Title: Cat flaps for a very large cat?
Post by: CC & The Pussycat Guys & Dolls on May 06, 2009, 13:50:55 PM
Once the cat proofing is up I need a flap, only problem is Oliver MMP he is massive  ;D

He is far bigger than the rest of my cats, so could imaging him getting stuck in a normal sized one, that would be a sight  :evillaugh:

Any good flaps out there for extra large cats?

I dont need anything fancy or magnetic as it would only be my own coming in. Im sure a rabbit or 2 also  :innocent:

There was a small dog flap already fitted in my old place. It was great for Kylie. The one here is more like squeezing toothpaste out when she goes through  :evillaugh:

This one should be fine  http://www.southcoastpetsupplies.co.uk/mate-large-small-flap-white-p-432.html

Yes there are different sizes of flap and I have a large one cos Misa is enormous. Mine is a catmate one and they are easy to get.

Misa is 6.6 kg and he can get through with ease cos cats are sorta fluid and they can get through much smaller spaces than you think.

How big is your big cat cc?

I think Ted is 6.2kg and Oliver is twice the size of him, really  Ive never seen a cat so big!

Im going to have to weigh him.

I use the dog ones - it is easier for the old ones as well as the big ones!

They had some in Tesco this morning for cats up to 7kg or 15cm shoulder height - 1/2 price, £2.50 - they are 4-way locking - not a brand I have heard of.

Yes but once the cat proofing is up, I want them to be able to come and go as they please. So I dont have to be bothered really  :evillaugh: Although they will most likely follow me around the house meowing to get out the front door  :innocent:

I seen one is Tescos for £4.50 but I really dont think MMP would fit through it lol

I have a catmate 221 for my larger lad Geoffrey (he was 7.2kg when it was installed) and he fits through it comfortably.  I'm really pleased with the quality, he accellerates down the garden and bashes straight through it and it withstands it well.  It also has good draught proofing and sealing, better than the staywells in my opinion.

This website has a good selection, it also has larger flaps/dog doors if you think the 221 won't be big enough http://www.catflaps.com/home.html?rid=google&target=dept_45.html&lang=en-gb
