Just wondering, my gf is a student, is there any places that offer cheap or free vet care for students? Both parent are unemployed also

PDSA will help people on benefits, all they ask is a donation :hug:

They don't help students though, just those on benefits. Cp will help with neutering for students but that's about it. When I was a student I went through a bit of a tough patch financially and looked into help with no avail.
If her parents are on benefits they will be able to go to the PDSA though

Its a bit naughty but her parent's will be able to register the cat as there own! ;)
They will need confirmation of council tax assistance (for low income families etc!)

I believe you need to have the cat registered before it gets ill so dont leave it. Failing that can something be sacrificed for insurance, eg a nights drinking would cover a couple of monthly payments

With the PDSA if there is a PDSA hospital nearby it is not to much of a problem, but in many areas of the UK there is no hospital and then one needs to rely on a vet in the area who does PDSA work. In our area out of 9 vets I can think of and only one does PDSA work. Also for you to get treatment the cat has to be registered first with that vet and the PDSA and that takes up to a month to come through. Also they only cover certain postcodes in any given area. When it is a vet doing PDSA work you can also only register 1 pet, I think it is different for the PDSA hospitals. You are quite right Millys Mum, I know for certain if you use the private vet route the pet has to be registered, so it is important that people register as soon as they get a pet. I think you then gave to re-register every 6 or 12 months.

If only, someone near me smokes constantly, has the biggest plasma TV I have seen but can she afford to take the little one to the vets, no need for me to write the answer you know it. I bet you also know who has to pay. :)

With the PetAid scheme existing conditions aren't covered either.
Are you in an area where there is a PDSA clinic?
