My bi colour Raggie Maddy has lost weight and isn't eating properly.
Just got back from vets. She has taken bloods. So far nothing glaringly obvious.
I'm feeling very frightened right now.
She is a very special cat to me. My very first ragdoll.
-
Philip all paws crossed here
Sounds like it could be a couple of things - Thyroid or diabetes check her drinking of water
Hope the vet soon gets to the bottom of it and maddy is soon back to her raggie self
-
Oh hunnie I understand
Hopefully its just an age thing or a little bit of a dicky tummy.
What do the vets think is the next thing to do?
-
I assume they checked her gums, didn't she have bad teeth when you got her??????
-
Yes they did. She pretty much had all her teeth removed when I rescued her.
She does eat, but only little amounts and then she walks away. If I sit with her and encourage her she will continue to eat.
She also is drinking lots so I'm thinking thyroid/renal/diabetes.
I just hope it isn't neoplasia.
She also had a blocked anal gland which they cleared.
-
poor baby - I know how much they mean to you Philip, fingers crossed it gets sorted soon
-
I just hope it isn't neoplasia.
Don't think that hunnie, I know its hard not too.
If it helps my Vesti lost tons of weight but ate tons righ up until the end.
-
Hope she's ok  when will you get the results of the bloods?
-
How have things been throughout the day hun? Any word from the vets on the results?
-
I feel really low. I always do when one of my cats is ill.
Won't know the blood results till at least tomorrow.
Maddy has eaten a little royal canin recovery diet.
I can really see the weight loss on her now. Will have to make a decision on wether to syringe feed for a couple of days to help her get stronger.
She smells a bit where her anal glad was cleared. I wonder can a blocked anal gland make a cat go off their food ?
-
She smells a bit where her anal glad was cleared. I wonder can a blocked anal gland make a cat go off their food ?
I can affirm that it most certainly does. Blip has trouble with her anal glands and really goes off her food when they become blocked. All the best for beautiful Maddie
-
I would think something like a blocked anal gland could make a cat go off their food hun, if we had something blocked and infected we would be ill. Hopefully its something as simple as that sweetie
-
Thank you Christine. It would be wondeful news if things improved now its been cleared out. I wonder if it feels painful to Maddy.
-
Hope all is well with Maddy's blood results when you get them back, for now, and I know its hard, but try not to worry
-
Thank you Christine. It would be wondeful news if things improved now its been cleared out. I wonder if it feels painful to Maddy.
Again, having seen Blip's reaction to the clearance procedure and watched her afterwards, I have to say that it clearly does feel sore for a day or so :( My vet suggested increasing the fibre in Blip's diet to ease the load on her anal glands. I give Blip some Royal Canin Neutered Mature every day now as it's 6% fibre, along with some Nutrifyba.
-
Sending Maddie lots of good wishes
-
Get Well Vibes for Maddie
-
Sending healing vibes for Maddy, hope she is well soon~~~~~~~~
-
Fingers crossed for good blood test results today.
-
Yes have everything crossed hunnie x
-
Best of luck xx
-
I wonder can a blocked anal gland make a cat go off their food ?
It did with my friends Dog, he went off his food and was acting quiet ill.
He had the blocked glands expressed and was back to normal with-in a couple of days.
Fingers crossed for her and a big  for you xx
-
Just to wish you the best of luck with Maddy, Philip. Hope she is eating better soon, as she feels better. I know how anxious a time it is for you
-
Thanks guys. Means a lot.
Have syringe fed Maddy today which she has kept down. Managed to get a small bag of the new applaws dry food which my local pet shop now stocks. Maddy took a few mouthfulls of that before I syringe fed her.
Still awaiting blood test results.
So plan today is to try and get a good amount of food into Maddy to get her strength better.
She is sunning herself by the patio doors right now. At least she isn't trying to hide away which is a good sign.
-
 glad you have managed to get her to eat a little
-
any news yet Philip - glad she is eating
-
Some of the blood results are back.
Her kidney levels are slightly raised (urea and creatinine).
Also, her globulin and white cell counts are raised.
My vet feels this could indicate infection, but is a little worried about FIP.
I guess time will tell. In the mean time she going to have a course of antibiotics.
I hope and pray it isn't FIP. Her abdomen isn't swollen but she has lost her appetite and the weight loss.
She also has had a runny nose recently.
I only rescued her 3 years ago. I cant lose her yet. Please Maddy get better for daddy. :(
-
Love, huggles and healing vibes for the gorgeous Maddy - get better soon sweetheart xxx
-
Still sending those positive vibes your way x
-
Hope it isn't serious and she is on the mend
-
Philip, Toxoplasmosis gives a false reading similar to the Corona virus which then can mutate to FIP - we lost Gem to FIP and have her daughter Beijing who is a Corona carrier
get the vet to test for them again - none of the above are in house tests but done by outside labs
Goos luck and paws crossed here for Maddy
-
Lots of good wishes for Maddie
-
Really hope Maddy perks up now she's on the antibiotics
-
Sending lots of positive healing vibes for Maddy and hope she soon perks up
-
Sending lots of positive vibes for Maddy and  for you.
-
Fingers crossed it is just a simple infection
-
Loads of good wishes for Maddy xx
-
How is Maddy today?
-
Not much change. I'm syringe feeding her which she is keeping down. She doesn't seem any worse though. She will let me fuss her and she isn't hiding away which is a good sign. I'm letting her rest in between feeding. I don't know if she will eat on her own yet. My aim at the moment is to give her enough nutrition to help her try and get stronger.
-
I saw Maddy go and eat some dry food last night which was great. She seems a little better, but still think its too early to say its a definite.
I'm continuing what I'm doing and am saying lots of prayers.
:candle:
-
OMG I seen that candle and thought the worst, now have tears in my eyes :(
Come on Maddy you can do it girl, be strong and get through this
What is exactly wrong with her Phillip?
-
Don't know for sure yet.
Her blood results are indicative of some renal failure + infection somewhere.
One of my rescue raggies Delphi tested positive for coronovirus antibodies last year and so my vet is concerned about FIP because Maddys white cell count and globulin leves are both raised.
-
Sending chin rubs to you Maddy x
-
How high was her Creatnine Philip, as raised Urea without Creatnine can just indicate infection, so if her Creatnine isnt that high, it might all be an infection?
-

-
Sending good vibes for Maddy, and  for you.
-
Lots of get welll wishes to Maddy xx
-
How are you both this morning?
-
Topping up with more positive vibes
-
Lots of positive vibes coming your way for you and Maddy
-
Hi.
This morning before work, I found Maddy waiting outside my bedroom. She jumped up onto the cat tree and I could see in her eyes that she seemed better. She ran down the stairs following me and had a good fuss and did lots of chin rubs and head butts. Her fur feels softer again.
I don't want to say thats it because she still needs to gain 500 grams to return to her normal weight, but you can imagine the joy that I felt from the bottom of my heart. I hope things are on the up. I'm going to continue syringe feeding for the rest of the week. She is good as gold with syringe feeding.
She is such a lovely cat. So good natured. And absolutely beautiful. The reason I fell in love with the ragdoll breed (and now have 7!!!!). I have cried so much over the last few days.
Thank you for all the good wishes. I know Maddy would appreciate all the love thats shown here.
Now fingers crossed that things continue. For how long who knows. but every day is a blessing and should be cherished.
-
Our Raggie Minmin sends head rubs and purrs for Maddy alas I only have one raggie in the Clan but she is my joy and quite understand the addiction abit like ferals really!
Hope she continues to put the weight on and is being a special girl for her Daddy

Im so happy for you and Maddy and hope she continues to come on in leaps and bounds

Glad she is getting better
-
So glad she's perked up a bit, fingers crossed this continues
-
Glad she is better today hun x
-
Well Maddy is gaining weight again. She has put on 200g.
She's much livelier now.
Its really lovely to see.
Really hope this continues.
It was frightening to see how fast she deteriorated.
-
Yay great news :)
-
;D that's great!
-
Wonderful news :wow:
-

-
Excellent and nearly half way back with her weight too!
-
This is great news ;D
-
I'm very sad to update today that Maddy seems to have lost the weight she put on and is hiding away today. I just weighed her and she is 2.8kg.
I have made a vets appointment for 2:45pm. She seemed to be getting better.
I hope we can get to the bottom of what's going on.
-
Oh no poor Maddy. :(
Sending positive vibes for her and i do hope the vet can help this afternoon.
-
Hope everything goes okay at the vets for Maddy! :wish:
Good Luck!
-
I have just realised. She has become deaf all of a sudden.
She is meaowing really loudly today.
I have just clapped and screamed as loud as I can in front of her and she didnt move. Her ears didnt even twitch.
Now Im really freaked.
-
god how scary for you - hope you get on ok
-
Dawn I feel so scared right now.
She's so special to me.
This is really strange. Why the sudden hearing loss. I'm hoping she has an ear infection.
-
Sending you lots of good luck vibes for your visit this afternoon
-
Maddy is seriously ill. :(
It appears her renal function may have deteriorated rapidly and she is in a renal crisis.
She has had extensive bloodwork taken, a steroid injection and antibiotics. I have brought her home.
She has tolerated me giving her 100ml subcutaneous fluids. I now have to try and rehydrate her over the next 24 hours.
I really don't know right now if she's going to make it. This is happening so fast. Her kidney parameters were only slightly raised a month ago.
Maddy is only 9 this isn't fair. :(
-
oh Philip how awful for you - don't really know what to say that will help but hugs to you all
-
Oh Philip, I'm sorry Maddy's results aren't better.
Sending loads more positive vibes for both of you, she's a fighter
-
Sorry Philip
Hopefully the ABs will sort her out. As you know, Willow had a crisis a couple of weeks ago which they think was caused by an infection. Now the infection is cleared and she is on her fortekor & renal diet, she is running around like a loony - this is a cat that was collapsed with pee dribbling out of her a fortnight ago.
There's still hope for Maddy I'm sure
-
 poor girl, lots of positive vibes for dear Maddy
-
Love, huggles and healing vibes for gorgeous Maddy xxx and big  for you Philip.

-
Get better soon Maddy....hope all works out okay!
-
Sending lots of healing and positive vibes for Maddy and hugs for you
-
Hope the fluids help her Phillip
-
Blood results are back.
Her potassium is low so she is going on some potassium tablets.
Her kidney levels are higher than last month but not critical.
Her infection markers are still raised.
My vet feels that as Maddy did improve with the last lot of antibiotics that it could be pyelonephritis.
So she has had 200ml of subcutaneous fluid today. Will start potassium tablets and further antibiotics tomorrow as didn't have enough time to pick them up tonight as vet phoned with blood results 15 minutes before the surgery closed.
She looks really flat right now, but not like she has totally given up. I will continue to aggressively treat at this stage.
With regards to her hearing loss, Maddy isn't seeming to respond to noise stimuli at the moment :(
-
Big, big healing vibes for you both.
I too have a rehomed Raggie who I adore. Previously I have lost 2 cats to kidney disease so I totally feel for you.

Healing vibes for Maddy xxx
-

-
sorry to hear about Maddy, Philip. I wonder if it may be worth trying the potassium (+ iron and amino acids) liquid supplement Kaminox to up her potassium levels as well? It is given with a dropper and they don't seem to mind it and it seems to help.
all the very best with Maddy and her treatment
-
  hope she starts to improve now xx
-
Sending healing vibes for Maddy.
-
Hope the fluids sort her out!
-
Fingers crossed the meds work
-
Well I have gone and got Maddy's meds and started her on them.
Having a good day so far. Maddy went as far as to polish off a bowl of coley (which is the most she has eaten for ages).
She does seem a little better right now, but I know it's early days.
Keep going as planned I guess.
-
Philip just wanted to send hugs and good vibes your way. With everything I am going through with Purdey at the moment I can completely empathize. Good luck and hope Maddy shows improvement.
-
Just an update.
Maddy has been started on Fortekor and continues on the potassium tablets.
She has gained a little weight and her appetite is better.
She is still deaf, but my vet feels as this isn't life threatening that I shouldn't worry about it right now.
Maddy seems content and enjoys a good fuss. She isn't hiding anymore.
So at the moment things look ok.
Fingers crossed though. I don't know if things will deteriorate again. Its been twice in a month.
Please keep the healing vibes going peeps.
-
It all sounds good Philip and don't worry about the deaf as she'll probably not be too bothered by it. Lots of healing vibes coming your way
-
Sending lots of positive vibes for Maddy, so glad she is feeling better.
-
She is drinking lots out of the bathroom tap which is great as it's helping her get rehydrated.
-
Aw she is beautiful...so glad she has picked up! :Luv:
-
More healing vibes for her ,she is beautiful :Luv: :Luv:
-
Maddy had a visit to the vets for a check up today.
She is pleased with her progress and things look ok.
She is to continue on potassium and fortekor.
So things at the moment are good.
:loon: :yesss:
-
Wonderful news  :Luv2: ;D
-
Fab news! ;D
-
I just wanted to highlight the dangers of teeth problems.
When I rescued Maddy, she had terrible Teeth and nearly all of them have been removed.
My vet feels that it was the bad infection present in her mouth which is responsible for her renal failure as it is probable that the infection traveled to her kidneys causing damage.
So everyone please keep a regular eye on your felines teeth.
-
Good news about Maddy and a timely reminder about teeth - a similar caution applies to people too.
-
Here, Here!!!
