Is this normal for cats?
Our eldest cat Suki often freaks me and my husband out by sleeping with her eyes open.
We'll see her curled up somewhere, with her eyes open so we think she's awake. We stroke her and 'prrrrooowwww' - she wakes up.
It's really freaky as you can see her looking at you - but she's sound asleep!
Does anyone elses cat do this?

Yup, my youngest cat has a horrible habit of doing it. It is very unnerving at first, but we're pretty much used to it, now!

sleeping with her eyes open.
Thats what I try to do if I have one too many, that is after I have jumped on the bed as it spun round. ;D

Oh thank goodness it's not just ours then!
I always feel really bad when we do stroke her as she is getting on (10yrs) and dont want to scare her awake!

most cats when in a deep sleep will have their eyes closed. I guess they might be in a state of semi asleep/ semi awake when their eyes are open like what they might have had to do in the wild ?

Dunno about cats, but I used to sleep with one eye open when I was a toddler, and that used to freak my mother out!

i sure i read somewhere that cat have a few states of sleep (like us) The eyes open bit is the deepest part usually preceded with lots of twitching which looks very odd too  I thought mine was was having a heart attack the first time i saw it.

the twitching is very common i think.
