Title: covcats - can anyone foster 2 cats - RIP Ginger
Post by: Angiew on April 17, 2009, 12:54:05 PM
Sorrry, I hate this sort of thread but I've just had a call from a lady who has been feeding her neighbours 2 cats since Jan when the neighbour died.

One of the cats is as least 15, very thin now suffering with diarrhea and vomiting and the other is ok at about 8 years old.
They are very close and ideally need to go together.
The house has been closed up for some time and these 2 cats are living in the garden.

Anyone local who could do a bit of fostering for us. We will of course pay vet bills and food....

Well I say with us but so far we only have one of them - the old ginger and white one called Ginger with the bad teeth and diarrhea. Still he was the most important one and when the second one is caught they can be reunited.

Ginger s very grateful to be in a house and has that wonderful appreciative 'thank god you've rescued me' attitude. Poo is nice and smelly a bit grey (is that liver?) but not too runny he is painfully thin and lightweight.

Such a shame they have been left to the kindness of a neighbour - there is a daughter in London somewhere but shr doesn't seem to have bothered with anything - shame on her!

Got this email from Jean, Ginger's fosterer....

"Not good on the Ginger vet visit, he suspects alimentory lymphona.
Major differential I B S. The only thing to try is a course of steroids to see if we can make the food do some good and he'll see him in 10 days. He doesn't think cat is suffering and give him what he fancies. Harvey thinks tests would be a waste as would only serve to confirm what he can feel on the cat on examination. "

We are having a sad time of it at the moment!

Fingers crossed the steriods help, I am surprised they aren't recommending a bland food though, that is what Mabel had with her intestinal lymphoma.

Just got back from leafleting the RSPCA/CP day in nuneaton (to take place at the camp hill education sports and social club CV10 9DN from 12 - 7 on friday ONLY for microchipping and neutering leaflets - spread the word!)

Jean has left a message that poor old Ginger died today. Don't have any more details have left a message for her. She must be devastated.

At least he had 5 or 6 weeks of love and care and living in a house.

RIP poor old ginger, go and swap gossip about CCG with Ebony on the Bridge.

Oh! Angie,
It was only last night that we were passing his lovely 'photograph that Jean had proudly brought with her to the Cat Group meeting.  Do you remember everyone saying how lovely his eyes were last night?  Also how lovely  he had kept his whiskers, how long they were?

I think we will have to remind Jean how he would have appreciated all her efforts to help him.  She is a lovely lady and I hope it has not knocked her confidence in fostering.  As you know I suffered my first deaths with the two foster kittens, and then their Mum being run over in a supposedly residential area.  Then on Christmas Day how the lovely Jill lost her life to a driver who didn't stop, and was probably still worse for drink from the night before.  It does hurt, but we have to think of the ones that we DO manage to help.

Rest easy little man some people cared enough to try and help you.

I am so sorry to hear this, but he was in a warm house with someone who loved him, and didn't have to go cold and lonely, he was lucky for that. This is the hard part of taking in oldies off the streets, but I always find it is offset by the knowledge that they got a home environment, love, warmth and good food, even if it wasn't for very long, and it helps me to cope.
