Title: Billy Whiz has a cold
Post by: Rosella moggy on April 12, 2009, 09:04:38 AM
Billy has been sneezing for past 2 or 3 days. Noticed him licking top lip/nose quite a bit and this morning his eye is gungy.

However nothing wrong with his appetite and apart from perhaps sleeping a bit more than usual, he's otherwise pretty OK. No chance of getting close enough to wipe eye and hoping others esp little uns don't come down with it.  A few healing vibes would be nice....

Big hugs to Billy

Might be worth getting him in the vets on Tuesday if he's still the same or worse - a gunky eye sounds like a possible infection?

Best to keep an eye on him as 2 of our boys had similar symptons but then had a case of larangitus (of all things!) a little while ago which lasted a couple of weeks for them.

Thankfully they can treat that as Jasper (who was worse - as when you stroked his throat he tried to cough but couldnt) had a course of tablets which helped him get better (though I had to crush them and put it in steak for him to eat it mind!).

Keep an eye on him, as when we were at the vets on Saturday, one of the nurses asked how our boys were with their larangitus as her cat came down with it too, so there is a bug going around.

Poor Billy Whiz, loads of healing vibes from me, if the mucus is yellow/green then it indicates infection and he will need some antibiotics from the vet

Cheers all.  I'll certainly keep an eye on his eye. So far pretty watery but will trap him for vet visit if necessary  :shify:

So wish he was a bit more chilled out

No, just a mixed up kid (age 5 next month) and not "pickupable".  He is great with the vet of course  ;) if I can get him there....

Jack's got a cold too, Rosella. I get really paranoid about it but I should be used to it because he's really prone to them! Sage had a runny eye the other day, but it seems alright now.

Get better Billy!

I really feel for cats with colds as unless there is infection there its just a case of making them as comfortable as you possibly can till the  :censored: thing goes!

Sending healing vibes to Billy Whiz~~~~~

Thanks very much for vibes for our little man.  No change really and no sign of anything amiss with the others. Appetite still absolutely fine but runny eye, runny nose and sneezing on and off.  Kept everyone in last night coz of Billy's cold and also heard what sounded like a large dog barking out the back last night (prob neighbours had visitors) so we had a lock down. Quite successful until 4.30am when 5 of the 6 (Dinah is never any trouble) erupted  :tired:  OH couldn't take any more by 5.30am and locked up babies and opened flap.

Sorry that Jack has his cold back JS. It is always more of a worry with puds in later years (as with hoomans) but (as with hoomans) moreserious if appetite affected so hope Jack's eating OK.  Little headbutt to Sage the babe  :)

hope he feels better soon. I think it's this weird weather we are having, lots of human viruses about too. Can you use fucithalmic on Billy Whiz?

Not a chance with eye ointment but thanks for the suggestion.  Billy's eye that's running is the same one as had eye infection a few months back.  Billy had a couple of injections (inc long lasting AB) coz he sort of lost the plot when vet tried to put eye ointment in and I ended up with a plaster.  I just laughed when vet suggested I might try doing it at home.  This is one reason I'm waiting this out rather than thinking of taking him to vet.

Don't get me wrong, Billy isn't in the least aggressive; just scared stiff when being handled and can't help hurting others in an attempt to get away.  It's very sad and will inevitably cause problems in treatment over the years.  He's good with the vet and VNs .....as long as they are really quick  ;)

Cheers Ruth & Lexy x

Poor Billy - makes you wonder why they're like it, doesn't it?

can you even touch his eye with your fingertip, as I believe that fucithalmic does get absorbed a bit if you put some on your finger and just smear it round the eye, rather than try to put it right in the eye. The latter's better but mighty hard to do even with a cooperative feline!

Aaaw thanks for thinking of our little boy .  His nose was quite drippy this am when he woke up.

Hope you won't be offended to hear that I had a good  at last post.  There's really no chance of me getting within a foot of touching his eye. He knows you see.  I don't know how... he just does. Billy picks up on my vibes from yards away.

If I'm gonna scratch his back, he might stay put for a scratch (assuming I approach with confidence) until I think "maybe try to wipe eye now"....and he's off like a whippet. I obviously give out strong anxiety vibes and I get stressed at the thought of stressing him.  I'm absolutely fine with the other 5.

I rang vet this am and spoke to VN.  She said not to worry unless things change (e.g. secondary signs of infection, stops eating etc) but make app if still continuing after 7 to 10 days.  So I'll see how he is on Friday (day 8ish)
