Title: Fed up, stressed, anxious and sad
Post by: Maddiesmum on May 04, 2009, 09:47:03 AM
That's how I am feeling at the moment.  Everything I try to do to help Charlie is thwarted somehow either by Sophie next door who caused him to have a major skitz yesterday, or other things.  I even feel that things conspire to stop us working it out.

The latest saga (following the blackbird babies) is that two strays have been in the area, male and female.  One of my neighbours has been encouraging them and another neighbour (from who Dawn and I rescued those 9 cats) is encouraging the tom cat stray.  The result is that we now have a litter of three newly born kittens in a dilapidated car in one of my neighbour's back gardens.  I suggested we contacted the CP or other rescues to try to get mum and babies taken in but no, "leave things as they are for now".  My neighbour has said he will give the she cat a home once the kittens have gone.  But what will happen when the kittens start to wander round?  How safe will they be then.

I am just fed up of living here, there are now 19 cats between 9 houses, I am fed up of the stress of worrying about Charlie, worrying about blackbirds, worrying, now about cat and kittens.  Today I am looking for a house to rent in a different area and I feel sad because I have lived here 20 years.  My stress levels are through the roof which is not good for me or Charlie and NOTHING is working for us :(  Sorry to burden everyone but need to get it off my chest, am in tears as I am typing this.

I wish there was something helpful to say, I'm not sure I can think of anything. But am sending you a hug.

   The sad thing is that neighbourhoods change. The lovely rural retreat I lived in before I left Tassie is now surrounded with light industry and has a major road running through it. It can be hard to up stakes and move, but it does sound as if that would be the best thing for you at the moment. I hope you find a solution that will allow you and Charlie to have some peace and tranquility and ensure that you do not have to move again ...

Hope you can get this resolved soon

Very true, BC. We've lived here for ten years and until recently we've never seen any real territory disputes for our cats. A ginger cat moved in behind us and is making Spratt a little crazy. It makes me really annoyed because the cat seems quite a nice cat but is unfortunately shut out for long periods of time - so he comes to our house looking for shelter and food. (Hence my Silent Roar thread)

Are you very tired at the moment, Maddiesmum?  You sound as if you are and things take on an even worse perspective then.  Is there any way you can temporarily distance yourself - even if only for an afternoon - to clear your thoughts?

Sorry to hear of your problems.

I have moved a number of times over the years to get a less stressful situation and eventually succeeded.

One of the strange things I noticed whenever I went back to have a look at the area I left, is that the
problem causers had also moved and a result the area was much nicer.

Weird!!

The thing is, if you move the neighbours may be worse. A very difficult situation, but sometimes, better the Devil you know.

We have had people move in a couple of years ago, they have had dogs rehomed 3 times by the local rescue. The last time on the provisio that they had no more. They now have two more, one of which yaps continually. Because I had the temerity to keep reporting them to Environmental Health Agency, I had the ASBO bit of the Police visit me last week. Apparently this 5'8" 12 + stones woman is 'traumatised and nervous' at me turning up at her doorstep twice and asking them to quiet the dog. I am 5' 2" and 6 stone 4lbs. So terrifying, I am sure!

This is such a difficult one and if you are prone to anxiety and stress, then its not necessarily a good idea to move, as moving is at the top of the stress list.

I moved from as terrible situation in London to what is supposed to be my retirement house , rural and quiet! What do I have but a harrassing neighbour with a mouth like a dirty foghorn.

Not only will moving be stressful for you but also for Charlie and its hard to jusge how much he is affected by the events around him against your stress.

All I do know is that if you have lived there 20 years you must have roots there and neighbours do move on and one cannot judge the neighbours in a new location until you have actually moved.

Do you own your house now or rent, because if you own , you would be daft to move tro renting. You have been able to cat proof your garden where you are now and change things as you want for yourself and Charlie but in a rented new place you probably would not be able to do that.

Its a very hard decision and not one to be taken lightly, I understand about anxiety cos I have suffered for years with it and maybe it would be worth speaking to your doctor and getting help for you , a bit like you have for Charlie

Chrissie I'm so sorry to hear that you have been so upset of late. I think it is unfeeling of your neighbour to let the cat and kittens stay out, then take the mum in and let the kittens fend for themselves that is only going to aggravate the situation with stray cats in the area. We all know how many cats come from a few strays. I wished I could come up with a solution for you. It would seem a shame to move after all you have done at home and as others have said you never know what it's like to live in another area till you live there.
I do hope things seem brighter today for you and Charlie sending you  :Luv2: and

So sorry things are so bad for you right now MM but do try to think positively, you look after yourself and Charlie right now and as Christine says take a step back for a while.

Things will turn out ok - you know and behind every cloud - is very true

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your loving and caring support.  I am happy to say that today, for the first time in quite a while, I feel a bit more human again.  I have never experienced anxiety like this and it has not been very pleasant.  Special thanks to Mary and Kate for the unending attempts to help and support me.  I am still not 100% but feel much, much better,  Thank you again you Purrs folk are really something special:)
