Title: LONG OVERDUE NOAH UPDATE AND PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: wharfevalley catsprotection on April 20, 2009, 12:27:36 PM: Well Noah is finally out of the vets and settling into his foster space!

He is the size of a small house and inhales food at a rate of notts! His paws are still a bit sore and therefore we're still looking for an indoor home with no other cats or dogs as he doesn't like them.

I'll be forever grateful that he didn't end up pts by the RSPCA and our amazing vets gave him the chance for a new home.

Apart from his "poorly paws" an indoor home is probably best for him as an all white boy would be so prone to sunburn as well.

He really is gorgeous and I'm sure you will have no trouble finding him the special home he so rightly deserves :hug:

laminate flooring is going to have advantages for her over dark carpeting, that's for sure :rofl: - and I think it is softer to the feet than a lot of carpet

Thought I'd sign up to introduce myself as Noah's new mum! I'm delighted to have been offered him, as he is just gorgeous and seems full of character. Noah will be staying in foster care for another week or two while I get organised at home, but I am reliably informed that he is much loved there. Will continue to call him Noah as it seems to suit him and I'd like to make the transition as easy as possible. Been busy today browsing online at stuff to keep my new boy happy and healthy ...

:thanks: to everyone for the warm welcome! I am amazed Noah hasn't been snapped up before now as he's so beautiful and a real rags-to-riches story, so I feel very lucky to have been chosen for him. As soon as I can work out how to use my digital camera, I promise to attempt photos that make him look as well as he does with his foster mum: I think I have a tough act to follow! I've spoken with her this evening and she's been really helpful - I am looking forward to meeting her and Noah soon, and hope she will come visit once he's settled.

Not decided what to do about a cat tree/ activity centre: I've been hunting for something plush so that it won't aggravate Noah's paws but not finding anything 'just right'. He's a very big lad by all accounts so no point in the ones with kitten-sized hidey holes! It sounds like claws will mainly be a job for the vet, which is good as it means his paws can have a regular inspection.

I saw on Money Saving Expert (Which I should look at properly as I am the official Purrs ~~Miser~~ money saver :evillaugh: ) that some people recommended PAH own brand in the silver bag. There are a few on here that swear by it including Helen whose 2 boys have grown up on it and if they are anything to go by........

I would buy it myself but I have to buy renal and obesity food for my lot.

He's had 2 foster mummies and both have loved him lots so i'll make sure that any pics are sent to both of them as it's always hard to say goodbye to them.

Hmm, yes in terms of the activity centre I would say something softer would be good (although might need replacing more often) - I did see some cheaper ones in Tesco Direct and Argos which might be good - he's a chunky boy and LOVES his food though and might pull a lighter one over lol!

PS - Noah is such a special boy that we really have waited for the best home for him - so many people were put off by him being white or boisterous and we waited for someone to love him for being him!! We're very lucky to have found Firefox!

I love the personality of playful cats and have a large living area to chase around: nice soft rug too, so Noah can play on that if his paws are sensitive. I'm guessing he won't want to use a sisal scratcher, so I am looking for a cat tree that is mainly plush with sisal just on the uprights so he has the option. I liked this best, but want something bigger:

Noah apparently already has lots of smaller toys sent in by his fan club, and particularly likes a fishing rod and a furry mouse. I'm afraid the only sensible stuff I have bought are feeding bowls and cat grass!

I ordered the Turbo Tracks from the Purrs shop - I wouldn't have paid £7 delivery if it wasn't for a good cause! However they are out of stock, so won't arrive before Noah. :'(

A decision has (almost) been made on the cat tree: I have e-mailed a local company to price up adding a bed to this:

The Purrs shop postal prices go on weight and the turbo track is quite bulky/heavy - you could have added lots of other little bits to the order without the postage price going up. Sorry, not helpful after the event is it :shy: Tan imports lots of the toys from the US so Noah will be one of the few UK cats to own one :wow:

I have met Noah and ... :catlove2: He had a cuddle on my lap and purred away, no sign of any hissing or nipping which he does occasionally when frightened! Noah's foster mum has worked wonders building up his trust. I am, of course, covered in white fur! ;) Luckily my sofa, rug, towels and duvet cover are off white so Noah's hair will blend in beautifully. Really looking forward to his arrival next weekend!

His fosterer typed up his likes and dislikes which is brilliant as you don't always know so much about a rescue cat. I need a week to get organised: I've just placed an order with PetPlanet for dry food, litter, litter tray and carrier so need this to arrive before Noah! Also my boyfriend is moving out late in the week :( so it wouldn't be fair to bring Noah into the disruption.

Smelly fishy food has been consumed but he isn't interested in his favourite laser toy. I am presently sitting on the sofa and talking to him every so often, hopefully he will explore the sitting room undisturbed overnight.

I know they can take a while to settle - I had a gorgeous little black female from the RSPCA who lived under the spare bed for the first week, but turned into a very loving cat after a couple of months. I just feel so sorry for Noah he's had a tough day with both a car and van journey, a quick visit to the vet and then being abandoned in an alien environment. :scared:

When I adopted Poot 2 months ago, he spent the first few days mostly hiding under the bed and generally being scaredy, to look at him now you'd never now how nervous he had been.

Noah has well and truly landed on his paws, he just needs a bit of time to figure that out :hug: :Luv2:

Late yesterday evening Noah emerged gingerly for more food, a drink, use the litter tray and sniff all around the sitting room before taking up residence on top of one of my storage units (worktop height and size) for a very thorough wash. He eyed up the sofa where I was sat but didn't make a move :scared: although he did allow me to approach him and headbutted me for a stroke, but no purring.

This morning I was greeted by miaows, Noah telling me I was rather late serving breakfast! He's had a little more fishy cat food, a half hour of :catlove2: with lots of purring before returning to his vantage point on top of the unit for his morning ablutions. He seems MUCH more relaxed today, if all goes well I will attempt photographs tomorrow. Noah's favourite toy mouse has moved overnight, so will try playing a bit later!

Yes of course you can use any photographs - today's mission is to work out how to use my digital camera and upload pictures (not very technical :-[).

We had lots of cuddles and purring yesterday, but Noah seemed too distracted by new sights and sounds to want to play much. He did briefly retreat under the sofa when I opened the windows for a bit of air - not impressed by bus engines, a dog barking, the clock tower chiming or a group of men shouting! But he emerged quickly after each fright and seems to enjoy watching the world go by. I *think* I was awoken at 4am by miaowing, but when I came out to Noah he was on the sofa and didn't appear to be distressed at all. A little more :Luv: before I went back to bed: not sure whether he was bored, lonely, hungry or cold ... seems fine this morning.

Noah has graduated from the storage unit to sitting beside me on the sofa most of the day, which is lovely but no good for photos as he is effectively camoflaged! :rofl: The few times he has been off the sofa he has been very camera shy, and even retreated under the sofa again for a brief period this evening. I've also noticed Noah has a 'safe zone' which doesn't include the kitchen end of the room so have moved his feeding bowl up to encourage him to explore.

Noah remains largely superglued to the sofa but as of yesterday was given access to the rest of the flat. He has explored over multiple forays, returning regularly as if to check that everything was ok - very cute! Unfortunately if I attempt to follow him for a photo-opportunity he hightails it back in to the living area. :-: He didn't sleep with me last night, and was upset for a couple of hours this morning after I vacuumed so there is still lots of work to be done. He's started to play in short bursts, both with me and solo which is funny to watch - he has a felt fish that he hugs with his front paws and kicks with his back legs! :) Noah is absolutely adorable, very affectionate and well behaved - doesn't attempt to go onto the kitchen worktops or scratch anything other than his scratching box: all in all I am a very lucky slave!

Noah is now playing more but still not for long each time: this afternoon he was chasing in circles and pouncing on nothing which was very funny! His foster mum says she has never seen him do that, I think it's because he has a big open space to play in. He has been naughty for the first time trying to scratch on one of my oak doors, and miaowed at me when I told him off. :Luv2: Noah has two cardboard scratch boxes that he uses daily but maybe he needs something vertical as well?

I thought about Da Mouse as Noah has a mouse very similar that he likes to bat around, but thought I might get the furry tail-like attachment instead as it would be softer? Do you just pull Da Mouse along the floor? Whatever I order next, it's unlikely that this will be my last Purrs shop purchase!! I have my eye on the Rattle Pongs and also some straight extensions to the Turbo Track. I am recommending Purrs shop regularly on the MSE forums, as the customer service is very good and the toys unique in the UK!

I had a spare da mouse in my make up case for ages, one day a week or so ago Riley was on the bed and spotted him and was desparately trying to get him. I hid him and carried on doing my make up but for a week after Riley was obsessed with the make up case as he was looking for Mr Mouse. He even started chewing the corner of the case to try and get him - it's one of those metal flight case type things! :doh:

It's made out of a brush type material and is teeny but very attractive to cats apparently!

:rofl: Cats are so funny! Noah just chased around after the laser pointer, and as he cornered on the rug he caught the (fire) door which is propped open with a huge rubber wedge. The door started to close and Noah's back end leapt in the air. Instead of scooting off in fright as I expected he crouched low and stared at the wedge with his head on one side, then started patting it with one paw!! :Luv:

I am not the only one recommending Purrs shop on MSE, but I do keep posting links to or recommending YouTube to see how the toys work. Once you have seen the Turbo Track or Da Bird you are going to want one!! ;)

He purred loudly before I'd even got it into his bowl and then promptly devoured it. As Noah much preferred to eat raw meat on my cream rug rather than the washable laminate, I folded the rug in two. Very funny solo play this evening, sticking his head inside the two halves of the rug and pouncing on nothing along the rolled edge! :rofl: I think a chicken wing might just be the thing to keep him still long enough for a photo opportunity ...

Noah stayed on my bed for two and a half hours, we had a cuddle and then he settled down by my legs. I say 'settled' but actually he was intermittently having a very thorough wash and pouncing on the appliqued ribbons on my duvet cover!! :rofl: Last night he played football for ages with a ball of tin foil.

Also had our first (hopefully last) wee out of the tray when very bad slave did not clean the tray quickly enough. :censored: Have ordered a Dragonfly toy as penance; next purchase to be a second litter tray!

Seemed a bit flummoxed pushing them under tho ... He does play a lot in the night so must have been practicing! :) Just ordered Da Bird, fur attachment, straights for the Turbo Track and a honeysuckle squirrel from the Purrs shop.

But I will update anyway! I was marvelling the other day with Noah asleep on my lap how settled he is in just six weeks or so. He has met my aunt then my best friend, then my parents AND brother all in one go without disappearing under the sofa or nipping anyone! Noah is turning into quite the chatterbox, and is especially noisy first thing when he wants feeding - if miaowing sat in the doorway doesn't work then headbutting and purring in my ear rarely fails. :naughty:

Noah goes wild for the Original Dragonfly, leaping and pouncing for ten minutes without licking his legs as he's done before. His fosterer thought this might be sensitivity in his paws after too much activity so I don't play too long in any one session but, having read the behaviour guides, I wonder if some was frustration as he was mostly playing with the laser toy? Can't wait for Da Bird to arrive - we also have Da Furry attachment, will get Da Mousey and Kitty Kopter next time as they come so highly recommended.

I am, of course, ecstatic with my enslavement and like to think Noah is getting quite attached to me too, as he gets quite stroppy if I am busy about the flat rather that sitting cuddling! :Luv: It's a mystery to me how such an affectionate and beautiful boy ended up on the streets and a further mystery how, in such a state, he survived that awful snow to be rescued by the wonderful Adel CP.

The final sentence is a genuine message from Noah himself to you all as he just stepped on the laptop! :rofl:

Shirley - it was our CP branch here in Adel (Leeds) that found Noah one frosty morning back in March. The RSPCA had been called 3 times but not responded and so our intrepid trappers went off to find a 'sick looking' cat in a council estate in Leeds.

Well as you can see from the pics, what she found was a filty mass of urine and poo soaked fur, cowering in a bin shed in a lady's home. He stunk to high heaven and we just didn't know whether he'd make it (in fact we really did think it would be a one way trip to the vets for Noah)

His paws suffer from a condition that makes them swell and burst if left untreated (perfectly fine if care is taken and a steroid injection given at the first signs of any trouble)

I have to say that although the branch cared for Noah, it was really the WONDFERFUL vets at Baildon that got him better. He was in the vets for around 12 weeks and they didn't charge us full price (a god send!) and took such amazing care of him. They are the ones who gave him a chance and when we though PTS might be the best course, they said they thought he had a chance of pulling through.

Honestly, all at the branch are so fond of Noah and he's got quite a following on here! Forefox is the best owner we could have ever hoped for for him and we're thrilled he's (gently!) landed on his paws!

Sadly it isn't unbelievable as we hear stories like it all the time where the RSPCA just aren't interested.

We had a case a couple of years ago where a cat was at a vet with a broken pelvis after being in an RTA. The vet had called them and they mentioned max £60 which obviously isn't enough to treat broken bones. He phoned our branch (CP) and Sharon agreed to take the cat on. The vet (Companion Care in PAH, Canterbury) were very good and said they would only charge us for the expensive metalwork they had to order in and would do all surgery for free :)

We often hear of people reporting strays, even pregnant ones and they are usually told not to feed them and they will go away >:( - which is the opposite of our advice which is to check the cat is being fed and try to help.

Anyway, Noah is a special boy :Luv2:

My ex's mom and dad have a mom and kittens in their neighbours garden at the mo and when she rang the RSPCA she was told 'as long as mom is feeding the babies, they'll be ok'!!! That was in August and they're still there. I've also phoned CP and a local rescue, no joy. I appreciate everywhere is full, but they need trapping and neutering or there'll be more than a mom and 2 kittens to sort out!

And yes, Noah is adorable xx

Will also need a kitty kopter, replacement feathers for Da Bird, a sparkler attachment ...

This weekend I have raided my savings and ordered a shiny new laptop, landline and fixed broadband, which I probably won't be able to fathom either. :-[ I *think* the new laptop has a memory card slot, but as I don't actually own a memory card this is probably not such a big deal ...

Surprisingly I am completely au fait with online shopping. :rofl:

I got a new camera out of my catalogue ( not overly expensive - its a panasonic one ) - it uses sd cards and they are only around £6 -i was suprised as the fuji i had used to be double that and more.
The fuji is so old now i can''t find any memory cards for it as it doesn''t take all the new formats !

I am not that good -but with a card reader its so easy it does it for you .

Also in the member's only sects there is a sub sect for any Tech and/or pc probs.....Anything can be asked in there with ref to gaining pc knowledge....We have our resident brain on hand most of the time! :hug:
