Hi again all, getting a bit worried as kittens have still not arrived, how long should i wait before i take her to the vet, iv gone from when i saw her mammary glands were bigger (which is about 40 days i think) so she should have been due last Wednesday, any time scale would be of help
Kerri
-
Just phone vets and have a talk with them, can you feel them moving around? Where are you cos I want a kitten lol
-
cc your gonna have your hands SO full come september LOL.
Not sure if the 40 days since mamary glands gettin bigger is very accurate ?? do you know when roughtly she was caught ??
I'd suggest a vet exam .
-
Its not for me Lynn, Im not allowed anymore babies unless human he say's
-
i didn't catch them at it, i just realised when the mammary glands got big. When i touch her i cant really feel anything but when laying on her side i can see them moving around, today she has been acting very strange, meowing at us allot, staying near to the other cats (which she didn't do before - attacking them) she is still eating though.

Wheres Hampshire

I would consult your vet.
Is the father one of yours ??
-
hampshire is in the southeast

Wheres Hampshire
Where hurricanes hardly happen I believe.
The bottom of England, part of it is directly above Isle of White in fact I think the Island forms part of Hampshire,
-
hampshire is in the southeast
It must have moved slightly then.

It wasn't a case of winning just a case that we have friends on the Isle of Wight who we visit and I didn't want to go where you thought it was and not find them. ;D

Hi Kerri,
You sound like a very anxious mother to be.
Do you know the date of conception or are you unsure? Has Mitsey started sniffing around looking for a nice cosy place to have her babies?
I presume this is her first litter and it is not uncommon for them to go overdue with the first litter - same as humans.
When my cat went into labour with her first litter she was very vocal. When the first kitten was born and took his first breath it was such a relief.
Good luck :ahh:
-
Panic over - -GOOD NEWS she has just had three healthy little adorable kittens.
Just sat done to eat our dinner when mum and dad shoot pass us with Mitsey carring what i thought was a mouse, shouting and scream scarred out my wit run in the other room. When i clamed down i thought pooey it mite be a kitten go to take a peek 1 health kitten that looks like lancer, i was so excited straight after next on pops out the same as lancer again, then we think no more are coming the next one pops out bright ginger :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: proud mum :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

-
Well Done Mitsey.
Kerry you will need to keep other cats away now.
Be prepared for mum to move her kittens to somewhere really quiet.
-
Good news - well done

:Party 3:

Congratulations!
Wow, they are beautiful :Luv: Like Rhona says it's not until you see the scale of Mum's paw that you realise just how tiny they are ;D
When Mum has settled down please can we have regular updates and pics, the last litter that was born to someone on here we had new photos every week. Flora's babies all went to lovely new homes and we are missing pics already!
-
Congrats - do make sure you keep dad separate, mum cats can come back into heat shortly after giving birth, and you dont want her getting pregnant again so soon.

Kerri
Keep them then !!!
I did (kept all 4 that my cat had) it is wonderful to watch them grow up and my Mummy cat still adores her kittens even though they are 2yrs old now !!!!!
-
Please, please be careful at your children handling them - that doesn't look like how tiny kittens should be handled. And you do have to be careful at keeping them, not all mum and siblings get on.
-
Please, please be careful at your children handling them - that
I have to admit that was a concern of mine. I need to say that I am not against families with children having kittens
-
I am not against it either, its just that pic doesn't look like the kitten is in a good position.
-
i thought the pic looked adorable
i thought the little girl was holding the kitten well considering she was only little herself ,
some children are gentle and sensible with animals if they are taught respect ,
i can see ur concern thou as the kitten is only very tiny
but as long as the children are taught from an early age how to hold a little kitten and to be gentle then i say its ok .
-
she was only little herself ,
That just it, although the little girl was obviously being gentle she was not holding the kitten correctly
I don't wish to seem rude, but until you have been in rescue and have dealt with cases where kittens and cats have been damaged (no matter how well meaning the handling was) it really is very difficult to understand the concerns we have.
To me if small child is to handle a kitten they need to be sat down in a comfy chair and just gently hold the kitten properly.
-
she was sat down wasnt she ?
i do know what u mean thou ive seen a cat at our local rspca shelter that was mistreated by young kids and always being pulled about like a rag doll and the poor thing was a nervous wreck , in cases like that its the parents fault for not teaching the child how to respect an animal
its like when i take my dog out i lose count of the number of kids that make stupid growling noises and barking noises at him ( thank god he doesnt react to it ) if i was ever lucky enough to have a child it would be taught from a very young age how precious animals are and how they have to be handled so gently .
but getting bk to kerris picture i really dont see anything wrong there
the kitten doesnt look distressed in anyway to me and she was proberly only holding the kitten for a wee sec just to have a photo taken.
-
HANG>>>ON just a second everyone...(please read entire post before replying) ive come to this forum for advice and help and ever since i joined ive had nothing but trouble with some well established members...this is a forum for all not the local rspca center so to those who havnt got a nice thing to say just dont talk or respond to peoples posts! ive read alot of newbies posts who have joined also for advice and help and they have simply been told off/abused by little remarks/comments. i put money on it you wouldnt tell me off in front of my face.youve been telling us lot to get our cats sprayed or we are really stupid ...maybe you are vets and want the money?hay? dont you DARE tell me what i can and cant do with my daughter...are you now trying to say im a bad parent? our kittens are doing very well and so is the mother.our daughter knows to respect the mum/cats and kittens. were not the 1 in 1000 people that mistreat pets hence why i joined this forum.if i didnt care i wouldnt of bothered...to,but i wish i never did or maybe joined a different forum...i definately wouldnt suggest this forum to anybody. :thanks: to all the good people who have said great comments and given great help and advice. to those who havnt WAKE-UP and read your posts...all you do is seem to lower people right down to the ground, stand above them and laugh.not big or clever! go :censored: yourselves. :evillaugh:
i will be putting a list of those i think are abit out of order and will also forward them to the moderators(they probably are moderators..makes you laugh)
-
Kezmayuk, I'm sorry you feel you've been judged. I haven't read the whole thread, just kind of browsed it.
I don't think anyone is accusing you of being a bad parent, they're just showing concern for the kitten. And with regards to spaying, there is a reason people feel it's necessary as a rule. Not specifically to prevent kittens being produced, but your cat can receive some horrible illnesses if she is unspayed and mates with a tom that's ill. (I'm sure you're aware of that, so sorry if it sounds patronizing.)
Please continue to keep us updated, it's nice to know how kittens are progressing. :)
-
I Hope any of my comments havent offended or upset u kerri
as ive said and will say it again i didnt see anything wrong with the way ur daughter was holding the kitten infact i thought she was holding it consideribly well for a little one of her age
and thought and still do think the pic is adorable .
-
Sorry if you feel offended by my post Kezmayuk, I love parents who show their children how to treat pets with respect, but that pic just looked as though the kitten wasn't being properly held, I was just passing comment on that. I actually have read your entire post. The point of forums isn't just for everyone to post nice posts, if we see something that is wrong, we have to say something, and not everyone will like it. And I probably would say it to your face - my comment about mum and siblings was in response to CC's post, she is lucky that her family has got on, not everyone is that lucky, so it was just to make you aware that they dont always get on, even my vet was surprised when I told her that. My reasoning for 'telling' people to get their cats spayed is that I have had to have a cat put to sleep less than 2 months after adopting her due to her having mammary cancer because she was never spayed. Plus the fact that I Would love for us to have a nice summer without a lot of mums and kittens, esp better than last year when we had to have 2 litters put to sleep, and lost 2 mum cats as well.
-
she was sat down wasnt she ?
Yes it did look like the liittle one was in a chair
I don't think anyone is accusing you of being a bad parent, they're just showing concern for the kitten
Spot on. Our branch of Cats Protection is actually one of the branches (certainly not all are and many other rescues are not either) who are happy to home where there are young children as I believe you can teach children to respect animals, however, in this case it is just that the kitten is so young, there is certainly no malice intended, but as previously posted, us in rescue have seen the implications of children and indeed others sometimes of handling such young kittens. If handled they really do be to be completly held and I would say a little older.
-
kerri , i do hope u will continue to post and let us know how the kittens are doing and i do hope u will continue to post the photos as i would love to see them week by week and see them grow.
-
I was just about to reply to the comments on the pic and to say that it was quite clear the little girl was sitting right back into the seat and was gently cupping the kitten so as not to hurt it (i would have objected seeing her gripping her hands around it etc but she wasnt). Personally yes i'd say it would be better for her to just have the kitten on her knee and stroke it and i'd presume/hope she was holding it up merely for the camera . I also think that had the kitten fallen it was going to land not very far down on her lap because she was sitting properly in her seat.
I personally dont think kittens that small need/should be handled ALL the time and again i'd hope she doesnt but i didnt feel the kitten was in grave danger from the pic altho i can understand that is all some others were concerned about.
I only see people trying to give helpful advice and normally always with the cats welfare at heart, just some have better ways of typing it than others, I know i can get misunderstood at times.
I hope you do continue to post and give us updates on how the kittens are getting along.
ps We only advice so strongly on the neutering etc as it is so definatley the right thing to do in every case looking at it from all angles there is no justified argument not to neuter. This forum is really meant to be mostly about rescue/rehoming/advice etc altho there is alot more to it than that but there isnt any alterior motives to advice given.
-
but i didnt feel the kitten was in grave danger from the
I wasn't meaning the kitten was in grave danger, but I think a 4 day old kitten really needs be handled, if at all with 'kid gloves'. Again I would say until you have dealt with numerous situations that have resulted from the handling of small kittens and cats sometimes you would just not realize the implications and it is fully understandable why you wouldn't.
Possibly as a vet nurse you may have seen the implications but as you know if something happens not everyone takes the kitten or cat to the vet for fear of getting into trouble.
-
I agree with Lynn.
At 4 days i would be worrying about mum getting antsy with the movement of her young and then her deciding i could handrear them
-
i can safely say the kitten was only having its photo taken and i was there if the kitten was in any danger. mummy is fine with us handling them, we don't do it all the time, but mitsey is fine when we do. just handled one a moment ago and i think it is starting to open its eyes, will keep you updated :Luv: :Luv:, but please i wouldn't let the kitten be handled or my daughter hold it if mummy wasn't OK with it or if i thought it was in any danger.
Kerri

kerri , i do hope u will continue to post and let us know how the kittens are doing and i do hope u will continue to post the photos as i would love to see them week by week and see them grow.
I can only echo what forever has said, I'm glad that you will continue to post and I'm sorry if you have been offended by any of the posts on here - it's safe to say that they only have the best interests of the cats at heart and I'm sure no offence was meant ;D
Ooh, if you are struggling to upload pics (I'm sure you said you were on dial up) then feel free to email them to me (address in profile) and I will post them for you :)
-
Glad you came back and weren't too offended, Kerri.
You have a lovely daughter and it's apparant how much she cares for animals already, so well done for teaching her compassion at such an early age!
Looking forward to kitten updates. :)
-
I am glad you are going to keep us updated - I didn't mean to offend - another thing to be careful of when taking pics when tehy are so young is the flash, as they are starting to open their eyes it can cause probs, so you should use something like a tissue over the lens, and then lighten on the PC.

Ahhhhh. I can't remember mum cats name, but she is GORGEOUS! And the kittens......utterly sweet. :)
-
when i look at ur kittens i feel better hoping that if my makosi is pregnant then it will b a happy time and everything will b ok
but when i read the posts about the things that can go wrong i feel a nervous wreck
i get tearful
and think im so bad and irrisponsible for ever letting the situation arise
she should of been spayed at 6mths old now shes 19mths old
i feel a disgrace compared to everyoneelse ere .
-
Forever, don't be so hard on yourself. You're trying to do what's best for your cats and sometimes it's hard to know what that is. She's going to be spayed now and that's what matters.
-
don't feel like that, when they come you will be over joyed, i was really scared by what everyone was telling me, if it was to go wrong, my partner was stressed as i was going on and on when she was giving birth thinking something would go wrong, i wish i just enjoyed her having them, i think i panicked mitsey as well, just keep clam and if anything was to happen you've got the vets to hand, I'm sure this wont happen, just enjoy
:Luv: kerri
-
thank u jack and kerri

They are beautiful babies as is your daughter, you must be a very proud cat/human Mum! :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

Maybe she should have, but we all do things we shouldn't and fail to do things we should. It's called being human, so don't be too hard on yourself.
-
Yea i guess so
thanks

Life is for learning and if you learn by what you feel are mistakes and pass your new found knowledge on to others that is a good thing.
-
i love the pics and the little red one esp is just lush, not that i am biased or anything LOL
Ela i do agree completely with you and prevention is better than cure / fix. my problem would be if it was my 2 1/2 daughter and furry baby is if i let her hold it she'd want to do it all the time (novelty only natural) Apart from a little check over each day i dont think such young babies need to be picked up really much at all.
Kerri im glad you are sticking with us and hopefully you'll pick up useful advice from us and vice versa. I would say ive got a fair bit of experience and knowledge but am glad to say i have learned lots from others here and am continuing to do so. (you are now possibly in a good position to help others who are worried about cats with young children and now also what to do if their cat is going to have kittens) we all have different experiences and we can share them and our knowledge through wonderful forums like this one. ;D
Looking forward to next lot of pics, have you named the babies yet ?

I agree with all you say and can understand why Anya would think it OK to pick up the little one.

thanks everyone for your sopport, no names yet, let me know what names you come up with :wow: :wow:
:Luv: kerri

Hey, that's not fair.... I saw your name next to this thread as being the last poster and rushed in expecting to see more pics - only to see you are teasing us!
What sort of names do you like - real 'human' ones or non human?

-
Kez - dont worry too much about weaning, they will learn from mum how to do that, just make sure from about 4 or 5 weeks there is another plate of nice mushy wet food so they can try it out if they want to. Good luck with the names.
-
Austin & Martin?
-
And mercedes for the girl
-
 @ tans censoring..dogs grapes !! thats a good one LOL
yes i like performance cars etc and i love speed (not the drug lol) but an old banger evo think its the first type that looks totally dated and needs about 1 - 2 k spent on it every year coz of electrical etc probs isnt what i consider to be a "smart" car , oh and just coz its got a "dump valve" doesnt mean it has an extra 100 horse LOL --- my friends hubbys is such a bore about his car.

They are lovely :Luv:
Please follow up their neuterings, dilute torties are not very common and people can get ideas for trying to make money. :-:
-
dilute torties are not very common
im abit thick what does it mean
kerri
-
Rather than being black and red (with or without hite) they are blue and cream (with or without white). To get a dilute cat both parents need to carry the dilute gene.
-
im sorry im still not on track do you mean eye colour?
-
No the fur colour. In the picture of 'mummy' below you can see her fur is black, red and white as she is a tortie with white. In a 'dilute tortie' with white the fur is blue and cream with white.
-
the kittens will be 8 weeks on the 30th of april, there all eating food now but most days still eat from mum, my neighbour has ask if she can have her one tomorrow, i said it was ok but now im abit worried? would she be ok to go or should i keep her with mum till 8 weeks?
-
would she be ok to go or should i keep her with mum till 8 weeks?
Kittens need to be with their mum until that are at least 8 weeks old.
-
Preferably 12 weeks, they learn important social skills from being with mum that bit longer!
-

Theres no way i would let your neighbour have the kitten yet. If they arnt 8wks till the 30th they are bearly 7wks old.
Speak to your neighbour and explane they arnt old enough to leave Mum yet, if she gets funny then she isnt the right person to have one as she isnt doing what is best for the kitten
Personally i wouldnt let them go until they are 12wks !!
-
Agree with the others, they are only 7 weeks old, so too young really. Good luck in convincing your neighbour - and dont let her wear you down to agreeing!!
-
oh no id defo not let her have the kitten yet its too early
and i agree with what michelle said if ur neighbour gets funny over it then pehaps shes not the right person to have the kitten in the first place
id keep them with there mummy till they were 12 weeks
they r so cute i want one lol :Luv: :Luv:
theres no way id be abale to part with any of them though id have to keep them all :Luv:
-
is there an actual time scale for when kittens can leave there mum, i mean written information anywhere, my three cats iv got from roughly 6 weeks to 8 weeks.
When can they go!!!!!!
-
Absolute minimum of 8-9 weeks but it's far better to keep them until they are 12-13 weeks old.
-
8 weeks is the mimumin age for kittens/pups. NOT LESS THEN 8 WEEKS. Altho when gettin weaned they will still feed occasionally from mum, also mum does more then just feed them shelll be teaching them ,
I think theres to many problems when they get taken away from mum under the 8 week age & running the risk of losing them
-
i got 5 out of my 7 as little kittens
Bailey and Bridie was 9 weeks when i took em home
Flossy and pickles was 8 weeks
and i was told makosi was 6 weeks old but when i took her to my vet for a health check and to get her flea n worm treatments etc my vet said she was more like just 5 weeks old and i was proberly lied to just so the woman selling the kittens could get rid and get some money ,
makosi was so small when i got her she fitted in my hand and even her little face hadnt grown very much her eyes looked way too big for her face bless her :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

Aww I love the mammy, she is beautiful ;D

-
thats a brilliant photo. You should enter that one in the cat show ;D
Lancer is a stud muffin ;)
-
lynn : how do i do that
regards
kerri
-
it hasnt started yet but look for the threads on the cat show, its a fundraising event so we pay to enter our little pride and joys into the comp and the money raised goes to good cause.
there is a rediculous amount of catagorys lol (makes it more expensive for us hee hee) so you'd have to select which class to enter your prespective bundles..Reckon lancer defo needs to go in aswell.
-
with lancer his a cross pedigree, can i entre him in the pedigree section?
gone from my mind what he is lol british short hair silver tabby i think (is that right)?
-
No you wont be able to because a pedigree x is still basically a moggie and not a full pedigree. (as far as i am aware but gill will keep you right)
-
Yep that's right Lynn as Tigger has got to go in Non Ped section and both of her parents are peds just unfortunately different ones lol.
-
would the kittens in the box go under
48. Chocolate box cat or
30. Kitten up to 1 yr on 1 Jul 07
but then theres 3 kittens?
-
im not sure but its too cute a pic not to put in im sure. best to pm gill sneakyfeline i think and get it from the horses mouth itself.
-

-
awwww the ginger one looks so much like my bailey and bridie when they were babies :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
-
Mmm im not actually sure that looks quite normal . you say she can move it but can she make it go "normal" like the others tails ???
I'm sure even if there is an abnormality its obviously not doing her any harm but may be worth taking her along to the vet for their opinion.
-
its wired as she does it when she's excited, like when i go to stroke her or when shes playing, well most of the time, but yes she can keep it straight, is it something to really worry about?
-
Mmm so you are saying that normally her tail is in the same position as the others and looks exactly the same except when she gets excited she does this ?
The only "normal" time i can think of a female cat doing this on a regular basis is when she is in season.
I know some cats can become sexually mature very very young but i would have thought she really is too immature for that just now ?
-
And no i dont think its something to worry about, perhaps it is just going to be "her" but see what the others say on this here and perhaps she may be a candidate for slightly earlier than normal spaying.
-
First thing that springs to my mind when I see that is that the first few bones in the tail could be fused. Is her tail capable of hanging down onto the floor?
-
i thought of physical abnormality first too lottie but kez says she can straighen her tail, i presume that to be properly straight ?
glad you think its odd aswell though LOL

-
that looks 100% normal there ;D
so is she an affectionate excitable little thing then ? and has she always done this or is it something very new ? (bearing in mind i know shes only 7 or 8 wks old LOL)
-
she is very active, and only noticed it about a week ago, it wasnt like it at brith, im just checking through photos, can i put a video on here?
-
Kez I just got an email back from that lady i spoke of and she thinks its most interesting.
she left me these 3 links, not sure if any of them apply but its interesting all the same.
http://www.centralpets.com/animals/mammals/cats/cat5773.html
http://www.messybeast.com/curly-tailed.htm
http://www.petpublishing.com/catkit/breeds/japbobtail.shtml
I have now passed on a pic of her sleeping with the tail straight and one of mummy cat ;D
-
think the messybeast link most interesting and you will notice that jarbos tail goes straight aswell !
-
Awww, Cassie is a beautiful girl. My tabby torti regularly has her tail in that shape, and quivering! She's very exciteable. :)
-
cheers Lynn for the sites i will pass them on to new owners, nether seen anything like it lol
there both up at the mo full of energy :sneaky:, little butter, but i love them :Luv:
