hiya
I have just been offered a kitten that the owner says it has enteritis , The owner says the kitten is upto date with vacs , will this affect my three year old cat or is it safe to have the kitten ?
-
Hang on ......
This doesnt make sense, why do they think the kitten has enteritis ?
-
the owner says loose stools , tried the paste and anti biotics but the kitten still has loose stools , yet she says she has been fully vacinated
-
I would strongly advise against mixing this kitten with your own cat, there are lots of reasons for diarrhoea and some of them are not covered by vaccination ie parasites, this little one needs to be seen by a vet. How old is kitten ? If this kitten is up to date with vaccinations she/he should have a vaccination card. If you do take little one on you will need to maintain strict isolation.
Good Luck.

she is fully vacinated and has seen the vet , enteritis was mentioned in the email she sent me .
-
I guess the owner means gastroenteritis? anyway, agree with T, make sure you isolate for a while.
-
thats what i thought gastro-enteritis , just needed to check first to be safe for my other cat , how long shall i kept them seperate for , what can i do to help the kitten any suggestions ?
-
Can you speak to the vet who gave treatment before accepting the cat? You could be letting yourself in for big bills which cant be covered by insurance as its an existing problem.
Do you have a certificate for rosie so you know she is protected?
-
yes the kitten has a vacination card and she is on perscription food , sometimes she is fine and sometimes she aint , but i will phone her vet and talk to them
-
Where is the kitten from? Is it the one you have posted pics on in the thread asking for names?
-
yes its that one :Luv:
-
Is she from a breeder?
-
no shes not ;D
-
I would still be wary.

update on my new kitty
well i have had her for two days nows and she hasn't been as bad as the owners said she would be , I had to take her off her antibiotics as she was only suppost to have it for five days and she ahd been on it since the 19th of may :( .
I am just giving her paste from the vet to firm her up now , when i first got her she was very loose like water and it was yellow , but i have been giving her chicken rice and a bit of kitten food also her water is cooled boiled water only .
Her stools are now brown and alot thicker , but she seems to have not alot of control and if she passes wind she poos too , she does get to the litter tray sometimes tho :)
-
Poor baby, that was a lengthy dose of anti-bs for such a young kitt! :(
Still sounds like her tum is doing summersaults and must be painful with all that wind!
-
Yes thats what i thought , the previous owners must not of read the bottle :(
She isnt eating very much tho , little bits here and there , but i suppose its better than nothing :) She seems happy in herself tho very playfull , She is only 12 weeks old and very tiny :Luv:
-
Antibiotics can also upset stomachs, especially a lengthy course. Is the bottle called synulox drops? If so you need to chuck it away as it only keeps for 7 days.
Fingers crossed she regains control of her botty soon
-
They are called Ceporex vet oral drops
-
Just checked and they have 10 days shelf life
-
it says on the bottle she was given them on the 19th of may , She hasn't had any at all today , i will keep it incase i need to take her to the vets about it , and it has the previous owners vets on it too
