Title: Extra Toes
Post by: forever_missing_my_boys(Lisa) on March 04, 2007, 09:52:37 AM
Hi Everyone, has anyone got a cat who has  extra toes ?
my little max has extra toes on all his paws ,the back paws just look big but the front ones look like he is wearing boxing gloves  my vet said its quite common and it makes it easier for the cat to catch prey and always has its advantages when they are defending there selfs , when i get my pics on here i will include one of his front paws .

oh how cute!  how many toes does max have?  6 on each?  I believe some polydactyl cats have 7 toes.

I'm not sure how common it is but it's certainly not uncommon.  It seems to be more common in certain geographic locations - so I'd guess it's hereditary?  Hemingway cats are mostly polydactyl I think?

You know your stuff Susanne, it does seem Hemingway had a soft spot for them. I also agree with the geographic location, in any case that is how it has been in these parts. Possibly some rampant Tom

thats great, it does look like he's got boxing gloves on doesnt it.

My fave polydactyl was a lovely boy who had 2 extra toes on each 4 feet..as usual they were bigger than normal so you can imagine the size of his feet !!! ..... aaaww i used to be over joyed if he came in for anything, his sister also had extra toes but hers werent a huge amount bigger so altho she had big feet not on the same scale as her fabby brother.

Ruth...with the way cody was this weekend i'd gladly have given him to you LOL...altho his behaviour abit better today so perhaps i'll give him a reprieve just now.
