Korky's breathing has been noisy over the weekend, as though he's got a cold, so he went to the vets today. His usual vet wasn't in so we saw a new young lady vet and I was very impressed She ruled out any obstructions and after I told her about his history with his ear (he still flattens it down and shakes his head at least once a day) she thinks it might be a recurrence of whatever he had last year and as Marbocyl worked for him then he's had an injection and has a week's supply of tablets. She also cleared some plaque off his teeth. She says he looks in very good condition and was a bit surprised when she realised how old he is and how dodgy his kidneys are.
Recently he's been weeing/drinking more and I've assumed its his kidneys worsening but as the same thing happened last year when his ear was bad and improved when the problem was sorted I'm hoping that might happen again. Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed that the meds will sort everything out! Good Luck! :Luv:

I'm sorry to hear that Korky the Bagpuss isn't 100%, but very glad to hear about the proficient-sounding vet. I'm sure he'll be right as rain once the medication starts to take effect
And take real pride in the vet's observation that he doesn't look his age - I bet you do ;) ;D

Fingers crossed that the meds work

Hope the meds kick in quickly, sending a headrub to Korky and a  to you :Luv2:

Took him back for his follow-up appointment this morning which was supposed to be with the lady vet we saw last week but although the board in the surgery said she was in she wasn't, so I had to explain his problem all over again to yet another vet, including last year's episode which isn't in his notes because it happened when we were in France >:(
His snuffles have cleared up and I haven't seen him shaking his head over the past few days but that does tend to come and go. Hhe got another very thorough examination and he didn't protest this time when the scope was poked down his ear so it must be feeling better. The vet did say there was wax in there (it was cleaned last week) so I think we just have to accept that he over-produces wax and try to keep it clean for him (should be fun). Like last week the vet was surprised at how old he is and was very impressed with his general condition, especially his coat (which I have to say is looking especially good at the moment) and the fact that he doesn't have a skinny back end like a lot of elderly cats with renal issues (but then Korky doesn't do skinny :  ). We discussed his diet (he won't eat the renal anymore) and although the vet did say to try to get him back on it he agreed that its better he eats 'ordinary' food than doesn't eat. TBH I think he's looked better since stopping the renal food but only his next bloods will tell what the real consequences of that are. Anyway, for now we're happy :)

Glad the vet was happy with him, and good luck with the regular ear cleaning.
