Title: Cats out for the first time on their own!
Post by: Catjane on March 29, 2009, 12:03:19 PM
It's such a nail-biter!  They have all become reasonably confident under supervision with short forays into the neighbourhood, but today I have let them go instead of hovering near the catflap and calling if they seem to stray too far!  I have no idea where any of them are at the moment ... I hate that!  I'm sure they're having a great time!  Me not.  Hopefully they'll all appear later and from then on I won't be so nervous!  Wish me luck!

Starting to get worried now :(  Shanti and Meesha have both returned, but there is absolutely no sign of Sabby, and I've tried calling him. I know I shouldn't be too anxious as Sabby often stays out for hours at a time, but I'm just worried because he doesn't know the neighbourhood that well.

Chances are that Sabby is only a garden or so away and has turned on the selective hearing that so many of our furbabes have!

At last!  I went out to look for Sabby, with no joy, but calling him all the same, and there he was in the hallway when I returned!  :wow: With a mouse.  A dead one. That explains that then, and Sabby has clearly settled in!  Sighs of relief all round, and now I can let them all out while I am at work with confidence!

Looks like it!  He seemed inordinately pleased with himself when I came in!

TBH, in the last place he was a prolific mouser, and whilst I abhor the process, I am glad to see that he is not going to miss the old place!

Entire mice I can cope with - they still have a "handle" by which I can pick them up   Its the anonymous (anon e mouse  :evillaugh:)  organs spread up the hall that Im not so thrilled by

Got used to the mice over the years (I live very rural!) but after I lost my darling Ferris last summer, I'm not so keen on my little Dorian strutting the neighbourhood, but what can you do? My street is kind of a dead end, hardly any traffic and lots of cats. But I feel so concerned :scared:

I never stop worrying about them!  But today ... SUCCESS!  I went to work with trepidation, leaving the catflap open for them.  When I returned I could see Shanti's little face looking at me from inside the catflap, just as she had been when I left in the morning!  And Meesh was already inside.  Predictably, Sabby wasn't in the house, so I went outside and called him just once, and he appeared from somewhere in the close, and hurtled towards me!  :wow:  I was surprised that he was in the 'people' area, rather than somewhere round the back in the playing field or in a garden.  I think he was probably hiding under a car as I didn't notice him when I drove into the close  :shify: Still, I was very, very pleased with them all for not causing me any stress!  :Luv2:

Letting cats out in new house:  Mission accomplished! :)
