate type ones, when they advise light things like fish and scrambled egg I just think yeh right they'll lap that up, if only :evillaugh:
-
Scrambled egg? Tried that one once to be met with cries of disbelief from said lad.... ;)
